Studyblr for Research
84 posts
This is the blog for a preliminary research project by L. E. Whitman (lionsgobrawrg), an undergrad student IUN. In order to better inform parents, educators and fellow researchers, I hope to show how some of today's youth can and do use online platforms to create, share and inspire each other. Academiabot is a place for members of the #studyblr, # studyspo and #appblr community can share their ideas and experiences on their education systems, learning and how these online movements effect them. I really hope to hear from you all!

#STUDYBLR RESEARCH SURVEY
Attention Studyblr Community! Please answer my short survey and questionnaire on the studyblr community.
I am an anthropology undergraduate at Indiana University Northwest, to be Communication Master’s student at Purdue University Calumet in the fall of 2015. I am conducting a preliminary research project on the #studyblr community as a senior project as a possible way for educators and students to communicate and exchange educational resources online. If all goes well, I will be continuing the project into graduate school and hope to present my findings at the Interactions Conference 2016, a University of California-LA journal on Gender in Education and Information.
This survey is preliminary and covers mostly demographics and member thoughts on he community, but I eventually hope to incorporate #studyblr as a way to encourage students, particularly underrepresented students, to join higher education generally and STEM field in particular.
The survey is two parts, I’m sorry. I have limited resources right now and Survey Monkey only allows 10 questions.
Part One & Part Two
Please participate and share! My personal Tumblr is lionsgobrawrg and the research blog is academiabot.

Another Starbucks setup! Deviated from my usual white mocha americano this morning and got a quadruple caramel macchiato instead. Drove to the uni early today to avoid the morning rush. We will have the last day of our recruitment booth today (join UP Babaylan!!! #babayLOVE) So, I’m picking up my friend at our alumni office, which we have practically been using as a frat house, then we’ll go to the uni to set up our booth.
Since it’s still early, I hope to finish a few pages of my Agency reviewer, which is taking shape pretty nicely if you ask me, before I pick up my friend. :)

I just got the results back for my first test in my psychology class and I failed it. I studied really hard for it. My professor throws out the worst test and doesn't count it for our final grade, but I'm just angry that I studied and still failed. Other than asking her about what to do differently or how I can study for her tests better, what would you suggest I do?
It happens. Especially at the beginning of the semester. Don’t beat yourself up about it.
Part of learning to study is also learning how to read professors. Understanding what kinds of tests they give, what kinds of questions they ask, and discovering their little hidden hints in class. You should naturally get better at that stuff as you go.
What kind of tests does she give? You should study differently for different kinds of tests. You wouldn’t study the same way for a multiple choice test as a fill in the blank test. (There’s a blog post below with more info.)
We have written a lot of studying blogs based on our own experiences and what has worked for us. Here are some of the best ones:

Flashed Face Distortion Effect
Like many interesting scientific discoveries, this one was an accident. Sean Murphy, an undergraduate student, was working alone in the lab on a set of faces for one of his experiments. He aligned a set of faces at the eyes and started to skim through them. After a few seconds, he noticed that some of the faces began to appear highly deformed and grotesque. He looked at the especially ugly faces individually, but each of them appeared normal or even attractive. He called it the “Flashed Face Distortion Effect”.
Here is a masterpost of interesting tricks you can play on your mind like this one. Here’s my masterpost of all things related to the human mind and brain.

Note
my friend and I are both studyblrs and ever since we got into it, she has been very competitive to the point where she always has to find something bad to say about my achievements and she can never be happy for me when I get a good grade. When we go on study dates she always says things to put me down and it takes a toll on my self esteem. I want to wish her well but she brings so much toxicity into my life. What should I do?
tbh my answers to competitive asks are sounding so contradicting now, but talk with your friend about your issue!
If she is oblivious to how it makes you feel, she won’t be able to fix her habit. Be patient with your friend, and remind them if they ever overstep their boundaries!
If your friend continues her habit of bringing people down without putting in the effort to change, then cut her out of your life. We should all cut toxic people out of our lives and surround ourselves with people who will help us grow.
