My boyfriend didn’t go to university until he was 28 because he didn’t feel anywhere near ready when he was 18. He graduated with first-class honours, went on to do a Masters, and is now a history teacher. It’s so much more important to do things when you’re able to fully commit to them and do them to the best of your ability than to rush to do them by an imaginary deadline.

“Carol falls down all the time, but she always gets back up — we say that about Captain America as well, but Captain America gets back up because it’s the right thing to do. Carol gets back up because ‘Fuck you.’ ” — Kelly Sue DeConnick on Carol Danvers

The best thing about captain marvel is she’s not just a “token” female superhero. Her gender is a key aspect of her origin story. The entire movie she being told to stay down, to control herself, to be less than she can be. She’s being manipulated into believing she needs to “fight with one hand tied behind [her] back.” She becomes a hero when she finally lets go of all that and embraces the full scope of her power. When she remembers how to get back up again and fight. When she no longer feels obligated to prove herself to those who would keep her down. That isn’t just a hero story that’s a woman story. And it started the entire marvel franchise. Incredible.

Happy International Women’s Day!
To celebrate, I drew three of my favourite fictional female characters of all time: Princess Leia, Mulan and Peggy Carter.
They taught me to have courage, to persist, to never give up on my dreams, to be confident, to hope.

You know what the worst part of being dead is? You’re stuck. Nowhere to go. No way to change. That’s the real torture, if you got to know. Watching your brother take for granted everything you lost and pissing it all away.
