And another thing I love about Wonder Woman is that it gently introdces some familiar tropes and the quickly shuts them dowm in favor of sincere and meaningful characterisation.
The four male supports are the prime examples:
1. First, you have Steve, the Het White Male and you’re thinking oh I bet he’s a dick, lets get ready for some mild seualisation if not actual sexism. But?? Steve Trevor is a Pure and Good Man who supports and respects Diana and is actualy relationship goals????
2. Then, you have Sameer, and at first you think, oh hell the North African Con Man trope, but it turns out he’s a talented linguist who dreams of being an actor. Beautiful
3. Next you have Charlie, the Alcoholic Scotsman. But it turns out he drinks because he is facing some pretty serious mental health issues, and all his friends support his recovery and care for his emotional wellbeing !!!
4. And then you have Chief, and you’re surprised becasue first of all this is a Native American Character played by a Native American. And then!! He isn’t the Medicine Man, or the Spiritual Guide but a man who had everything taken from him by white people and is just trying to make something for himself. Fucking pUre.

So I keep going on about this but what I love so much about Wonder Woman, about Diana, is that she is kind. She is so kind.
And yes, sure, Superman is kind, (at least most adaptations of Superman), but what gets me about Diana is the little things. Pretty much every person she runs in to, she wants to help them.
The small moments that got me in the movie were when she listened to people, really listened, and tried as best she could to help them.
When she has her super determined face on, ready to go to war and then stops because “Baby!” and runs over to hold the baby.
When she sees a man in agony her first instinct is to help, even when most people are running away.
When a poor woman who does not speak the language of anyone else around her latches on and begs her to help, Diana doesn’t tell her she has more important things to do. She breaks off her mission to save the few she can.
When Charlie is being hard on himself because he thinks he’s broken and useless from war flashbacks, Diana asks “who will sing for us?” She, who has valued the art of fighting all her life, does not belittle someone for being too scared, she gives them value regardless.
I love so many things about this movie, but the small moments of genuine care and kindness for people she doesn’t even know, especially in a time of war (real, terrifying, soul-scarring war) really get me.

Conversation
me: *takes a deep breath*
me: i love-
everyone i know: you love the wonder woman movie. you think it's one of the most culturally relevant cinema and that belongs in a museum. you've watched three times and you think about it 24/7 and can't get over how amazing and inspiring diana prince's character is. you want the theme to play at your funeral. you really enjoyed the reflection of how inherent good and evil exists within humanity and how relevant the message is to today. you love that the movie endorses love and positivity instead of darkness and evil. you want the no man's land scene projected onto your gravestone. the movie is your new sun and stars. we get it

Peggy Carter & Diana Prince In another universe, they would be best friends. They would share stories, talked about how they both had a “Steve” in their lives, and they would be kicking ass & changing the world.

netflix cancels two of their most diverse shows, the get down and sense8 (on the first day of pride month no less), but decided to keep a show where not only is their main character dead and all of the characters are shit but suicide is romanticized.

the more i look at the numbers, the more i am baffled …
as wonderful as the get down was, it cost $12 million an episode, and currently lies at #183 on imdb’s popularity scale (last week, #311). 16k people have rated it a solid 8.4. unfortunately, it got cancelled.
13 reasons why (are we even having to discuss this show), cost unkown, currently lies at #8 on the same scale (#1 last week). 97k people have given it an 8.6. it has been renewed.
riverdale, also cost unknown, currently lies at #7 on the same scale (#11 last week). only 23k people gave it a 7.9 rating and somehow, it got renewed (sources mainly point this towards the ending of pll and teen wolf among other things).
a series of unfortunate events? #238 this week, and #277 last week (cost unknown). only 25k people gave it an 8.0. guess what? not only did it get renewed for a second season, but it’s getting a third one too!
sense8, which cost $4.5 million an episode in s1 and $9 million an episode in s2, currently lies at #18 - last week, it was #10 (higher than riverdale and asoue). 88k people have given the show an 8.4. and somehow, it got cancelled?!
i completely understand that the show was sure to cost considerably more than what did get renewed, but i’m sharing some of these facts because i simply assumed people weren’t watching sense8 as much as they should have, like what happened with the get down - but nope. as expensive as it was, the show was massively popular.
so the question is, why, netflix? why?

cancelling sense8 was like destroying art. the show had the stories of:
i) a closeted hispanic gay man coming to terms with being outed and accepting himself as a gay man in the public eyes - doing all this just to ensure that he can continue being with the man of his dreams
ii) a compassionate kenyan man with a dream and hope fighting for the injustices of class disparity (he is also in a relationship with an extremely intelligent bisexual black woman who, despite coming from a different class than him, is attracted by the purity of his heart)
iii) an intelligent trans woman in a relationship with an equally intelligent black woman - the relationship of which is extremely trusting, tolerating, caring, gentle, and beautiful. (plus, the intelligent black woman grew up with three fathers and within an extremely open and accepting LGBT community who would protect the two even if it meant endangering themselves)
iv) an independent indian woman whose eager to find love over the simplicity of a good marriage. on top of that she has an indian father who defies the stereotypical indian man, who has her back no matter what, who is a CHEF rather than a businessman (this is a big fucking deal for us who knows about asian arches)
v) a south korean woman who is petite, adorable – and yet so very dangerous and courageous. who is a master in martial arts, whose storyline is dedicated on fighting the misogyny she faced all of her life. on top of that, her romantic storyline was going to be with a man who worships her for exactly who she is.
vi) there was going to be an epic interracial couple, the relationship of which shows how the right person can open up someone, can make their heart soft, can forgive all the sins that have been weighing them down
vii) it also discussed religion, art, sexuality, science, philosophy, among other topics; in such thought-provoking manner…
this show was an embodiment of art and its destruction is unforgivable…
