Editing
After Effects experimentation is going well, and I find myself using light effects heavily, in conjunction with distorting images to match the nature of the music. I have also been working on incorporating the link between femininity and flowers, and creating an image with the future in mind.

Filming
Tumblr media Tumblr media
FIlming for the project went well, I am enthusiastic about the editing prospects and the clips I have to work with. I used my GH5 for the filming, which I only got recently, so it was also a lesson in driving it which I really enjoyed.
Most of the day I spent using the tripod, though I got some handheld frames. the breadth of wardrobe was limited, though it is not a major element of my intended outcome, and the film is not being made based off of a collection like many fashion films are. I am continuing with the original concept, in response to the Futurists manifesto, though I know the primary focus is creating exciting and engaging visuals through After Effects, which I want to experiment heavily with.

Sound and visual update
I have been formulating the soundtrack and am happy with how it is coming so far. I have been developing a bass track and pairing it with heaving use of distorted synths. I was influenced by glitch works, and the correlation between 80′s undergound synth works and fashion culture.
I think the challenging part will be coordinating the visuals to the sound.

Futurism?
I know that I want to create a fashion film for this project, inspired by the works of Nick Knight and his once-apprentice Ruth Hogben;

I am now formulating the conceptual reasoning behind the visuals and sound. In class, we discussed certain manifestos and the Futurists Manifesto (and Furturism as a concept) stuck out to me, not entirely for good reasons. I have been thinking about the misogynistic nature of the manifesto and am thinking about subverting the message to address an aggressive feminine energy in the future of the 21st Century. I am particularly intrigued by the first rule of the manifesto (1973) “We intend to sing the love of danger, the habit of energy and fearlessness,” and how that could be interpreted visually in relation to a femininity. ‘The beauty of speed,’ especially conjures a strong visual in my mind that could be translated into a fashion film, a medium I have been exploring for a while. I think this genre, a focused form of art film, has boundless potential and I am impassioned by the prospect of creating one with heavy use of After Effects to achieve the visual I can see.
I know that I simultaneously want to create a soundtrack that heavily uses synths and elements of glitch, as I think it will create the relevant atmosphere.
