"The flames sawed in the wind and the embers paled and deepened and paled and deepened like the bloodbeat of some living thing eviscerate upon the ground before them and they watched the fire which does contain within it something of men themselves inasmuch as they are less without it and are divided from their origins and are exiles. For each fire is all fires, the first fire and the last ever to be."
Blood Meridian, Cormac McCarthy

life is so weird life is so weird!! a random combination of activities, reading a particular line while a bird chirps outside in a particular way, while a flute from a dungeon synth youtube video does a particular melody, while your drink has a particular taste when you let it sit on your tongue for a moment, this can unearth some primal memory, from your baby days, or from your scythian days, or from your ape days, or from your placozoan days, and it can fill you with wonder or romance or fear or those dazzling stars of incomprehensiblity but you just know you are definitely here on earth and youve been here a long time you have lived and lived and lived and you will live again...

"All progressions from a higher to a lower order are marked by ruins and mystery and a residue of nameless rage. So. Here are the dead fathers. Their spirit is entombed in the stone. It lies upon the land with the same weight and the same ubiquity. For whoever makes a shelter of reeds and hides has joined his spirit to the common destiny of creatures and he will subside back into the primal mud with scarcely a cry. But who builds in stone seeks to alter the structure of the universe and so it was with these masons however primitive their works may seem to us."
Blood Meridian, Cormac McCarthy

Tess of the d'Urbervilles is definitely one of the best novels I've ever read and I'm surprised I've never seen anyone talk about the pagan and kind of anti-christian themes in it, its really powerful...its a story that celebrates breaking out of the boxes imposed on you by tradition and religion, and mourns all those for whom the realization that escape IS possible came just too late...

So do flux and reflux - the rhythm of change - alternate and persist in everything under the sky.
