This pattern goes along with my 5 ways to use the star applique pattern. You follow the same pattern for the coaster, but use different yarn and add a few more rows to make a pillow. Here we go!

Materials

Bernat Blanket Brights Yarn – School Bus Yellow (180g, about ½ ball)

6.5 mm (K) hook

yarn needle

scissors

Polyfil fiber (about 130g)

Notes

Worked in joined rounds: you will (slip stitch, ch1) into the 1st sc of the round to join (the join counts as 1 stitch)

This is worked a lot like a granny square; you’ll be working into the chain spaces from the previous round

Stitch counts in ( )

Final size measures 13.5 inches across

Abbreviations (US terms)

Ch = chain

Sc = single crochet

Ch sp = chain space

Corner = sc2, ch1, sc2, ch1

Pattern

1-6. Make the first 6 rounds the same as the star coaster pattern.

7. [Corner in ch sp, (sc2, ch) in next ch sp, (sc, ch) in next 2 ch sp, (sc2, ch) in next] x 5, don’t make the last ch, join (80)

8. [Corner in ch sp, (sc, ch) in next 5 ch sp] x 5, don’t make the last ch, join (80)

9. [Corner in ch sp, (sc, ch) in next 6 ch sp] x 5, don’t make the last ch, join (90)

10. [Corner in ch sp, (sc, ch) in next 7 ch sp] x 5, don’t make the last ch, join (100)

11. [Corner in ch sp, (sc, ch) in next 8 ch sp] x 5, don’t make the last ch, join (110)

12. [Corner in ch sp, (sc, ch) in next 9 ch sp] x 5, don’t make the last ch, join (120)

This is where I stopped, but feel free to keep increasing in the same pattern for as many rounds as you’d like. My star was 13.5 inches wide at this point.

Fasten off and make a 2nd star without fastening off.

Put the 1st star underneath the 2nd with the right side facing out. Insert your hook into the next stitch and through both loops of the other star and make a sc.

Work sc through both layers all the way around, adding some stuffing before closing.

You can decide which side you like best as the front. On one side you can see the sc border and the other you can’t, I have a hard time deciding >_<

You can also add a face if you want! I embroidered these eyes with yarn, but you could also use felt.
