The detective sighed. This wasn't gonna be easy, but by God wasn't she gonna do whatever she could to put Enji Todoroki behind bars. First thing first, she (they?) needed a plan of action.

"Next on the agenda would be examining the crime scene. I doubt there's much left of your body, but the smallest trace could be helpful. And I suspect the was some sort of cover-up involved. People like Endeavor always have someone to clean up after their messes." She wrinkled her nose, standing up from her seates position with a small grunt of pain.

"Next step will have to wait though. I can't use my Quirk for long without getting tired or my body suffering consequences, and I think I've just reached my daily quota." She dusted her coat off, running a hand through her hair as she looked around her to make sure no one was around "You might wanna stick around, I'll definitely need your help for this."

Rei let go of Touya's hand as soon as the flashback ended, violet eyes as wide as physically possible as she stared at the other spirit, her form flickering on and off for a moment before slipping back into her own body, gasping out as she 'woke up' where she'd left her body earlier.

"My fucking God..." she exhaled, pulling her knees up to her chest and hugging them as she collected herself, feeling the familiar fatigue of using her Quirk she always felt after reconnecting her spirit and body. 

"I've seen some pretty fucked-up shit in my line of work, but this... this is the worst I've ever seen, and I doubt I'll ever see something worse..."

She took a moment longer to recover, and when she looked back up to where she'd last seen Touya's spirit, her expression was contorted in barely-concealed anger, violet eyes steely.

"That... monster needs to be stopped!"

"I start seeing bits and pieces of someone's life the moment I touch them. It's like watching a movie, I see flashes of images and hear some dialogue or sounds associated to it. I'm already seeing some bits and pieces - you were one hell of a scrappy teen, bloody hell, and those tattoos..."

There was a chance Touya might see some of her own life as well -the day her father was incarcerated, the endless fights with her mother as a teen, herself as a delinquent, her current life as a cop- it tended to happen with particularly receptive spirits.

"You need to focus on the day you died for me too see it clearly though. Just a detail like the exact date or the events leading to it should be enough, my Quirk will do the rest."

"Makes sense. Best form of revenge for people like Endeavor." Rei sighed, cupping her chin in a thoughtful expression "Can't promise it'll be easy and it'll take some time, but it's entirely doable. And you've got my word that Endeavor won't die a hero."

There was a strange light in her eyes, a determined fire that betrayed her blank expression, her lips tight around the stick in her mouth "We've got a few options from there. I could investigate where the crime happened or read Endeavor's mind and see if I can find useful evidence. First thing first though..."

She extended her hand towards the spirit -Touya, she reminded herself; dead people deserved as much respect as living ones- "Part of my Quirk allows me to know someone's -or something's- history by touching them. Can't promise it'll be pleasant, reliving possibly painful memories, but it could give me a clearer picture about your death and see where to start from there..."

Rei's eyes widened just a fraction in surprise when the spirit introduced themselves. The name decidedly rang a bell. Retrieving a packet of cigarettes from her coat pocket, the detective put one between her lips without lighting it as she pondered.

"Oh yeah, I remember. Touya Todoroki. Someone with the same last name as you, a young lady in her twenties with glasses, filed a missing person report for you a few weeks ago. From what I heard, your father said you ran away from home, but she didn't really believe it. And frankly, neither did I. Turns out we were right after all..." 

She crossed her arms in front of her chest, expression turning into a frown as she chewed the end of her unlit cigarette "So, what do you need help with? Exposing that sorry excuse for a father and pro hero as the bloody murderer and liar he is, or exacting bloody revenge on him? I'm better suited to do the former, but I've dabbled into the latter a few times, when ensuring someone didn't get off scot-free wasn't always possible."

"It makes more sense in context." Was Rei's cryptic response as she gestured to the spirit to follow her. In her years as a detective with a secret Quirk, she'd specialized in the fine art of finding hiding places that were a) as close to the crime scene as possible and b) unlikely to be found by chance. As soon as she reached the closest one, she sat back against the wall and closed her eyes. As soon as she did, her body went limp, as if she'd fallen asleep.

When she opened her eyes again, her spirit floated a few inches off the ground, hands in her pockets and expression still flat, which barely changed when she finally saw the ghost she met earlier. "I've seen worse." She said simply with a half-shrug.

"Well then, now that we're finally face-to-face, name's Rei Yuu, homicide detective, at your service. How can I be of help?"

"I'm a homicide detective, I've seen my fair share of horribly maimed corpses and spirits who still bore the signs of said horrible deaths. I highly doubt I'd mind the sight."

With the flame gone, the temperature was back to normal, and Rei let go of the hems of her coat, moving one aside to show the police badge hooked to her right hip.

"Sure, I can try, that's my job after all. Perhaps we could go somewhere more private though? Not many are aware that I can hear spirits, and I'd like for it to stay this way."
