some of my own YN theories
These are purely just my own opinions and theories on YN. Nothing official about this game ‘cept for the protaginist’s name, Madotsuki has ever been revealed.
1. Mado is a normal girl around 16 years of age 'til one day, she had a reoccuring dream that she was trapped in and couldn’t wake up from. Even when she does “wake up,” it’s a false alarm and she wakes up within another dream, which is why when she goes into the balcony, her apartment building is the only thing around. Her mind cannot fathom what is going on at first and compensates with NASU, as a way for comforting her. NO SHE ISN’T A MAN. NO SHE WASN’T RAPED BY PONIKO. Good God, what kind of drugs are you guys in the fandumb smoking?! please pass it this way… 2. I believe Mado possesses a very strong intuition and receptive to see and feel what the other NPC’s are feeling in their subconscious mind, which is why this is all happening to Mado in the first place. She was the chosen one to put all the pieces together with her explorations and fucked up scavenger hunt of effects, which serves as her only clues in the dream realm. The scenes embarked in the game doesn’t necessarily depict her own dreams, but the dreams of the other NPC’s such as Poniko/Uboa or Monoko events, for example. 3. At most, if not raped, maybe Mado has had some unpleasant experiences with molestation, but I’d like to think “outside of the box” with this one. The imagery of hands and eyes, though prevalent throughout the game could also signify insecurities within her life and her own paranoia or even physical abuse and deceit. As for Kyu Kyu Kun, he’s a phallic looking creature that rubs a banister could simply indicate Mado is just a growing girl with some uneasy curious thoughts like masturbation or sex, I mean she’s hormonal at that age. In my opinion, she is still a virgin and simply just curious, so no way in hell would I ever pair her with Masada (you pedos), like the rest of the fandumb. Sue me. It could just even be a coincidence, altogether with Kyu Kyu Kun. I have my own shipping for Masada. 4. I believe Masada (early 30’s to mid 30’s) is a complete loner and sees things in a very bleak, black and white way, this may be why the spaceship scenes are bland monochrome. He has sought hard after Poniko (mid to late 20’s) for a very long time and would watch her from afar and get a glimpse of her through the big spaceship window. He plays his piano, in hopes she can hear him from the spaceship, though he was never any good at it (this may explain the laser sounds when you talk to him). She never took notice until one day, he paid a visit to her and landed his ship in the cotton field. He finally gathered up the courage to profess his love to her. However, Poniko finds him absolutely repulsive with his lazy eye and ashamed of this, he turned off the light to hide it and when he switched it back on, he became Uboa form, which is how Poniko perceives him, but with a more grotesque form from his rage. (similiarities - Masada black and white with the googly eyes and Uboa also black and white has a lazy eye). Immediately regretful, he locks himself in a spaceship and travels to a different planet just to forget all about Poniko, but fails, saving his second seat for her hopeful appearance, which is collecting dust.. 5. Poniko, not so much a hikikomori, is content just living her quiet life in the pink cotton fields. When she’s not in her room and going for walks around the pink sea, she daydreams, and wishes to escape and float away like the balloons in this world. She’s always craved finding a true love that she can elope with, so the colors in her world are very vibrant and pink. As I mentioned above in #4, Uboa is how Poniko perceives Masada. And when Masada reveals himself to her, she did not condone his love for her because he was not of human nature, but alien and so I believe Masada kills Poniko drowning her in the pink sea. This is maybe why you don’t see Poniko around when Uboa appears because she actually was dead. The flicker of the lights on and off, indicates a life taken away by a blink of an eye. The Uboa scene you teleport to is Masada’s guilt represented by the murder of Poniko. A tragic love story, indeed, where Masada just wants Poniko to himself and Poniko wishes for something beyond her reach, but has her head too high in the clouds to realize she could have had a beautiful thing though they’re different. 6. I’ve always thought there was a bizarre love triangle with Monoe, Monoko, and Shitai. Monoe was always resentful and jealous of her twin sister, Monoko and Shitai being closer, so decides to push them both into traffic, only killing Shitai in the end, and brutally dementing Monoko, however she survives and anytime she begins to tell her story, she goes into a state of shock because the stoplight just reminds her of those traumatizing events. Whereas, Monoe just hides behind a cunning smile.. 7. Toriningens represent Mado’s will and determination to carry on, even when she feels “trapped.” I mean people have said it depicts girls that don’t accept her and blah blah blah, that could be so…but no way in hell was Mado transgender or a man. I’m sorry, you lose. I win. 8. When Mado actually comes to and realizes she’s been dreaming this whole time, she for the first time, lucid dreams and jumps off the balcony to end the dream, not her life and then she wakes up for real and becomes fucked for life from the imagery she has just experienced.
So there you go, had to make up my own theories because a lot of them out there are piss. I haven’t touched base on everything, but I’ll continue to add to the list when something comes up. I’m sure not everyone is going to agree with what I have to say, but let’s just say this: Kikiyama just made a fucked up game with no story whatsoever, it’s s'posed to just trip you out, so calm down peeps and just have fun with the game. Check out some of these other theories for laughs.
