5 years since this chapter?! Unreal. Missing all the guys and girls down at 9-1-1, except Oliver. Currently ghosting him so I can’t tag him. He’s asked to hang out like 50 times, like take a hint. Big love to each and every one of them, always. 👨🏻🚒

Angela Bassett Says 9-1-1 Feels Like ‘Art Imitating Life' and Shares How It Influences Her Approach to Health (Exclusive)
Additionally, starring as Police Sergeant Athena Grant on 9-1-1 encouraged Bassett to think more about health-related issues. “In playing this character, a lot of the stories that are coming up, it’s like art imitating life. Sometimes I joke and say, 'Do you have a camera in my home? You know, are you peering into my life?'" There’s a few similarities here and there.” While calling it a “great joy” to play such a “powerful” character, Bassett admits that the show has taught her that “there’s power in prevention” when it comes to health. “It became apparent to me that it’s the key,” she adds. Portraying a first responder on screen has also helped her realize the importance of acting fast.

Exclusive first look at how 9-1-1 season 9 honors Peter Krause's Bobby Nash: 'It just felt right'
Bobby's death was something Minear and team had been secretly planning for months ahead of last May's shocking development. "The decision about who to do it to, that was the hard one. But I just felt like, 'If I'm going to do this, I need to do it in such a way that it will have the maximum effect for every character story.' And so it's Bobby, right? I mean, that's going to affect everybody," Minear told EW at the time. "It also made sense for me in terms of it not being an arbitrary death. In a way, it is the tragic, logical culmination of his arc. He came to L.A. with a death wish, and then he learned to love life again. And then when he finally has to make the sacrifice, it's not because he wants to go, it's because it's the thing he has to do. It is true redemption. So everything about it lined up." Not that it was any easier for fans — or the cast.

Angela Bassett, 67, Dishes on Her Sources of Inspiration, Her Marriage and the Wisdom of Aging
WW: You’ve been in over 100 episodes of ‘9-1-1’ since the show started in 2018. What is it like developing a character on this type of series? AB: It keeps me on my feet. Television is a writer’s medium, and it’s not like I know the end, whereas when you read the script for a play or film, you can see where the end is. In this television game it goes on and on, and sometimes I’m going down this road like, “Oh, we made a turn! Oh, I don’t have a husband anymore!”—and that happened after I just told someone I could never see us parting! It’s exciting, and the new storylines surprise me. I didn’t become an actress to do the same thing every day.
