heyo! just wanted to say i absolutely love what you do! my partner is a hypno named sleet, he's the sweetest boy ever, although he's a bit stubborn at times. i'm doing research on it and drowzee for a presentation (i currently go to uva academy in paldea) and i was wondering if you had any intresting facts about them? thank you in advance!

i think the drowzee line has some of the coolest sensory specialization around- the ability to tell what kind of dream someone by smell! we're still not sure exactly how they do it, but it's likely a combination of them sensing physiological changes that occur when someone is having a good vs bad dream (such as sweating) and them using their psychic powers.

hypno sometimes gets a bad rap because of stories of hypno kidnapping children- instances of that happening are extremely rare, and only occur when the hypno is effectively starving. they prefer to eat good dreams, after all! but i think one thing that's really awesome is how common they are as therapy pokemon, especially in hospital settings. they're one of the best pokemon out there at putting people to sleep, which is an extremely valuable skill to have for doctors who work with patients struggling with insomnia. ive met a sleep therapy hypno, and even got the chance to let it use hypnosis on me- that was one of the best nights of sleep i ever had!

UPDATE ON ROCKY:

Rocky has warmed up to us after we proved that doctors are not too scary, and also after we have given him many, many, many toys with meat in them. The pumpkin we stuffed with chuck steak and froze in a block of ice for him to chip at, was, in fact, a massive hit.

We have been given permission to not keep him in quarantine - he's not gonna be around other mons but we can go in there for longer than thirty seconds for food and water and stuff. He's a lot more chill now that he has meds.

Oh speaking of which - at least one person asked if he's got some sort of specific illness, and I am happy to say he's fine! All the health issues - cataracts, joint pain, etc, is just because he's Old! not that that's a good thing, but it's good he's not sick or anything, just an elderly guy. He's got some pain meds and we gave him a lil push cart so he can sit on it and wheel around when he doesn't want to walk (he can't fly super well).

He's been sleeping a lot but from what I've heard is that he at least understands that we're not a threat and want to help, so he's like. cordial is the best way of saying it? not actively friendly but aware that we bring him meat pumpkins so he's willing to put up with us. He's very smart!

But unfortunately, the bad news: we still have not located a trainer for Rocky. We're sure now that he's registered but we just don't have any leads. Rn we're trying to scour the region, but if anyone has reach in other areas, that would be great. We know now he couldn't have flown in from another region - he's too old and not mobile enough for that, but maybe a trainer took a trip and he got lost or something? Or his ball was? We're not sure. But for now, Rocky is going to be a lab mon and just be... here. I guess.

Update on Rocky:

It is morning. We still do not know who his trainer is but hopefully someone comes forward soon.

On the plus side, we are in contact with a doctor! Can’t get in contact with a fossil specialist (there are maybe five in the region and we do NOT have the money or contacts to get in touch with one) but we have a rock type specialist doctor and a specialist of flying-types of prey, which is the closest we can all get, alongside our usual doctor contact, who might not be as much help but we could use anyone we can get.

While we won’t know if there’s other issues til they get here in a few days, from talking and sending photos they confirmed our suspicions- Rocky is (thankfully, only mildly) dehydrated and has cataracts, as well as generally going through it (difficult with movement, lethargy, etc). They aren’t sure if the cataracts and other symptoms are because he’s sick or anything or just a product of age til they check it out, but it’s good to know.

Rn we’re all worried about the dehydration part. We did give him water but he didn’t drink a whole lot - gave it in a bowl because we didn’t have a whole lot of options on hand, so maybe he needs a feeder bottle or something else to drink from? Uh rn the plan is to try and give him foods with water in them and hope that gets fluids in him.

So far one of my coworkers slipped in while Rocky was asleep so we can move him to a bigger room (pokemon pen for socialization) that we sanitized. Gave him more of the meat toys but we put in wet pokemon food with the meat toys to hopefully introduce more water into their diet. Also more water, he drank some more in the night so that’s good. We dunno what exactly might be wrong so we didn’t want to risk meds yet, but we agreed we’d put it in the next food drop if we get the go ahead from an expert or if he gets visibly worse.

Rocky is more accepting of our presence now - not actively growling or trying to attack, more so just moving further away when we entered for food and to bring more blankets. (he shredded one and this seemed to to bring him joy, so we gave him some old ones)

I relayed the info. Someone left an “offering” of two blankets and a canine pokemon chew toy that we stuffed with burger meat. This seemed to have worked.

We THINK? They’re asleep and honesty it’s dark in the room now and we can’t hear anything from in there so we all figured poor guy conked out. He (it is a he we got a better look) had a long day eating patrat and scaring a bunch of ecology/biology/vetinary students, he prob needs the rest.

Again, it is ass o clock am so rn we’re gonna print the posters and then try to sleep and put them up when we’re awake. I put up some online alerts for a lost areodactyl but it’ll be a bit til we get responses probably. For now, we have Rocket/Rocky the areodactoyl (we don’t have a name but he seems cool with the one we gave him so).

the theory is that he’s from another region because unova doesn’t have areodactyl registered anywhere we can access. Or he was dumped here. Either way he might be here for a bit.

any advice on keeping him for longer than one night? Especially on letting us give him a check up, his eyes seem… unfocused? And his gums are off color. Idk how to describe it, but we want to check but we can’t get close enough to.

okay so I'm working part time while at school at a unovan conservation group (not plasma) and we usually work with patrat, right? rn we're studying patrat social dynamics. It's nice

except okay. we're tracking multiple packs from multiple areas across unova. and the one by route 3 started going all weird so we decided to go check it out (my coworkers did I don't have the mobility but I watched them go).

there's a fucking areodactyl.

we tried to catch it with a ball but I guess he's got a trainer? we haven't gotten the registry done yet because it's ass o clock in the morning for us but it chilled out and stopped trying to kill all the patrat we're studying and so it must be at least used to humans.

there is NOT much info on revived fossil mons here because of how new the revival process is here no one knows what they eat outside of Meat? Maybe???? and no one knows what they need and fuck what do you do with an areodactyl.

i'm trying to find research to send them on What To Do With A Fuckin Areodactyl and also find out who's fucking Areodactyl this is and why would they leave it in the middle of bumfuck nowhere Unova at one in the goddamn morning but right now I'm just freaking out.

If anyone following me knows how fossil pokemon work please what do you do with an Areodactyl.

Uh they seem older but still mobile. We tried to check up and they seem healthy but they also don't really want us to get too close/touchy so we can't check like, the mouth or teeth or eyes that well. We're calling them Rocky. They said no to several types of pokefood and no to berries but did like the rawhide chews for canine pokemon and also tried to eat a coworker's burger when one member of the team went out to get everyone food for the late night. They have drank water, but not much. It seems chilled out and less bitey and scratchy and generally angry but apparently doesn't like any of the other mons here so we're letting them hang in an empty storage room we cleared out.

I'll see if I can get a pic when I go in person for work in a day or two.
