Hey. How’s your novel going??

Pretty good! It’s been just about a year now since I’ve started writing it, and I just recently finished the first “good” draft of the first chapter (since I usually write non-chronologically, I just write out whichever part I want at that moment), like all edited and that stuff. There’s actually been a ton of changes too, since I last talked about it, for example, Nano is no longer a character, and I’ve introduced a new character in his place. I only created vaem around a month ago, so vaer integration into the plot isn’t fully developed yet, but vaer slowly becoming a favourite of mine, even if vaer a bit of a minor character. Vaer name is Rascal!

Okay, so it’s been a short visit, but I’m probably going to leave again. I figured after thinking a lot through my hiatus I knew the changes I needed to make to make this work better, but something in the back of my head keeps telling me to search for things that are going to upset me, and I don’t think I want to stay here long enough to change that (because I know it will take months and I don’t want to force myself to deal with months of negativity for the chance of a good experience) so I’m heading off again. Maybe I’ll come back eventually, maybe not.

I did!! I got him on March 2nd after 1,088 SRs (so about 40 hours, which is super quick for an Alolan Starter Hunt)

As someone who gets emotionally invested in books, i got a question, does the torch keeper have a happy/good end? Like at the end of the third book?

I would say yeah!! I actually got so happy about it that I cried, and then the next day I asked my grandma to photocopy just the last few pages for me to read until I could buy my own copy of the book. It’s so good, if you can deal with a lot of emotion for the first two books and the majority of the third, there’s a beautiful payoff. It leaves you longing, you want to see where they turn out.

It’s not the fanfics. I’m completely fine about not reading a story that has triggering content. I’m talking about the fandom discourse. I’m not going to call any out directly because I don’t want to call that attention to me, or get the details wrong and upset someone. Every third post I would see was someone saying “you can’t do this, you can’t like this character, if you like this character it has to be this way” and I just don’t want to deal with that anymore. New discourse would spring up every week, and I just don’t want to see it. This is the stuff I don’t have control over, so I’m choosing to remove myself because I prioritize my mental health over fandom

You can block tags dude. Scroll past something that begins to sound negative. Filter it yourself by not paying it any mind.

I have so many tags blocked, you don’t even know. The thing is that even when something is blocked, there will always be people who don’t tag, and I can unfollow them, but then more people start not tagging. There’s also the fact that these problems are not finite—there will be new ones every so often. And I can block them as early as I like, but there will still be new problems that I can’t predict, and I’ll keep seeing that negative content. And I’m not going to make a big post telling everyone in the fandom “hey don’t do this” because it’s not going to reach everyone, not everyone will listen, and not everyone has to listen. I’m not trying to dictate what everyone is doing. I’m seeing it, recognizing it’s bad for my mental health, and taking measures to prevent myself from seeing it without telling people how to behave.

I appreciate the message, but I’ve spent a long time thinking this over in the months I’ve been gone. I don’t see myself as part of the fandom anymore, and I don’t expect myself to interact with the fandom because of that. I still love the show, but I don’t think interacting in the community is good for me anymore.

Hey guys, so I’ve just come to check in after a couple months away

I gotta be honest, I do miss Tumblr a bit. I miss being able to share my thoughts and my writing, and sometimes just scream into the void. But if I do come back, I don’t know if I’ll be in any fandom.

Over the years, I’ve been in so many fandoms, and every time it ends the same way—with the community arguing so much that I end up leaving and hating the content that I came to the fandom for. If I can leave early enough, then I can still love the source material, but it’s always on my own. I feel like I can’t share that enthusiasm with anyone but close friends. So if I do end up rejoining Tumblr, you probably won’t see a lot of the stuff I used to post, mainly Sanders Sides. The reason I left was because there was so much negativity in the fandom, and everyone was just arguing. I don’t think I can be a part of that anymore. And I don’t know if I’ll come back just yet, but I thought I would make this post.

Hey, I’m probably gonna be spending some time away from Tumblr. There’s a lot happening all over, and it’s stressing me out, I need to step away from it and kind of focus on my own things, my writing, school, mental health, all that stuff.

I don’t know how long I’ll be gone, and I might jump on every once in awhile for short bits of time (I’ll probably share some pictures of my birds when I get them sometime next week) but for the most part I’ll be off.
