Vague idea of a situation where after he finds out tim is Robin, Bernard uses his popularity as a little unhinged BatBlog with his conspiracy theories to post progressively sillier conspiracies that are actually true (like Bruce Wayne is Batman) but explained in the most batshit(hah) insane way (Bruce Wayne is Batman because they both have the same awe within gotham populous because he uses a magic amulet to make sure the public don't turn against him or something like that). So eventually people get laughed out of any room for suggesting it. Penguin tries and someone from the crowd calls out ,"Yeah we've all seen the post !" Causing a bunch of snickers.

When Nightwing tells Justice League members that Batman makes him laugh, obviously, everyone knows that he's joking, because that's Batman. How the hell does That make anybody laugh?

But then really weird things start to happen. Like suddenly, Batman starts making little quips that toe the line between sarcasm and puns. He begins to humor the stupid ideas that other heroes come up with purely for comedic purposes. He even admits things like "Jesus, I'm getting so old, if I hurt my back much more, spin class is going to be an issue."

And the thing is, Batman only does these things when Nightwing is around, and it literally always earns a laugh from the younger hero. Sometimes they high-five after Nightwing recovers from a fit of giggles. At this point, nobody knows that they're father and son, so this type of behavior is just really freaking people out.

I did not expect that. I figured since they brought back Blockbuster, most of Nightwing 1996 was now defunct.

What else is still canon???

Is everything still canon but Blockbuster somehow managed to escape? Or like, the events still played as normal except replace Blockbuster with some other generic villain who did all the same things?

Was Dick still a police officer in this canon? Did he work in that cop bar? Has he already met Amy? Did Tarantula happen?

Like I’m sure they’re just never gonna acknowledge it at this point, but now that I see we’re willing to bend some logic for the sake of preserving former canon, I now choose to presume all of NW 1996 as canon until explicitly stated otherwise. Bite me.

You know… I don’t think Bruce went in planning to raise Dick. I really don’t. I think becoming Dick’s legal guardian was an impulsive, emotional decision from a man who doesn’t allow himself many of those (even as a young man), and he figured he would give the kid a home and maybe a brotherly role model. Like an extreme Big Brother Big Sister program.

I think he thought Alfred would swoop in and take over, because clearly taking care of traumatized children is what Alfred does, and also, Alfred was the adult. Like, Bruce was legally an adult, sure, but Alfred was a Grown Up. So Alfred would take care of the parenting, and Bruce would, like, take the kid to ballgames and stuff.

I’m just imagining the first time the issue of house rules or discipline came up, and Bruce looked to Alfred, and Alfred was like, “Go for it, champ” and just walked off, leaving Bruce with the knee-knocking realization that he was responsible for a Living Human Child.

I feel like one aspect of Dick’s character that is sorely underrated is how fucking done he is with everything. He’s over it.

Dan Watters’ Nightwing run definitely plays it up, but Dick in the Ram V Detective Comics run is also just… so unimpressed.

Like, his quipping is supposed to be funny, but it isn’t only the wacky-cheesy-corny puns that he’s usually depicted to do. It’s not even primarily that.

Most of his humor is “you’re lame and bore me L plus ratio���.

One of my favorite classic Batcat moments and a perfect example of Bruce’s autistic flirting is Bruce having Selina throw on a blindfold to take her to his cave and check out the cat shaped stalagmite he’d been hyperfixating on. Peak.
