Do you think Kokichi could have the Ultimate Strategist talent, thus combining the Leadership with Analysis? It would also tie into his love for games I think. Or maybe the Ultimate Initiative or whoever wanted to give him a more 'serious' seeming title, but he somehow got Supreme Leader instead ( basically I think he had a say in his ''official" title, whether it was real or fictional, since he seems to lead just 10 pranksters?)I've been thinking about this would love to have your opinion:)

There are actually a few things I could say in regards to Kokichi’s “True Talent” or his “True Ultimate Title” that this ask has me wanting to talk about, so I might go off on a slight ramble if that’s okay with you!

Firstly, I’d like to start by saying that Kokichi’s real and official title is, indeed, the title he gives to us in the game.

if we apply the same rules of the game that apply to the other students to Kokichi, then it is practically confirmed that his official title is “Ultimate Supreme Leader.”

How do we know it is truly the title he is given?

The first clue is shown by Kokichi’s reaction towards Kaede questioning his title and organization.

Kokichi reads as offended by Kaede’s skepticism here, as if he takes quite a lot of pride in his title. He also gives her a lecture about common sense, and how her closed-minded nature is preventing her from thinking about what “common sense” actually is.

Kokichi has lectured Kaede before–when Kaede was pushing everyone too hard in the “Death Road of Despair” tunnels and losing sight on the well being of the class, he stops her by calling her out on her insensitivity and narrow-minded nature at the cost of making himself seem more antagonistic. Though while that scene is a great, shining example of Kokichi’s leadership skills, it’s not hard evidence for he title, so let’s get so some hard evidence.

The next hard evidence for Kokichi’s talent is his lab.

When Shuichi comes to visit this lab, it is introduced to us as the Lab for the Ultimate Supreme Leader. Shuichi, as he is searching the lab, finds that the lab is tailored to what he believes a child would imagine an “evil leader” to be like, which fits to Kokichi’s personality.

One might argue that this doesn’t prove anything, since Shuichi’s perspective could be skewed and unreliable. Which is fair–but a much more concrete piece of evidence is Kokichi’s motive video. Something that can’t be disputed, less it would make Kokichi an exception to the rule (which unless clarified by the narritive, is very unlikely and even makes no sense.)

Monokuma addresses him as “Ultimate Supreme Leader” in Kokichi’s motive video. As we learned in Case #2, Monokuma only uses everyone’s true identity and title rather than a made up one. (Case and point, Maki and how Ryoma actually blackmailed her about her talent) Kokichi is no exception to this rule–his official title is, without a doubt, the “Ultimate Supreme Leader.” Otherwise, Maki would have been addressed as “Ultimate Child Caregiver” and Ryoma wouldn’t have been able to blackmail her.

However, with that conclusion out of the way, I’d like to elaborate on one thing: just because that’s his official given title does not mean he cannot have other talents that are unnamed.

Kokichi is a natural born leader and hyper intelligent, with the likely-hood of having the Analysis ability that Junko and Izuru possessed though to a slightly lesser degree. With his skills at manipulating/leading others and that analysis ability, Kokichi probably earned his title through a combination of these traits rather than a singular trait alone. Analyzing and leadership leads to being a strategist by nature, but he isn’t given the “Ultimate Strategist” title.

A lot of this speculation actually has less to do with Kokichi’s talents (as we’ve basically pointed out his skills and talents hands down) and is more about how the Ultimate Initiative handles giving out titles. Unfortunately, we have no idea how that works (to my knowledge) so it could very well be that Kokichi demanded his title be “Ultimate Supreme Leader” but his actual talent being a Strategist, or a Leader, or something else related to his actual talents.

In conclusion, Kokichi’s “Real Talent” is the fact that he is a natural born leader, good at working around many different kinds of personalities, and excellent analytical skills. As long as his title reflects these talents and skills, he could really be an “Ultimate” of any related skill of your choosing, with his preference being “Ultimate Supreme Leader.” So in short, yes, he very much could be the “Ultimate Strategist” in talent but is the “Ultimate Supreme Leader” in title.

Kokichi Ouma Character Analysis: Chapter 4 and Grey Morality

So a quick disclaimer: Yes, I am very aware that this is most likely not canon, or at least not what the writers intended on being canon, nor am I saying that this is 100% canon and should be considered as such. This is just a fan theory/analysis I came up with for my own enjoyment and wanted to share with others, as I like coming up with theories/analysis posts and reworking canons to make enhanced stories and character development in my perspective. I firmly believe that the idea of making theories isn’t supposed to be a shouting contest to see which opinion is the most loud and correct, but should be something to share with others and find acceptance and understanding in different interpretations, even if you don’t agree with them.

I want the disclaimer here to be taken extra-seriously as I know for a fact that this topic within itself is one hell of a problem when it comes to Kokichi’s character. This incident and series of events is what makes or breaks Kokichi’s character for a lot of people. People who see Kokichi’s character as nothing but up to no good be warned; this post is not for you.

