Hand-In: Rationale
When making this assignment I had many ups and downs, firstly I couldn't figure out how to use after effects so it made me very stressed to the point of giving up on it and not starting the project until week 3, I started to make a stop motion using cut out printed pieces of my typeface and I started to make it and I realized I hated the idea of a stop motion video so I decided to make the animation on after effects and learn even though I was scared I wouldn't be able to learn as well as everyone else since I'm not very technical smart and I'm happy I did, I'm happy this journey took so long for me to figure out what I wanted to do and how I wanted to do it because I have always been a very indecisive person when it comes to my work at uni I can never decide what I want to do with anything down to the color. This project helped me push myself with creativity and ideas when I thought I had nothing left to give to the work. The reason I decided to keep the same color and typeface throughout the book for the animation was partly due to me wanting it to flow together and be paired together and I also genuinely thought that typeface suited the message I wanted to send, it's very soft, bold and 'loving'. The reason I put picture frames falling with the credits was that I wanted it to be a kind of showing of the love I'm surrounded by as an ending credit I thought it was a beautiful idea and it reminded me of a memorial video where when you're watching the photos of a loved one and all the memories they made in the world and it makes you kind of sad but happy. The reason I chose to showcase the typeface very strongly and use an in-and-out motion for all the type was to make it smooth and give it a clean look so it wasn't so blocky, I knew I didn't want to use the opacity tool due to me thinking it didn't match the love theme because I didn't want the 'love' to fade I wanted it to pass by. - Lula Zaloum DESN15/06

RATIONALE booklet hand in
In this assignment, I had to examine my Pepeha and the textures in objects and the living things around me and choose a font that I felt best suited my home Beach Haven, Auckland. I used 'Milka Soft' for my heading font and 'New Order' for my body font. I was influenced to choose this font by the way I perceive beach haven as a whole and not based on how the other parts of Auckland would generally perceive it.
When designing this publication I wanted to show the beautiful parts of Beach Haven despite the reputation of violence and gangs. Milka Softs personality, boldness, Grid work and modern style attracted me. When looking at beach haven over the years, the architecture has changed so much as new buildings have been built in the area and new businesses have opened. Despite that, one of the things that have stayed the
same is the vibe of the area, community and the font family ‘Milka’ represents that
aspect the best. Milka Soft feels like home, it reminds me of the artwork I find around my childhood home. I decided to go with one color to make it simpler and more cohesive, When finding inspiration for this color I based it off the greenery around me and the water I see every morning when making breakfast so I went with a light olive
green color. green color. If I were to go back and redo this assignment I would plan out more pages to give myself more variety and inspiration. But in the end, I'm very proud of everything I ended up choosing for my publication and I have learnt my strong point in Art Design is Grids and typography posters/publications and I will be continuing to pursue this art form in my future designs.
