CCI assignment 1 part 1
Have you ever watched a movie or video without audio? The feeling is very different with sound. The visual however is different. It is scary no matter the audio. In fact, the sound makes the visuals scarier.
When it is late at night and there is a horror movie showing on T.V, I would watch it. However, I would turn the volume so low that i can barely hear it. I would not feel as scared.
On the other hand, when I watch a horror movie at the cinema, the volume is loud! This makes the movie even scarier with sound effects blasting into your ears.
Thus, I feel that the best way to represent these 2 senses are through a video or a movie.

CCI assignment 1 part 1
I am going to do sense of sight and hearing. It is because out of my 5 senses, this two are the ones that I do not want to lose the most. I am not saying that the 3 other senses are not important, but I think it would be hard for me to live without my sense of sight and hearing.
The reasons would be that for sense of sight, I think it would be very scary with only darkness in my world. I would be afraid that I would bump into things. Ultimately, it is the fear of not knowing what is in front of you. As for sense of hearing, the reason is simple. I love music very much and I feel that it would be devastating for me to not listen to music anymore.
Also, from my research, a person called Leslie conducted a survey to find out which sense they would choose to keep between their sense of sight and hearing. There were different answers and reasons for choosing that sense. He found out that for people who are visual learners, the loss of sense of sight would be devastating as it is used more and is more helpful in the active world of communication as opposed to audition while those that were involved with music whether it be through playing music or listening to music seemed to feel that their world would be completely lost without having the ability to continue to involve music in their everyday lifestyle. He also found that the reasons for choosing one sense over the other were very widespread ranging from better aid loss of the loss of one sense over the other to different perceptions of importance for each of the two senses.
His webpage can be found here.

Q1. Comparing the 2, what are the benefits and drawbacks of each technique.
www.yolk.com.sg
Benefits-It is easy to get around the site with just the tap of the arrow buttons. It arouses curiosity in me, like i will anticipate what is on the next page.
Drawbacks-It gets boring quickly and there isn't much pages to view.
dontclick.it
Benefits-It is easy to understand the motive of this site and the way they design the site is really simple and fun.
Drawbacks-People may subconsciously click on the site and since it is a habit, it is not easy to resist the temptation to click.
Q2. Which is the easiest? Why?
For me, dontclick.it is the easiest to use as I understand clearly that I do not have to click on anything. The information on the site is also easy to understand and they even provide a quick game which I tink is a good start to stop people from clicking on the site.
Q3. Which is the hardest to use? Why?
I think the hardest to use will be www.yolk.com.sg as I did not quite understand the motive of this site and it was not fun and not as engaging as dontclick.it.
Q4. What is the affordance, feedback and constraints of these works?
www.yolk.com.sg
Affordance: Using the arrow buttons is a very direct way of letting people know that for example, when you press the 'right' arrow, the page will change to the page on the right side.
Feedback: I do not understand the site. It is a bit too messy and there are a lot of distractions like the sounds and the movements on the page.
Constraints: There are limited pages and I very often reach dead ends of the site and have to turn back to the previous page.
dontclick.it
Affordance: The name of the website already tells us not to click and just simply using the movement of the cursor to navigate the page is very creative and easy to use.
Feedback: not being able to click makes people a bit uncomfortable as it is a habit.
Constraints: not being able to click

i have been thinking of another manifesto. It's originality. Hope it's not common again. As i said, i have been thinking a lot. I believe this is my manifesto all the while. It's just that it had been on my sub-conscious mind all the while that i felt it was already like... i don't know how to explain >.< It was like already a part of me.
As a designer, i believe originality is very important. Because by being original, the idea that you thought of is yours and nobody can take that away from you. As one of the lecturers said, if you tell someone something, they may misinterpret you. While you are talking, they will try to visualise what you are trying to tell them and if you ask them to draw out what they visualized, you will find out that it is different from yours. Thus, i believe that originality is very important.
I am going to research more on originality.