However, the said can be said for those who think Kokichi can do no wrong. I may call Kokichi a “precious cinnamon roll” but in reality, the scale of his sins during Chapter 4 is impossible to ignore, especially when it’s such a huge deal that it carries over into the rest of the story of the game. There’s a lot of divide over whether or not Kokichi is a pure saint or pure evil, when in actuality, human beings are far more complicated than black or white, good or evil, and that’s sort of the beauty hidden within this case. Morality is crushed to the ground and stomped on until it’s borderline unrecognizable.

So without further adieu, let’s begin the analysis, and talk about Kokichi’s fall from grace and into a despair so miserable that it ripped him apart.

Kokichi Ouma Character Mini Analysis: Food Items (And Why He Might Actually Not Be Able to Taste Food)

So something that immediately caught my eye when making this list was the food items Kokichi enjoyed, and how my mind immediately jumped to this bit of dialogue from the Salmon mode dates with Kokichi:

It’s an interesting line of dialogue that pops up, seemingly out of nowhere or coming from a tangent, and immediately Kokichi backpedals into the idea that this is a lie.

However… he never outright says it’s a lie at all, actually. We assume it’s a lie because he follows it up with “I like sweets and spicy food!” but both of those kinds of foods might have another element that makes them enjoyable without him being able to taste them.

After doing a lot of research, a lot of taste-related disorders are actually smell-related disorders, and finding birth defects where just the sense of taste is affected is… strangely difficult. So the most likely candidate is that Kokichi was born with very very dull taste buds, no taste buds at all, or has a hard wire problem where he has taste buds, but his brain doesn’t receive input from them. Either way, it’s still possible that he was born with this inability to taste food.

It is important to note that Kokichi never implies his sense of smell is compromised, and has made remarks on scents before, so it’s best to assume that his sense of smell is fine.

However, as per research goes, a lot of people who have this (or a similar) issue with the inability to taste food is through textures and temperature.

Spicy foods are a prime candidate to make food enjoyable without being able to taste anything, because the heat you feel from spicy food has nothing to do with your taste buds. The sensation is caused by a chemical compound called capsaicin, which is an irritant for mammals. It’s actually designed to deter animals from eating the plans that produce them, but we humans sure are dumb and eat it anyway. Anyway–because of the fact that capsaicin is causing a chemical reaction to create the sensation of “spicy” rather than it being directly related to the taste buds, Kokichi can definitely feel the heat.

Sweets is a bit more difficult to determine exactly why he would enjoy them as someone who can’t taste food–but it is possible he could simply enjoy the textures of various sweets. Chewy caramel, smooth hard candy, melting chocolate–sweets have a lot of potential textures that he probably finds enjoyable.

I’m pretty convinced after looking at the food items he enjoys that he’s not lying here–that he can’t taste food, and the food he likes mirrors his words.

The Boba tea has chewy tapioca pearls. The Non-Alcoholic Drink of Immortality does not taste good according to the item description but says it will make the drinker immortal. Bubble Gum Bomb makes explosive sounds when blown and popped. Rock Hard Ice Cream and the Fully-Automated Shaved Ice Machine both include cold elements. Sukiyaki Caramel (Caramels have fun textures as they are) is apparently made with really strong, clashing flavors hat don’t mix well. Gyoza In the Shape of a Face has a thick skin and is tough. And finally, the Astro Cake is freeze dried, meaning it’s not your typical cake–it’s crunchy and hard.

In conclusion, I actually do genuinely believe that Kokichi can’t taste food, which is why most of his liked food items feature a temperature or texture element. The only one that stands out is the Immortality drink, but if you couldn’t taste how bad it was anyway, who wouldn’t love getting a drink that might or might not give you immortality?

Kokichi’s favorite drink–anything carbonated–also makes sense if you think about it. While the fandom likes to joke around and say his favorite drink of all time is grape soda, his profile specifically states he likes carbonated drinks. Nothing specific. He would probably enjoy the bubbles and carbonation if he was unable to taste the drink normally.

Anyway, that concludes this mini analysis! Take it as you please, but I’m pretty convinced Kokichi actually can’t taste food.

SO A QUICK DISCLAIMER: Yes, I am very aware that this is most likely not canon, or at least not what the writers intended on being canon, nor am I saying that this is 100% canon and should be considered as such. This is just a fan theory/analysis I came up with for my own enjoyment and wanted to share with others, as I like coming up with theories/analysis posts and reworking canons to make enhanced stories and character development in my perspective. I this post, I want to talk about the fact that Kokichi is a compulsive liar and the psychology behind compulsive lying, the neglect he faces during the killing game, and then the creation of his villain persona.

Would you mind explaining why you see Ouma as "definitely, undeniably confirmed gay"? The only evidence I know of is him saying he "likes" Saihara after he leaves the VR world, but that's in the context of strangling people to keep their eyes on him, which may be a dark joke about Miu's death. Additionally, I've been told the word he uses could also mean "interested in/fascinated with" as well as "like". Could you clarify? Thank you!

