book rec alert!!
short n' sweet, i gobbled this story up in a blink. if you've seen the 1987 film Hellraiser, this is the book it was based on, but the novella is so much better in my opinion. clive barker is a super interesting horror craftsman. even though it isn't cosmic horror in the lovecraftian sense, this is absolutely cosmic horror which i love!

#feel like i could write a thesis on how deeply interesting certain fanfic tropes are when it comes to the psychology of mankind#enemies to lovers?#someone said it before but it's the idea of someone still loving you when you view yourself as the least deserving version of yourself#vampires?#well vampires and their folklore are insanely interesting in their own right but#the idea of bonding with someone by literally consuming their life essence??#come on#a/b/o?#the idea that beings could be hardwired to dominate or submit and the social constructs that come with it?#and finally#my personal favorite#forced caretaking#the idea that someone would look out for you and your best interests no matter what#and the lore of a lot of forced caretaking fics i've read and loved tend to touch on the deep seated self-hatred that the submissive type#tend to have for themselves because they see themselves as weak for needing comfort#which inevitably leads to them neglecting their health and well-being#and someone(s) coming along and forcing them to get proper care and love and comfort#tear it up live
