Research Report
Research_02
These are all the sources I plan to look at as I continue researching. There is a list of books, articles, and interviews for each research topic, and well as a watch list of relevant films for a primary visual analysis.

Research Report
Draft_02
As of submission, this is the status of my research report proposal. I made changes from the feedback I received from the first draft, but then as I have only just changed my ideas for the third chapter (changing the overall direction of the whole thing) it is unfortunately still unfinished. Without the research I struggled to develop the background.
I’ve also included a very loose timeline of the rest of the project next year. When we learn more about third year I will likely changed this into a detailed Gantt chart.

Research Report Proposal
Research_01
Before changing one of my main ideas (of looking at horror for adults vs. for children), this is the research I had done. I started of by reading through texts and then copying down quotes that may come in helpful. As the project progresses, I planned to write my thoughts on each piece of information. I can still use some of the sources here, but most are now unnecessary.

Research Report Proposal
Draft_01
These are the original ideas I had for the proposal that I sent for some feedback. As I didn't know if I was on the right track I hadn't yet written a background or made a timeline. After having a tutorial with another tutor I have since changed my mind about a few of the chapters as I realised they didn't interest me enough and have been done may times before.

Collaboration
Storyboard_Group
These are the storyboards from each member (one is still missing). I thought that someone was going to compile them so that they were in the same order as the script but there was a miscommunication and I have run out of time to it myself. If we could have had meetings in person I suggested that we work out the best order and imagery and then draw one as a whole.

Script_WriteUp
Like with a previous script writing project, I thought it might be interesting to write up the script in a professional way. I don’t know how nonfiction scripts vary from fiction ones, so even if this isn't correct it does make it clearer to see how each section is broken up, so is a nice thing to have.

Script_Final
Here is the final script I wrote, agreed upon by the entire team. It starts off unsure, and then talks about the negatives. But when revealed that the negative feelings aren't necessarily a bad thing, the quotes start to become more positive. There is a theme of creating new worlds that the creator want to see; for their present selves, younger selves, and others. It ends looking towards the future, finishing with another unsure note that has a slight comedic effect to the ending. Overall it feels like a lighthearted conversation, with should create a down to earth yet inspiring feeling in the audience when watching the animated documentary.

Collaboration
Script_Drafts
This is where I started putting together all the quotes I selected. Each is highlighted in a colour to represent a different speaker/ animator. The first version is just a compilation, with each person’s words kept together. This makes it easier to storyboard and animate each part as it in one scene, however it results in a disjointed story. The second draft splits up these parts for a more interesting story where each quote links off another so they work together better. It may be harder to work with as some parts of animation are only a few seconds long, but overall I think it would be much more successful as a complete nonfiction animation. The final draft is a revision of the split version. It shortens some parts as the aim was around ten seconds each, and some were over triple that. If the animator is willing then this revision isn’t necessary, but I was trying to create equal opportunities for each person’s work to be seen and remembered.

Collaboration
Script_Transcripts
So that our documentary would have a more appealing narrative arc, I decided to collate our team’s audio transcripts and pick out all the useable parts. Putting them together then clearly showed how long each animator’s segment would be, and the overall length. The general idea was to start off with the slightly more negative feelings, and gradually become more positive, with snappy beginning and ending quotes.

DeliveryPack_1080x1080
So after a few miniscule timing changes to even all four animations out, they have been compiled into a delivery pack (I’m unsure as to if a title card needed to be included).
[There is also a 1920x1080 version for submission.]

Keyframe Poses
I thought I’d include some screenshots of each animation’s keyframes (first row = jump, second = squat, third = stretch, and fourth = lunge). For after effects I feel I should have exaggerated them further, but when I experimented with that it was too difficult to maintain a seamless or realistic animation. Because of the asset’s style, the clenched positions are undefined and unappealing, but are necessary for the movement. There isn’t a huge amount of range, but then again there is only so much you can do with a hand before breaking it...

AnimatedLoop_Lunge_Test_02
The lunge animation has been edited the most. I removed the second lunge that went in the opposite direction. It was difficult to make out the rotation of the hand, and the fingers bending back didn’t make much sense. I then struggled to flip the movement equally to the first lunge. With the plug in software Limber I think it was possible to do this quickly, but as I can’t access it at home, so this feature was unavailable. To save time and stress, I simply removed the movement and focused on the fine details of the first lunge. With one movement it is also more equal to the other three animations. I also made one leg static for a more realistic look, and removed some secondary action so that the lunge appeared to have greater, sustained force. It feels the least polished of all my animations, but is an exercise worth including.

AnimatedLoop_Squat_Test_02
This is the last test for the squat animation. As I used this as a base for the jump loop, they have very similar poses. But I decided to include this one as it shows a different weight and a more sustained movement so counts as a different exercise. The feedback was to change the leg’s stance so that it looks like they are prepared to exercise rather than just standing there (and quicken the pace as always).

AnimatedLoop_Stretch_Test_02
The feedback for all of my animations was to make then faster, so this stretch only needed a few tweaks to finish. Individually it feels the right pace, but when looped it seems faster (but I don’t think there is anything wrong with that).

AnimatedLoop_Jump_Test_03
This is the final test for the jumping animation. I basically started again with the keyframe timing and I think I’ve managed to produce a realistic speed whilst maintaining the individual finger movement timings to create a tiny follow through effect. The legs still a little wrong but after so much experimentation with the plug in software I decided this was the best I could make it.

AnimatedLoop_Jump_Test_02
After some feedback I’ve changed all of the timings trying to make the animation snappier. However I feel that it removes all the fine tuning I had done for each individual finger. So I may slow it down a little again to try and show of the complex keyframing. I also changed the landing position of the feet to anticipate the landing more realistically, but it could still be improved.
