An ember in the ashes needs to get more popular because I know you motherfuckers would love Helene Aquilla. Complex female character of all time

exactly like can we please highlight some good smaller authors instead of these same overrated and overhyped authors and their books, like I've read a lot of their books and there's so much better out there it's crazy
Books/Authors I am SICK of as a bookseller
Sarah J Mass ESPECIALLY the ACOTAR series. we have an entire shelf that is JUST that orange paperback and I hate trying to put them on the shelf and the craze has died down but we KEEP GETTING MORE
Colleen Hoover has 2 full shelves which is a FEAT considering how small those books are. the covers are also kinda lame for someone so popular and what I've read is mid
Diary of A Wimpy Kid....I'm worried about the author, is he good???
Vinland Saga the manga. large books, I have seen maybe 3 people buy them and yet they take up a whole shelf...some have been there for years I'm pretty sure...please leave
any series with different authors for each book because how do i shelve this????? how will anyone find this???? vv confusing
most of the politics section. disgusting, i hate politics, especially when I'm just trying to vibe and do my job
James Patterson owns a bookcase in like 3 sections and it's just...exhausting. impossible to help someone find something
Those bigass Beserk books because they're heavy, threaten to break my shelves or my back
Old covers of YA series like Graceling, the original covers, I hate
Cassandra Clare has giant books that all look alike in the same world but different series and it gets confusing
I'm not calling any of these books/authors bad, I haven't read most of them but as someone who stocks the shelves, I take issue with them for different reasons

Bride by Ali Hazelwood review
2.5/5
Spice: explicit open door
Trigger warnings: can't really think of any so but I would def check online if you have any triggers
First of all the main characters name is Misery, just sit with that for a minute... like every time they'd have a serious conversation and someone would say "misery, this" or "misery, that" I was just so annoyed because what is that ridiculous name.
Second of all there's literally no plot and it's def not enemies to lovers if that's what you were expecting. Like they never hated each other and were downright pleasant to each other from the start.
There's also barely any plot, like genuinely nothing really happens and there's barely any mystery solving even though her only friend in the world is missing, like in the start and before the events of the book she seemed invested but throughout the whole book absolutely not.
Lastly these people have been feuding for years and it was just ended so easily, like what? Like even in the werewolf kingdom Misery barely deals with any issues and is just in his inner circle. Along with that the whole conflict between the groups barely shows up or plays any role in this book.

THIS, so this
call me a book elitist or a prude or whatever but if you’re going to act like you’re superior just because your porn addiction manifests itself into the form of a poorly written book that is targeted to a young female audience and glorifies extreme abuse and other not so fun topics because it’s “dark romance” that’s presented with the intention of sexually liberating young women, whilst simultaneously belittling them and insulting their intelligence as an audience by making sexual content become the bare minimum to the point it is alarming and infuriating to you when a book doesn’t have twelve hundred pages of just what is, essentially, abuse and hardcore bdsm to the point it is life threatening than there is no value in reading it, than i am quite content with leaving my life behind to live underground where i don’t have to listen to that shit and actually recover some lost brain cells

I feel like booktok really just promotes books that are already popular but very overrated and lowkey bad books. For example Sarah j mass (who I will probably make so many posts complain about) is so popular on there for writing terrible low effort books. So many of her books are filled with bad writing like a court of wings and ruin literally has the word mate around 200 times.
along with that books like haunting Adeline and other dark romance books which again I know people have preferences but these books aren't even good for what they are and it annoys me so much because there are so many smaller authors actually writing great books but they get overshadowed by theses awful low effort books and then new authors have to make their books more like these because publishers want more books like what's popular.
i love reading but hate booktok

does anyone else keep reading books by the same author. like I'm constantly reading Ilona Andrews and have been going through all her book series for like the past 2 years!!
btw I highly recommend her if you enjoy urban fantasy/fantasy, banter, book boyfriends, and amazing female main characters!!
