When I was small, I knew the tune and like a dozen words of The Banks of Loch Lomond. Maybe I saw it on TV or picked it up from my mom, who had a folk song habit left over from the 70s. And it plagued me for years. I didn’t retain most of the words, which were a little hard to parse to a Midwestern child in the 90s due to all the Scottishness, and not all that interesting to a baby, being as it’s about being sad about death next to some water. So really I just retained “someone takes the high road and someone takes the low road” (I frequently muddled which was which) “and they’ll be somewhere before ye” and just this fragment would play endlessly in my head.  Anyway I used the song for a creepy little motif in a ghost story and have plunged myself back into hell. No matter how many renditions I listen to in full, I still wind up with the high road, the low road, my true love and I, something something, Loch Looooooomond playing on repeat.

Much as we mock “The <honorific> of <cool noun> and <other cool noun>” titles, nonfiction is at least as wild. Apparently every anthropology book is called “Impressive and Allusory Quote: The thing, thing, and other thing of Region”

Playing a lot with old school horror in sf settings for whatever reason. No shade on sci-fi horror with bad aliens and eldritch vastness and all, I just like making people deal with vampires while they orbit Europa

If like me you don’t know how to answer the question “what kind of music do you like” just say the names of lofi channels on youtube. Oh, you know, I’m really into Ghost Radio right now, but I had a real Dreamhop thing for a while...
