read an article the other day about how the Buffy show has stood the test of time and the author said something like "Xander spent 7 years whining about being powerless compared to everyone else in the group but never even bothered to take a self-defense class" and that line will never leave my head
Willow and Tara didn't become witches by accident, they had to work at it. Giles spent countless hours studying texts and practicing with various weapons. Even Buffy, who was magically imbued with supernatural reflexes and strength, spent time training nearly everyday. The entire gang saved Xander's life repeatedly, often putting themselves in danger to do so, and he never even took a self-defense class
someone needs to explain to faith lehane that you can kiss a hundred boys in bars shoot another shot try to stop the feeling you can say it's just the way you are make another excuse another stupid reason but good luck babe!
Thinking about how Colm sees this terrified but vengeful child willing to take beating after beatings just to prove a point to others. Beatings that were ordered by Van Eck, his father.
Thinking about how if he was in on the plan, he couldn't do anything to help and had to wait. Or if he wasn't in on it had to watch this child be kidnapped from his grasp. Maybe it felt like loosing Aditi all over again.
Thinking about how after the auction, after Matthias's funeral where time seems to stop, how these children seemed so small inside this mansion. How a child was suppose to take over a whole business instead of—well being a child.
Thinking how Wylan learns he can talk to Colm without any fears of being ridiculed, how he can mess up, or even come to him for advice.
Maybe he asks Colm for help on tying a tie, or while visting to Noyi Zem, he asks him Jespers favorite meal, and if he could help preapre it for him.
Or even how Jesper is busy one day in the farm, and Wylan comes to Colm asking if he could review this document for him without a second thought.
Thinking about how Wylan finally has a father figure that doesn't care he can't read. Just that he's making Jesper laugh and smile for the first time in years again, and thats all Colm ever wanted.
am i the only one who doesn't really agree with the criticism that the crows are too young?? i understand where people are coming from but at the same time, i feel like that perspective is almost entirely based on a modern understanding of age. six of crows is meant to be set vaguely in the 17th century, and back then, the concept of a teenager did not really exist. pair that with the extensive trauma that the crows went through in a ruthless environment such as the barrel, and you get a character that was forced to become just as ruthless as their environment in order to survive, therefore making them seem older than they really are.
Anyone else unable to check if their wallet is still in their pocket as they're walking down the street without the smug voice of Kazzle Dazzle the Bastard of the Barrel in your head telling you you just told every pickpocket exactly where your wallet was, you utter fool? or are you normal