Ouma is confirmed gay because his line about Saihara is pretty undeniably romantically inclined, regardless of context. It’s also completely unskippable in the plot. Unlike bonus mode content such as the RPG or love hotel scenes, or even FTEs which are also optional, Ouma’s interest in Saihara comes up canonically in Chapter 4 no matter what the player does.

It’s also something he says on screen without anyone else around, even Saihara himself. Without any other characters around to listen in, there was no point of the scene other than to illuminate the fact that Ouma was clearly interested in Saihara beyond the point of just “casual” or “friendly” interest.

I’ve seen multiple anti saiouma users say that what they hate the most about the ship, is that their fanbase acts as if Kokichi Ouma’s feelings for Shuichi Saihara are canon.

So I want to clarify something to everyone, we don’t “act” as if Kokichi’s feelings are canon, because they are.

There is a scene in chapter 4 that I’m surprised not many people remember.

Kokichi here refers to Shuichi as “Suki ni Natta Hito” (Direct translation: The man I fell in love with, it is always used in a romantic context) in an unskippable cutscene. They don’t even remove his words in the English version of the game either, though they don’t use the exact words he’s said.

I can’t explain it any better than this amazing user so click here to check out their post for more explanation on this point.

Not to mention all the other hints such as seeing Shuichi as himself in his fantasy, a lot of people say that the love hotel scenes shouldn’t be taken seriously. And while I do agree to an extent I believe that their existence shouldn’t be brushed aside because they sometimes point out stuff about characters (Miu having abandonment issues, Rantaro being protective, etc.)

Huge proof of the importance of Kokichi’s scene is how he says he loves Shuichi and is always thinking about him in chapter 3 then says it’s a lie so Shuichi thinks that’s impossible and he’s just messing with him like he does to others. But then in the fantasy, Shuichi stays a detective, stays as literally himself, and he’s told by Kokichi that he loves him and to not worry because he’s always thinking about him. The same words he’s said outside of the fantasy.

In the fantasy he also says “play with me let’s do a lot more together” which honestly felt like a reference to how they’ve been playing games and spending time together in his free time events.

I’ve seen people say that in salmon team there are no hints that Kokichi still likes Shuichi in that way, but honestly I have no idea what they’re talking about when the dude says stuff such as “Maybe you and I were lovers in a past life.”

Kokichi’s ending in that mode has him asking Shuichi to stay by his side to know the real him, he really wants Shuichi to know him and understand him.

Sure, Kokichi likes to mess with people to get a reaction out of them, but his “messing” with Shuichi is sometimes not a lie. Proof of that is his harmonious heart event. Where he considered to stop lying to be closer to Shuichi. Even if it was just a thought, for someone like Kokichi to want to change himself for Shuichi is a pretty huge deal.

And you just can’t ignore his free time events, because in them Shuichi learns that he has to do nothing to win a game sometimes and that’s exactly what he does in chapter 6 to end danganronpa.

Kokichi’s free time events are really important, and they say a lot about him (Example: How he thinks the most important people to him, DICE, actually hate him and would be happy without him). In the end of those fte’s he is so happy that Shuichi was worried about him and says “I stole Saihara-chan’s heart so I don’t need to steal his life anymore.” (direct translation from the Japanese version of the game)

This isn’t the first time danganronpa has had a character with canon feelings, so I have no idea why there are people who act as if Kokichi’s feelings are impossible. And it’s worse when they claim to be fans of Kokichi, yet deny this huge part of his character. The fact that even he fell in love with someone when he knows he shouldn’t have, and wanted to trust in Shuichi and for Shuichi to trust in him.

TLDR; Kokichi Ouma is canonically interested in Shuichi Saihara romantically, and there are multiple hints in the game of it. Seeing his ideal as Shuichi, blatantly flirting with him, calling him his favorite, asking him to leave everyone and work with him, saying he was the guy he fell in love with, having Shuichi on the whiteboard as (Trustworthy?), and even leaving a letter directing Shuichi to a hint to help him end danganronpa.

I have so many strong feelings about Kokichi’s treatment in V3 but this covers everything from that particular scene.

To be honest, Kokichi’s mistreatment throughout the entire game is just the result of Kodaka making him the narrative scapegoat. So much of the inconsistent writing comes from the characters neglecting Kokichi for no god damn reason, and Maki being treated like the narrative princess who Can Do No Wrong.

Whichi is hilarious, considering how the major conflict with Maki just so happens to be from Kokichi and the narrative’s favorite is antagonized by the narrative’s most hated.

And by hilarious, I mean stupidly obvious that Kodaka saw Maki as the next precious Waifu™ and Kokichi was too smart for the plot so naturally if u make ur narrative favor Maki whilst presenting Kokichi as an antagonist to her, it’s a two birds with one stone deal. Players who don’t hyper analyze the plot love Maki and hate Kokichi and don’t question anything he does because once they do question, they see just how fragile the structure of the narrative actually is and the whole story just falls flat on it’s face.