I thought and thought, what is my manifesto? What exactly do i believe in as a designer?
My 1st idea was 'don't be afraid'. However, it was too common. My idea was to not be afraid of showing off my work, to be proud of it so as to be able to convince others that my design is the best, because I know that i have always been afraid of presentations and consultations. I guess it's because that I know that my classmates are better than me, they always come up with good ideas and designs. And i'm feeling a little inferior. Also, i have never been good at expressing myself through talking.
I do not want to feel this way, so i am trying my best and trying to make this my manifesto. This manifesto is currently under progress and I am not that afraid of presentations anymore. :)
Feedback from lecturer was that it was too common. I have to think of the consequences and effects of not being afraid. It's difficult.

9 Jan 2011 Sunday
Here I am, reading all the information from the reference drive. There are many things that I do not understand. But I am trying to read them slowly in hope of understanding it better. I know I can start researching by google-ing ‘manifesto’, but I know that when I copy the whole chunk in, I still will not understand. Thus, whatever I understand from the Internet, I will try and put it in my own words. It will be a challenge but I will do my best!
These are things that I understand and may find useful for my manifesto.
- Every project should start will a question.
- Always have a defined question to drive your work.
- Always cite your source to bring integrity and credibility to your work.
- Human beings love stories and storytelling is one of the most successful and powerful ways to learn, discover and disseminate information.
- Your project should be able to convey a message and easily encapsulate a compelling narrative.
- Must be relevant so people can understand.
o Translate information into knowledge.
o Don’t make it complicated.
After reading the First Things First (FtF) Manifesto this week, what are your own thoughts in your beliefs as a designer?
After reading first things first, I understand that those group of people are desperate for the change of making designers see the that they are here for a greater cause, not just to design and advertise for a product that is inessential. Quoting a part of the manifesto, ‘Designers who devote their efforts primarily to advertising, marketing and brand development are supporting, and implicitly endorsing, a mental environment so saturated with commercial messages that it is changing the very way citizen-consumers speak, think, feel, respond and interact.’ And ‘We propose a reversal of priorities in favour of more useful, lasting and democratic forms of communication – a mind shift away from product marketing and toward the exploration and production of a new kind of meaning.’
Because designers use their imagination and efforts in designing daily products, that is how the world perceives design. So we must change that way of thinking.
I think that this manifesto is very useful and I feel that it is correct,
What are the kind of guidelines you will set for yourself to be a good designer?
A designer must have a creative mind, be open to comments and suggestions, plan well, and always look for more things to improve in your design,

LEMON
Yes, lemon can bleach dark spots because of the acid in it. If it can be used to stop apples, avocados from turning brown once cut and it can also be used on your hair once a week to make it shine then eventually lemon juice will lighten the skin.
Lemons are very rich in vitamin C and many other valuable nutrients and these constituents give lemons a unique position in beauty applications. Because of their versatility, they have been used since ancient times for beauty products. Other benefits of lemons: Its clean aroma helps to uplift our spirit and calm the nerves.
HONEY
Honey is not only good for our body if it is consumed as a food but it is very beneficial if you use it as a skin care product. Honey not only works for caring for everyday skin conditions, it is also used as a treatment for various skin problem
Due to its qualities honey is widely used in different skin care products. It is used as a skin care product since century. Not only that, honey is known as natural humectant which means it has an ability to attract moisture and hold it
HONEY IS A TIME-HONORED TREAT for both skin and hair. "It's one of the oldest moisturizers in the world," says Roslyn Griner, vice president for the bath and body division of Coty Beauty U.S., which recently launched a line of honey-based organic skin-care products under its Healing Garden label. Honey's unique texture holds the key to many of its benefits. "Because it's so thick, it's occlusive and locks moisture in," explains Day. It's also a great exfoliator.
EGG WHITE
While egg whites alone have no real long-term benefits, they do narrow your pores and can be used as a base mixture to create excellent face masks. There's also the cleansing and acne fighting qualities that some people swear by.
Another aspect to consider is the amount of unnatural substances you really want on your skin. If you can choose a more natural and mild product like egg white, it's healthy for your body, better for the planet (less packaging waste), and can be made at home for a fraction of what professional treatments cost.
MILK
"Milk and honey are terrific in skin care because they're soothing and nourishing for the skin," explains Doris J. Day, M.D., a dermatologist in New York City and author of Forget the Face-Lift. Both milk and honey have natural properties that help alleviate redness and calm irritated skin; both are hydrating; and both provide gentle, skin-renewing exfoliation.
MILK CONTAINS LACTIC ACID, a gentle exfoliant, and is a good source of vitamins A and D, which nourish the complexion. Whole milk is such a powerful soother for dry, itchy skin that it can be used to take the sting out of minor bums and rashes. "Milk proteins [aka whey] are usually much more concentrated than even milk itself, making products with whey proteins very effective," says Day. Look for "lactic acid," "milk proteins," or "whey" on the label to make sure you get the good stuff.
YOGHURT
Yogurt is a delicious food that's great for topping cereals at breakfast, stirred with fruit or frozen for a creamy snack. But yogurt also has a number of medicinal properties, helping to restore healthy bacteria after a round of antibiotics, healing and preventing fungal and bacterial infections and more. As if that weren't enough, yogurt is also a great ingredient in skin care.
With loads of zinc and lactic acid, yogurt will help to close pores, prevent acne, exfoliate dead skin cells, moisturize the skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines. They are completely natural and will not harm your skin in any way.
Yogurt is a wonderful ingredient in a number of skin care products. The live active cultures are an effective ingredient for your diet as well. This live bacteria is an essential ingredient for good health. It may have the same effect for skin care. Coupled with other ingredients it can be a powerful tool for good healthy skin.
Lactic acid is an alpha-hydroxy acid, and yogurt is so mild that even highly sensitive skin can use it. Refreshing and exfoliating, yogurt will even out skin tone, fade freckles over time, and generally leave your skin soft and smooth.

