Day 4
Fast day!
Well, that is I had a smoothie in the morning, then a coffee then a soup.
By dinnertime I was extremely famished, I went to Waitrose and I thought I am going to collapse there. So I had a packet of root vegetable crisp and when I got home I had a bit of a potato salad plus yoghurt with granola and fruit. Then I had some dark chocolate (Lindt dark choc) which is not super full of sugar.
But the problem is, once I start having chocolate, I start craving it. Which is not ideal at all. I was quite chilled about it in the past few days.
Still I am making a good progress. Next week I will be ready to have more exercise! :)

Day 3
Felt leaner again this morning and more energetic, however, that energy levels slightly dropped around lunchtime since I didn’t get a very good night’s sleep, partly because I had to deal with a pastoral situation at church. And I was very worried for this lady who tried to commit suicide.
Anyway, I had the same shake for brekkie I had the previous day added a bit of pea protein as well. Then I had Mac and cheese for lunch and an apple, and about 5 easy peelers for an afternoon snack (oh, goodness gracious) On a positive note, I am fasting tomorrow.
Then made a veggie chilli with quinoa in the evening which was lovely (chickpeas instead of beans) And no dessert. Glory
Fast day tomorrow.

Day 2
Ok, so there was the second day. I didn’t have any added sugar or chocolate today and I was quite ok without it, really! Although I had a lot of carbs for dinner, which is probably not the best thing but I was starving and hopefully can balance it out on the days I am fasting.
Most and foremost, I felt leaner in the morning which is a great start! In the past few days I started feeling first thing in the morning when I woke up that I had put on weight. Not any more! I will feel healthy and lean from now on!
I went to the wonderful V and A museum in the morning, had a smoothie bowl beforehand as I intended (banana, strawberries, raspberries, milk, yoghurt, almond milk, chia seed, peanut butter) Then I had a latte.
For lunch, I had this from Pret: Sweet potato, falafel and smashed beets veggie box (turmeric and sweet potato falafel, pomegranate seeds, edamame beans, avocado, broccoli and beetroot hummus – all nestled on a bed of brown rice and red quinoa. Drown it with a pot of zingy green dressing.) It was so delicious - would like to prepare it myself.
For dinner, I had a ricotta and spinach cannelloni at a restaurant which was lovely but probably a bit too heavy after eating super light food for almost two days. But I don’t regret it because I was starving. Then I went to the Spear celebration in the evening and had a glass of prosecco.
I know it’s not exceptional and super clean but I would like to set realistic goals and introduce small changes instead of saying that I will live on sauteed kale for the rest of my life. I also would like to enjoy my life more, incl food of course. I think limiting sugar regular fasting is a good first step. Especially for someone who’s comfort food is anything sugary plus surrounded by loads of sugar everywhere.
I managed to resist the temptation of having the brownies at home, cake for staff lunch and more cake in the evening. It is getting easier and easier.
I feel I am also learning about holistic change - how our mind, body and soul are connected. It is a beautiful exploration.

Power of the Tongue
“Before you speak, ask yourself: is it kind, is it necessary, is it true, does it improve on the silence?”
“Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit.”“The poison of vipers is on their lips.” Romans 3:13
“From the fruit of their mouth a person’s stomach is filled; with the harvest of their lips, they are satisfied. The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Proverbs 18:20-21

Day 1
At the age of 32, I have discovered that I cannot postpone a change of lifestyle any longer. My body is slowly but surely changing and I also need to get ready for this crazy experience, called motherhood. I would like to live long in a healthy, muscular and lean body to carry out and finish what I meant to do.
So, today, following the example of my highly esteemed husband, who fasts twice a week, I tried fasting again. It was super helpful, especially because we are after a weekend of lots of food. We visited some friends in Leicester and had endless amounts of Indian food and brownies. But, anyway back to reality and to a Monday morning, I decided to start my health journey today with a fast! The perfect way to kick this thing of - surely I will appreciate ANY kind of food after this ;)
I decided that I go gradually and although I would like to come out of sugar, I wouldn’t like to cut all types of sugar - so having dairies and fruit at the moment. I started off with a lovely double latte at my favourite local coffee shop and I couldn’t even feel hungry until early afternoon. (I guess the food was still working in my body from the day before) I also equipped myself with two bags of lovely vanilla chai, a piece of ginger and lemon. They did prove useful especially to curb my hunger and provide some flavours - oh, and so distinguished ones! Ginger gives a lovely kick that wakes up your whole body. Oh, and cinnamon - makes any dull day bright. So I did very well at and didn't have any solid food and was very proud of myself. Although there were moments, of course when I felt dizzy and couldn’t really concentrate on work. But it didn’t last very long and I said to myself that my health is paramount - even if it comes with a sense of temporary discomfort.
So when I came home, I did a very light yoga for 20 minutes - probably it didn't do much more than to warm up my muscles a little and then a tiny bit of dancing while listening to some baroque music - it was like heaven. And then came the part which I am not sure it was a very good decision (my hubby approved it though) but I had a lovely strawberry smoothie. Yes, it was glorious. I put around 5 raspberries, 5 strawberries, a whole banana, a greek yoghurt, some almond milk and a tablespoon (ouch) of peanut butter. It was the highlight of my day! The lack of solid food makes your taste buds so alive and sensitive. Such a refreshing strawberry taste complimented by nutty flavours.
And my greatest achievement today is that I resisted the wonderful brownies and the GU millionaire cheesecakes in the fridge. Well done, Szabina. The first day is done. 99 to go. Looking forward, I need to resist the dessert prepared for the lunchtime staff meeting. I would like to have the same smoothie for brekkie with some protein, chia seeds and oats and then make that tasty potato salad for lunch. :)
