a pleasant breeze brushed through the surrounding shrubs, cooling the guests and family members as they took their seats on either side of the walk leading to the gazebo. sweet strains of classical music drifted through the corwd and the lush setting. children eyed the empty playground off to the side in desperation, wanting to hover around instead of getting their ties and hair bows fixed every now and then by their mothers and aunts. the smell of freshly picked flowers filled the air and wedding bells rang through the site.

"how lovely," you turn to the voice next to you.

"pardon?" a confused look on your face.

"the weather," he averts his eyes with a sheepish smile.

"oh.. ah! you must be—"

"yup, exactly who you think. reo mikage, nice to meet you," you shake his hand that he pulled out for you, greeting him back.

"yeah, the only heir of mr. mikage, nice to meet you too. sure have heard a lot about you."

"well I hope it's all good stuff you've heard," you chuckle at that.

"isn't it obvious? I don't remember hearing anything remotely bad about you."

"hmm, as in?" he straightens up, still comfortable in his seat.

"well," you look around trying to keep the relay of thoughts going, "you're popular, a genius, good at any sport and a lot more stuff like that, oh and girls fawn over you," a teasing smile on your face. you've never spoken to a stranger you'd only heard about and never met in this way before, but you guessed it was his presence that made you feel at ease. though a little disappointed you didn't mention football, he drags along the conversation.

"mhm all that. but the interesting part is, I've heard about you too," he adds.

"me? am I popular then? well in that case, might as well be cautious of me stealing away your popularity title," you both share couple of giggles.

"well for someone who's taken your team to nationals since your first year, you sure are popular," reo asserted.

"woah are you a fan of mine or something?" he stares for a split second before responding.

"sort of," he shrugged. and there's a short period of silence before he speaks again. "is it lilac?"

"where?" your eyes already wandering to search for the lilacs he's talking about.

"your perfume," the question mark disappears from your face as he makes his point clear.

"oh, yes. I'm surprised you noticed."

"why? do I look that airy?" he snickers.

"can't tell," you never know if it's the tiniest details he notices in you, his tone of voice, or he himself that makes you feel a certain way about him. whatever it is, it can't be that bad right? you two just met. so you decided to see where it goes for now. "thank you, regardless."

"do you know what the flower lilac represents?"

"not particularly."

"magenta lilacs symbolize love and passion," he files.

"well then, it's your lucky day cuz mine are magenta ones." your lips curve just a tad bit unconsciously.

"oh how lucky of me!" he exclaims.

"your branded blazer suits you," you compliment.

"are you flirting with me?" being just as much of a tease as you, he grins.

"what? no! I'm just being nice."

"well your embroidered dress is pretty too, makes you look just as delightful."

"now are you flirting with me?"

"being just as nice!"

"playing it fair huh, not bad," you tilt your head, "ok ok enough chittering, shouldn't you be paying attention?" you remind him.

"where? to you or the wedding?"

"oh I can guarantee you I've got all your attention! of course the wedding, the bride's walking down the aisle." everybody turns back to see the bride elegantly reach the gazebo, the brightest smile with a hand in her father's for the moment.

the sensation of newlyweds, chimes of wedding bells, the chilly breeze exactly to your liking, and not only those, but also the supposed friend you've made, all contribute to a refreshingly happy environment.

"hey do you wanna play football with me sometime?" reo whispers.

"I don't see any reason to say no to playing football," you respond, whispering similarly.

"great, great. how about grabbing lunch afterwards?"

"but, how do I know you're not only leading me on?"

"you don't. that's part of the gamble," as funny as it sounds, giving it a shot sounds worth it. at least, to both of you.

"I'll take you up in that offer then."

"well in that case, I'll indeed need your number," as smooth as this was, you agree on giving it to him. he was easy to gain your trust.

"yeah fine it's 043.." and he's typing it in.

"043,"

"239.."

"239," repeating as he types to not get any digit incorrect.

"736."

"736. okay so here is, 042 239 763," it's not that he typed the number incorrectly; he heard and entered it just right, but he committed a deliberate error while on purpose. he's slick.

"Wait, it's not 763, it's 736," you correct him, and a smile appears on his face.

"well, you corrected me," he says squinting his eyes.

"sure did,"

"and how do I know if that's not a fake number?"

"you don't. that's just part of the gamble." at this point, it's all just obvious. anybody could tell from the looks you exchange or the demeanour you two are talking in.

"well that must mean—" cheers of joy break out from the crowd as the couple kiss, the bride and groom both make their way back shortly afterwards, "how wonderful," you comment.

"yeah wonder when we will be attending yours."

"wait- we?" he attempts to look away, embarrassed at blurting that out loud. a bouquet lands on your lap, causing you to flinch slightly. a flawless throw, or rather, something meant to be placed on yours. you both stared at it before looking up at each other, realizing what had happened: the bride just threw her bouquet and it had fallen in no other young lady's hands but your's.

"I do have somebody I like by the way," his cheeks burn up while he shyly scratches the back of his head. an identical one warming your's up too.

"me too."
