Open for our final Late Night Wednesday, September 15th! (Or Insanely Early Thursday morning)

After almost a year of serving the late-night community in FFXIV, we find that Life has come along and given us a few lemons. Schedules no longer allow us to host this event as much as we’d like to continue, so it’s with a heavy heart that the Stars’ Rest Inn will be closing its doors permanently after this week.  We’ve loved being part of the FFXIV community, all of our late-night friends and patrons have been a welcome boon to us and we hope that somewhere down the line we’ll be able to cross paths with all of you again.  Until then, safe travels and be well.

Obon is a traditional Eastern festival where families and community come together to visit, to remember, and to release their beloved ancestors. The Obon Odori is the festival dance performed in honor of the spirits as they are sent off on lighted lanterns down the One River. Join us on September 12th in the Doman Enclave. Enjoy local vendors and food. Step up and tell a story about your ancestors in the story garden. Build a lantern with the Aramitama Vault. Watch a segaki ritual be performed by the Sasori Shayou-Dera. Join in the Obon Dori led by miko Eiden Seitsurugi. And send off your lanterns down the One River led by a Suiren Shrine. 4. Baleful - FFXIV Write 2021

It doesn’t take much to change the mood of a moment. Perception and conviction are everything. Fashion is power.

It had been a cloudy and cooler than average day in the Mist. Zarah had taken the opportunity to spend most the day leisurely collecting herbs and specimens for her varied list of potions and elixirs. The thought of Kainen already being at home from Ishgard prompted a warm content smile from the miqo’te as she strolled down the stone walkway leading to the house.

Zarah bounced up the stairs and caught sight of Kainen standing near the moogle delivery box eyeing that day’s mail. She dropped her basket and instantly leaped towards him without warning as she so often did, and Kainen indeed caught her with his lightning quick perception and reflexes as he always did. With legs wrapped around his waist she settled into his arms for a loving and intoxicating welcome home kiss. She remained content in the moment and in the trust that he had never let her fall and it seemed he never would. He gently lowered her petite frame down to the ground and spoke softly against her cheek “I missed you...is that roses and lavender I smell?” A cheeky grin soon followed from Zarah “Mhmm! I dare not run out of your favorites...” She replied while leaning down to retrieve her basket. As her fingers curled around the wicker handle she saw it, the sin of the day, Kainen stood before her, wearing both socks and sandals, causing her to gasp in horror.

“Wh...WHAT?! What is this?!” She hissed “Is it not enough enough that our ankles must be covered in Ishgard?!” She finishes with a baleful glare “I’ll have you know that in Limsa! THAT fashion statement will get you keel hauled all the way to Old Sharlayan! From this point forward, I deem sandals and socks worn in unison a SIN.”

There it was the big “S” word hung over them with a heaviness and Kainen stared back at her, silent, unnaturally still like a stone statue, and with small beads of sweat forming on his brow – the poor fellow was terribly unfamiliar with many customs outside of Ishgard and now there were house fashion rules to learn. Her hands now rested with purpose on her hips as she readied to fight to free ankles from Ishgardian oppression and possibly elbows as well if the opportunity presented itself.

“I see. Can I wear socks at all?” He asked in all seriousness of the fiesty miqo’te, prompting a long awkward pause from her “Uhh...” her jade green eyes drift downward and she winces upon noticing that the sandals were also flip flops. By the Twelve may his big toes be freed from the atrocity before her, she thought. Zarah did her very best to soften her tone, she was terrible at admitting when she’d gone overboard “Limsa is a nation of free ankles unless one must wear boots. Let us not sin against her.” Kainen offers her a nod “Affirmative” he answers while leading her by her hand into the cottage. Zarah gives his rear a playful swat with her tail as the door slowly closes behind them “Oh can we burn those cursed one gil flip flops?”

3. Scale - FFXIV Write 2021

Three taps on Zarah’s office door caused her body to tense with anticipation at the meeting that was to take place. “Mally will you show our guest in, please? And only him...in fact do not take your eyes off of this one.” Zarah instructed the imposing roegadyn with a firmness in her tone. This was far from the worst information she had ever delivered from a vision or otherwise. It would all be fine she thought, while glancing to her staff leaning against the nearby wall. Luck does favor the prepared, was her immediate next thought.

Zarah and her rather gaunt elezen client exchanged pleasantries, the final payment was made and then onto the business of the evening. “I do apologize for the delay, but these things cannot be rushed, often a waiting game. I’ve your information here, in the form discussed.” She carefully holds up the parchment containing the detailed drawing of one of her latest visions. “Often ignorance is bliss...” Zarah says with a labored sigh before handing over the document to her client.

The color promptly began to drain from the elezen’s flesh as he examined the answer behind his perceived problems.

The drawing on the parchment depicted Zarah’s elezen client with skin that was a sickly shade of green, lacerations on both his neck and lips, while being embraced from behind by a rather strikingly beautiful woman – they each wore matching bonding rings. The woman bore waist length platinum blonde hair, her skin vibrant, and wore a dress of a noble to flatter her figure. However, her eyes were blackened out, just a hint of blood drips from her lips and chin, and long black horns followed the line of her hair. They stood on the backs of presumably peasants, while eagerly attempting to catch all manner of valuables in what appeared to be a fishing net with the bottom cut out. A small council stood around them in a circle, all gagged and hands bound with long platinum blonde hair of the woman. The backdrop of the drawing was ebon black with silhouettes of a few other voidsents lurking in hidden places.

Mally stepped behind Zarah as the elezen began to stutter, unable to comprehend all of what he was seeing in the symbolic drawing “Mm...mademoiselle...I do not understand? My wife an I are quite happy...I don’t...”

Zarah is quick to cut her unfortunate client off to clarify “Sir, on a scale of one to ten, you are at around a twenty when it comes to being screwed.” She points a red lacquered nail to the page while not yet showing much emotion “That is not your wife I am sorry to say, hasn’t been for some time. You’ve heard of voidsent I assume? Succubi? It will have to be dealt with...”

The color swiftly returns to the elezen’s complexion in the form of a deep crimson red and he crumples the page tossing it to the floor violently while stepping towards Zarah, enraged. Mally is quick to place a large firm hand on the man’s chest stopping him in his place, yet, Zarah remains unshaken. She reaches for her staff, narrows her jade greens on the understandably distraught man. “I am sorry for this unfortunate news, but I did warn you about asking for the truth from the shadows. If you do not secure someone to handle this problem, understand that the scale of your problems will increase a hundredfold, as I and a few others are now aware of the existence of the voidsent.” She then lifts her chin and taps her staff to the floor with gave tone in her voice “If you make another movement towards me or mine that I consider a threat, the scale of your problems will increase a thousandfold. I invite you to calculate your next actions carefully and calmly. I can be your ally or your enemy. Which way do you wish for the scale to tip, sir?”
