Its very much Utah about Nevada but I could also see it being the other way. I think Utah is very much the type of person to get carried away with things very easily, he gets himself into things without realizing what he's even doing and Vada has to come bail him out.

This song is about a soldier coming home to his lover, who tries to comfort him but doesn’t fully understand. That theme, plus the vibe of the lyrics makes me think of Gov’s relationship with Nevada. He tries to go to Nevada for comfort and to forget the things that haunt him, but in the process, hurts both of them.

Heard this one a lot as a kid before I learned that old country songs can be ironic and self aware. It used to piss me off so much cuz I took it seriously. Now I love it. It’s a great confidence booster and is just plain silly.

Both because I think they got married within about 6 months of knowing each other, (that had known of each other for longer but hadn’t officially met) & because Utah being one of the younger states when he announced he was getting married everyone was like “aren’t you barely 100 🤨 Gov is this legal?”

Why I Chose This Song:

To me, this is about the states reflecting on their existence and pledging to support each other in tough times. I picture this as advice given to the younger states by the older states (Your dreams will come true, fall through / Screw you, batter you to black and blue / Yeah, take it from me / It's how it'll be). The older states are more cynical, and so they warn the younger states that their immortality comes with a heavy price (Life’s gonna bring you glory / But there’s another side of the story) But, in the worst of times they can count on each other to help. (When your world cracks open / When your heart is broken / We will patch it up, we’ll work it out).
