“Public libraries are such important, lovely places!” Yes but do you GO there. Do you STUDY there. Do you meet friends and get coffee there. Do you borrow the FREE, ZERO SUBSCRIPTION, ZERO TRACKING books, audiobooks, ebooks, and films. Have you checked out their events and schemes. Do you sign up for the low cost courses in ASL or knitting or programming or writing your CV that they probably run. Do you know they probably have myriad of schemes to help low income families. Do you hire their low cost rooms if you need them. Have you joined their social groups. Do you use the FREE COMPUTERS. Do you even know what your library is trying to offer you. Listen, the library shouldn’t just exist for you as a nice idea. That’s why more libraries shut every year

don't loose hope, there is love in life, there is community. people are coming together to protest all over the world, people are finding solidarity with each other even among the horror, people want to help. over the course of hours i saw hundreds come together from all over the world online to buy e-sim cards for the gaza reporters (they've succeeded in getting internet access to key online press reporters and are working to connect more), i've seen stories of people coming together in their grief and joy. despite the darkness there really is love. and i do believe that it is fundamental to the human condition.

one of the many reasons Fleabag is so heartbreaking and relatable is because no one ever chose her. Not her family. Not her lovers. Not her supposed “soulmate”. The one person that picked her died. She was no one’s choice or option, not even to herself. The way we can feel her loneliness through the screen is enough to make me collapse into a mess of tears on the ground and shake uncontrollably

the saddest sight in the world is a married couple at a musical and the wife is super excited and happy and the husband looks like he was dragged along and he’s making a big deal about how much he doesn’t want to be there and the wife gets embarrassed or ashamed. this isn’t a funny post, it’s actually heartbreaking and i see it happen at like every other musical i attend.

yo why do adults try to tell middle schoolers not to dye their hair or cut it weird or dress strange. Middle school is the most miserable time of anyone’s life, let them have fun and get a mohawk or something. They don’t have colleges to impress or a boss to worry about. They’re 12. Let them be less miserable with their blue hair and bad fashion (so long as it’s weather appropriate! I don’t want anyone wearing only a tshirt and jeans in winter!!!) It won’t kill you to let your kid exercise some control over their appearance that literally will not follow them their whole lives. Who cares if your kid wants to wear unprofessional clothes. They’re a kid, they don’t need to be professional.

I’m not child/adult psychologist but I have this weird theory about parents (indulge me here lol): a LOT of people have children because they only like babies and small children. They love a child who’s essentially a potato; easily handled, dressed up like an ornament, gets positive attention from those around them, cute and compliant etc. What they don’t like/plan for is for that child to grow a little older and start developing their own personalities and start resisting their parents.
When I was in high school I used to hang out with a friend who’s mother would ALWAYS bust out her baby pics and say “she was so sweet as a baby. I don’t know why she’s such a monster now. I don’t know where I went wrong”. My friend also told me that her mom lavished attention on her as a kid but as she got older, her mom withdrew and became more cold and angry when she’d resist things like putting on a dress or smiling etc (she saw the same thing with her younger siblings too. The older kids essentially left to fend for themselves/take care of the kids who’d “aged out” of cuteness). I think it also ties into when parents give their kids quirky names (ie: idk if you guys remember but a year or two ago a little girl went viral because her name was literally ABCDE -pronounced Ab-sidee), like they’re naming a cute little baby and not thinking about a middle aged adult who may have to apply for a job.
Idk to make a long story short: a LOT of people are enamoured with helplessness/cuteness of babies (as well as the attention babies get) but not so much with when that child grows up to become their own person. TL: DR: everyone wants a baby, nobody wants a teenager.

ADOPTION FUN FACT
If you’re adopted internationally into the United States, BY adoption LAWS you’re legally a citizen, but you still have to apply for documentation and if it’s not done by the age of 18 you have to pay over $500 and get a judge to reopen your adoption case.
Even More Fun Fact: No one actually tells adoptive families, this so many find out after they’re 18 when their kid needs to get a passport, wants to apply for financial aid, get certain jobs, vote or some other shit that requires proof of citizenship and now it’s too late because they’re 18 or over.
AND EVEN MORE FUN FACT! You can sometimes even be deported because you can be considered foreign-born, non-citizens!
Oh and they won’t accept adoption papers or a birth certificate as proof.
Adoption is FUN.
