I got bored and wanted to write a one shot for one of my favorite crackships so uh,,, I hope you enjoy! (Also, this takes place in a Metias survives AU)

Metias’ POV:

Men

In the past few months all they’ve done is bring trouble. Well, one specific man.

Now, this is ironic coming from a man who likes men but it’s true. You catch feelings, get attached, and get a knife in your heart. In my case, it could’ve been quite literally.

Basically what I’m getting at is catching feelings for a man is a terrible decision. Yet, here I am, helping the patriots with a problem in the Elector’s security system at two o’clock in the morning while thinking about one of them.

Kaede told me his name is Pascao. He’s tall, taller than me with bright green eyes. His hair is short and curly, a shade of brown just slightly darker than his skin tone. Since I’ve gotten here he’s acted as if we’re not planning on assasinating a political leader. Joking around, giving everyone nicknames. Gotta admit, it’s been nice having someone there to distract us from the impending doom we could be facing.

As if on cue, while finishing up, I swear I can feel someone breathing down my neck.

“What ya doing?”, The voice asks. I turn around and realize that it’s Pascao.

“Oh um, security camera stuff...”, I mentally facepalm myself for such an awkward response, but to be fair I was not ready for human interaction at this hour.

“Wow, seems like a lot of fun.”

“Very.”, I reply in a monotone, when I catch a glimpse of what he’s holding. A plate of chocolate chip cookies and two mugs of what seems to be tea.

He notices me looking at them and sets them down on the table I’m working at. “Yeah, insomnia’s a bitch so I made some cookies and thought you could use a snack break.” He sits on the bed right next to my desk and sips a drink from his tea.

“Oh, that’s- that’s really nice, thank you.”, I take a cookie from the plate.

“No problem, besides, I feel like I haven’t gotten to know you that well and I thought this was a good ice breaker.”

I turn to the computer to clarify if I’m done, and when I’m sure that I am, I turn my attention to Pascao and my mug of tea.

“Ok, what do you want to know about me?”, I ask him while savoring the warmth of my drink.

“Well, nothing in particular, I just want to talk with you more”, He seems to ponder for a few seconds before continuing, “Ok nevermind, I would like to know how you were able to keep track of Miss Perfect for so many years.”

I laugh. “Look man, I wish I could tell you how.”

Him and I slip into comfortable conversation, we tell stories about crazy Patriot missions, stories from our childhood, and eventually I do tell him how I managed to keep track of my stubborn little sister. But eventually a little over two hours later, he asks me a question.

“So, quick little question, how exactly did you and June end up here.”

“Hm, I thought you and all the Patriots would know by now.”

“Well, I already have the basic premise of why you’re here: You were almost murdered because you were snooping, Commander Ass face wanted you to arrest Day, You and June ended up breaking him out of prison and running away to join us and our cause.”, He summarizes while grabbing another cookie.

I blink. Razor must have explained our situation to him.

“Yep.”

“Well, I want to hear your side of it, not just the basics.”

“Um alright, it’s kind of a downer though.”, I explain to him.

“Metias, dear, my life’s kind of a downer, I can handle it.”, He jokes while smiling and I find myself blushing.

I proceed to tell him about everything that happened. From me questioning the Republic to Thomas betraying my trust. And as I’m telling him all of this, I realize just how long I’ve been wanting to talk about it.

After I finish up and tie it all together, I look up for the first time in a while and I notice Pascao staring at me.

“Metias... that’s... that’s so much for one person to deal with.”, He tells me, holding my gaze for so long I have to look away, pretending to be extremely fascinated by the color of my tea.

“I told you it would be a downer.”, I chuckle lightly, I hope it will lift the mood, but it’s a somber sound. A sound that conveys too much.

As expected, the mood doesn’t change. We end up sitting in silence for what feels like an eternity and for a moment I wish I never told him.

“You know,” Pascao begins, “Sometimes I look at the Republic or hear horror stories like this and it just... it makes me so mad that people like that are allowed to control a nation.”

I nod in agreement. The only reason I’m here is because horrid people are in charge. Day had to become a felon and lose his mom and brother because of the people in charge, Junebug had to lose her parents and grow up too fast because of the people in charge, I had to lose my parents and risk my life because of the people in charge. The system is broken, it’s been broken since day one. A lot of us were just too naive to see it or try to change it until it was too late.

“It’s shitty. It really is.”

“Very.”, He replies.

After a minute or two of more silence he breaks it again, “I’m sorry, I know that doesn’t fix anything but I really am.”

“Thank you.”, I look up at him and give a small smile.

“You were right, Iparis, that was one hell of a downer.”, He tells me.

I laugh for real this time. “Now this means you have to tell me a tragic story next time.”

“I will.”, He promises.

Pascao yawns and starts to get up, grabbing the empty plate of cookies. I only then realize how late (or early I should say) it’s getting.

“Well, I’ll let you get some sleep.”, He begins to walk out of the door but stops and turns around.

“Hey, uh, by the way, that Thomas guy sucks, I mean, if he wasn’t willing to disobey your goddy commander for you then he just wasn’t worth it.”, He pauses for a moment, as if he’s choosing his next words very carefully, “But hey, it’s his loss, he missed out on a badass with a very nice face.”

His last words catch me off guard and I don’t know whether to laugh or blush furiously.

“Thanks, that means a lot.”, I smile in his direction.

“No problem.”

“Hey, Pascao.”, I call out before he leaves

He turns around again, raising an inquisitive eyebrow.

“You’ve got a pretty nice face too.”

He smiles back at me and I’m relieved to see a light blush on his cheeks.

“Ok ok, now I’m going to actually let you get some sleep.”, He heads out the door while saying goodnight.

As he leaves my room and goes toward his, I laugh to myself and feel my face burning up.

I retract my previous statement.

Maybe catching feelings for a man isn’t so bad.