we are thinking of how to get people's attention.. it must be something that they will be interested in... so, we have thought about beauty! This is something that our target audience (females) will definitely be interested in.
we are going to create an easy and affordable recipe for whitening skin. The ingredients have to be common and easily accessible. so, im going to do some research.. :)

DMS 2 rumour
ok... we have to spread a positive rumour, and the key point is to make people believe it.
so far, we have thought of a few questions.
1. Do you believe that girls can multitask while boys cannot?
2. Do you believe that girls can endure more pain than boys?
3. Do you believe that wearing contact lens and going near the BBQ pit will melt your lens?
i asked a few of my friends and most of them agreed. however, we feel that these questions are not good enough. we are thinking of more rumours now...

coming to an end...
We are coming to the end of our DMS Assignment 2...
To summarize all that we have done,
Our stand is, 'Identity consists of both virtual and reality'
In the virtual world, when you use your virtual identity to converse with people, they can only judge you from the way you "speak" and your avatar, perhaps.. And when you speak to your friends online (e.g Facebook), you will tend to write like how you would talk to your friend in real life. Thus, when you are using your virtual identity, it will somehow contain a part of your true identity.

sense of accomplishment
On Thursday, 23 July, Raine, Ju Ting, Xiong Wei, Vivien and I met up in school to research on our project 'Identity'. We did a lot of research on identity crisis and then presented our ideas to Mr. Andrew. However, our stand was not very firm and strong. Also, we could not really express ourselves well. We went home feeling confused about our ideas.
On Friday, 24 July, we stayed back in school and decided to change our keywords. Then, we finally found what we strongly believe in. We felt confident about it. When we presented our idea to Mr. Andrew once again, he seemed pleased about our idea. We felt a sense of accomplishment as we have finally made our point clear.
On Saturday, 25 July, we went to Xiong Wei's house to make our video. We manage to finish our video and had fun too.

I feel that it is not possible to draw a clear line between virtual and real identity as even though people are using their virtual identity, there is a trace of their real self.
Personally, i feel that i am not a game addict as i will lose interest in the game after playing for a while. Gradually, i will stop playing the game and if i spot another game that gains my interest, the same thing will happen ( Be it maple story or Facebook games ).
I know that people will get very involved in games especially when they start to use real money to buy "cash" in the game. With that "cash", people will be able to buy more special items in the game.
An example is Facebook. I am currently playing 'baking life' and basically i have to level up to gain access to more recipes. I also have to decorate my bakery with chairs, tables, wallpaper, tiles and more. Some of these items have to be bought using Facebook credits, which can be bought using real money.
