if im allowed to be so fucking real i dont think kayleigh is particularly fully innocent regarding tetsuji and the moriyamas and i don’t think she’s particularly fully on board and evil about it either. if we’re to judge her by her offspring kayleigh most likely knew a little bit about how bad tetsuji was but knew she had to make a choice between her ambitions and fulfilling her role as a mother, and she chose kevin when she could and exy when she couldn’t. it’s the same morality applied to whether she was evil or not to hide from wymack that he is kevin’s father—she had to make a choice between her responsibilities as a mother and her career, and she chose her career. consistently and all across kayleigh has put exy first and foremost, and that’s exactly in line with what we would expect from kevin’s mother, especially when you take in consideration that exy was her life’s work and everyone around her was constantly trying to find a way to demote her out of it so that exy could belong solely to her male counterpart

if we can put our thinking hats on for a second we can ask ourselves why tetsuji was handed a coach role and his own team when kayleigh was relegated to being an ambassador instead. a lot of us assume it was moriyama madness, but the moriyamas, famously, wanted nothing to do with exy up until the point kengo died. if kayleigh went through with the decision of putting exy in the backlog for motherhood, she would have been pushed out of the scene entirely—she would have been kevin’s mother, yes, but allowed to be nothing else. perhaps her decisions were selfish and egoistical and focused solely on her own ambitions, but isn’t that pretty in line with what we expect from kevin, anyway? the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree for a reason

you know, i get it. being raised as a superstar must be really, really difficult for you. always a commodity, never a human being, not a single person in your family thinking you’re worth a damn off the court - yeah, sounds rough. me and kevin talk about your intricate and endless daddy issues all the time. i know it’s not entirely your fault that you are mentally unbalanced and infected with these delusions of grandeur, and i know you’re physically incapable of holding a decent conversation with anyone like every other normal human being can, but i don’t think that any of us should have to put up with this much of your bullshit. pity only gets you so many concessions, and you used yours up about six insults ago. so please, please, just shut the fuck up and leave us alone.

sometimes when i want to feel really crazy about mary and neil i think about that part of the ec where neil says he wouldnt give up the life he has now for his mother and bee says she doesnt think mary would ever ask him to bcus mary only ever wanted him to be safe and its just so.

like often when people talk about how mary would react to neil's life if she were still alive its heavily negative with her being violent or her hating the decisions he's made but can you imagine the relief mary would've felt to see that her son is vibrantly alive and in love and free in a way that she had only seen previously when he was on little league courts. like despite it all this is still mary who only ever smiled while watching him play :(

in the version of aftg that exists only in my mind neil is half or maybe a fourth chinese which is a hc that mainly compels me because of mary and the burning car. when someone dies you burn their things so they get to keep them. mary and neil didn't have anything except their bodies and the things they ran with so that's all mary gets in the afterlife which is incredibly cruel but at least she chose this. neil probably expects that's all he'll get too assuming there's even anyone around to do the burning when he dies. neil's cigarettes acting as joss sticks. the funeral imagery makes me sick

I couldn't care less about jean and jeremy and I never understood why they were such a big ship in aftg long before their trilogy came out. I never even thought about them before. what made people ship in the first place? we hardly even see(read?) about jeremy in the original books. I didn't even read the new trilogy bc they don't interest me at all.
