how do you properly get out of a friendship? I stopped talking to a friend because I thought the friendship was toxic and right after she's been telling everyone that I stopped talking to her because of made-up reasons, been catching up with old friends to gossip too, and trying to get people (including my closest friends) on "her side" I ignore all this but it gets annoying when she's always around

i’m actually really bad with confrontation so when i had to cut ties with my best friend after years of friendship, it was extremely hard for me. but i think there comes a time when you just have to be a little selfish and put yourself first before anyone else. if you feel like someone is polluting your life, you need to go big or go home.

you did the right thing by taking yourself out of the picture with this so-called “friend” imo. and honestly, there isn’t much else you can do anymore. if she wants to continue being immature and spread false rumors about you, then let her. you just continue ignoring her. it’s kinda obvious she needs to prove her innocence by ganging up on you and depending on others to be on “her side” when you’re doing just fine on your own! it also seems to me like she’s pretty damn insecure if she’s dragging your circle of friends into this when the problem was clearly just between you two. let her be…. she’s not worth your time at all!!!
