just thinking about the contrast of ford's open field of golden wheat as a mindscape vs the greyscale pine forest in stanley's head.

something something ford's mind being the opposite of a forest as a metaphor for how he became uprooted from his human connections in favor of bill's monocropped scape. a tilled, controlled field that is being slowly drained of its nutrients for profit.

something something, stanley's mind being a pine forest because he never surrendered for his family, never gave up on them, but it wasn't returned so where was the color? nowhere except inside the mystery shack. where his family is.

there's also a metaphor to be made here about pine forests - how pines grow in poor soil and tend to be fire-resistant, needing controlled burns to prevent being outcompeted by other species - but i haven't finished sorting that one out yet!!

Emma-May Dixon: The Evolutionary, another mad scientist in town. She specialized in mutation, genetic modification, and beast-control tech. Fiddleford's beloved (on-again, off-again) wife, and one of the Spectator's villains (their third divorce argument completely destroyed the downtown area. They will remarry later.)

Bronzemoon and I had so much fun coming up with their details. The lore goes deep and I can't wait to draw them more!

Had so much fun talking details with my co-parents of this AU, @coldbronzemoon. The brainworms have taken over! So, here are the CONCEPT ART of the Cosmic Duo (designed by Bronzemoon as well!), and the adults in their "Primes" years! (The genres crash is so real.)

Dipper and Mabel: Astro and Comet, the Cosmic duo! Magical Pre-teens with the power granted by THE AXOLOTL, the newest heroes on the block for Gravity Falls City! Ready to take the town by storm with their Magical Mascot, Waddles, the Cosmic Hog! [CURRENT STATUS: Debuted, active.]

Stanley Pines: The Piranha, the biggest crime lord in town. He'll chase you down and chew you up faster than you can flinch! [CURRENT STATUS: active.]

Stanford Pines: Six-Shooter, the scientist turned sci-fi gunslinger, the best protector and biggest hero of Gravity Falls City. Nemesis of Bill Cipher. [CURRENT STATUS: active.]

Fiddleford Hadron McGucket: The Spectator, Six-Shooter's Partner, tech genius, and owner of the biggest spy camera network in Gravity Falls. [CURRENT STATUS: retired.]

Mentions Reverse Portal AU

You know what would be nuts? If Ford went looking for alternatives to getting his brother back without restarting the portal and eventually creating a contraption that siphoned a whole bunch of cosmic energy that the government soon detects from their archaic network readings.

And Ford had to go into hiding from the government for years, never knowing sanctuary because he’s always on the move. He never settles down, so this is like his adventure arc throughout the multiverse, except now he’s still one earth and his brother is beyond the portal. Both of the older Pines twins are basically going through an adventure arc.

Can you imagine that Stanford also had to deal with identity mix-ups with Stanley’s enemies and that’s why it took Stanford even longer to open up another gateway?

This would mean that the twin’s family, the Pines family, would have to deal with a part of their family missing for many years.

I can just easily imagine a side by side view of the two of them, on one side Stanley is running from law enforcement and monsters and all sorts of interdimensional beings, all the while blasting them with a laser gun, and the other showing Stanford sailing the seas and possible breaking into top security facilities on earth for illegal equipment.

Many years later, it’s at this point when Stanford’s made aware of his great nibblings, Dipper and Mabel, and their existence somehow convinces Stanford to reenter society a new man. He’s still wanted pretty much everywhere at this point, but he still gets to reopen an upgraded version of the portal.

Then he has no choice but to abandon all self-doubt and open up the portal when the government gets word of his whereabouts and hightails to his location.

I wonder if there’s an AU out there where Stanley is given a limited amount of time to patch things up with Stanford after the portal due to his declining health because of an unfortunate radiation exposure from toxic waste, which is used to fuel the portal. And Stanford doesn’t know about his brother’s worsening condition until he begins displaying the ill effects of contamination. He freaks out and starts shutting down everything. The kids will be alright of course. Stanford will have most likely quarantined the whole Mystery Shack and the people in it and build a sanitized space station around the house to bubble everyone within (if he has to). Think of it as Stanley being the only one enduring the symptoms and then slowly beginning to accept his fate. Then here’s Stanford, fretting over everybody and checking their charts for results, and his analysis proves that Stanley is the only one who is exposed. And then Stanford is just filled with immense dread.

A tale of two stan

Mr "avoidance maneuvers" denying his reality really has the flavor of a guy mentally saying, very quietly so the rest of his brain doesn't hear, I'm at the end of my fucking rope and if I experience any kind of shift in worldview I'm not going to be held responsible for my actions.

Princess Stan is turning his back going lalala can't hear you, but his living situation is stabilized enough that he's mostly going to look like a dumbass.

Vamp Stan, once he processes the absurdity of what his already terrible life has turned into, is going to find someplace quiet so he can scream as long as he physically can. He's then going to come back and go "ok worldview adjusted. now what."

Your exactly correct. Vamp Stan realizes on a deep level that Something is up with him, and has put all his cards on 'new blood disease that makes people bite each other' because his life is so awful he can't handle his worldview altering to add a whole new level of awfulness in 'all those people were trying to eat me, and could have succeeded if I hadn't instinctively bit the first guy' or 'I died in such a way I didn't even notice, and the guy who killed me did it because I wasn't my brother.' and 'Something Bad happened when I woke up in that Box, and no one was there when clawed my way out to help me recover. I had to adjust to being dead and Changed on my own.' and 'I am some new form of undead, that survives by making things want to eat me. What does that say about me?' and all kinds of other trauma he is locking down tight and Not Looking at. He's been living on his own for 10 years and surviving by sheer luck half of that, and now he hasn't. He died and is dead and could have stayed dead if not for a series of unconnected events that also almost killed him.

So the moment it clicks that yes, vampires are real, and yes, he's a new vampire with a very specific prey and hunting method that has 0 benefits outside of hunting he's going to need an empty room and a pillow so he can scream all his emotions out and resuppress the Horrors. Then he'll be fine :)

Princess Stan stuck his fingers in his ears Chapter 1 and hasn't pulled them out. He is on the path to becoming a laughing stalk and cautionary tale about trust. he's never going to live this down. He doesn't know it yet, but he's already ruined. The moment the curse gets broken his worldview is going to be smashed by 'oh my god, it was Ford the whole time. I need to disappear forever and never show my face to anyone'

Cat Stan but Stan manages to write “Lee” and meow SOS and Ford is like… 😧 my cat is psychic and he’s telling me my brother is in danger!! And then he and Stan go on a road trip to find Stan and he learns all ab Stan’s terrible life and Stan is like stop driving us toward people who want me dead!! I’m right here!!

God thats so funny. Does he bring Fiddleford and Carla? Is he bashing Stan the whole time they're 'rescuing' him? Imagine how pissed off Bill is during this. Ford just up and abandons the portal because his physcic cat told him Stan's in trouble, but refuses to be any further help. Meanwhile Stan is yelling at these nerds to stop chasing the mob and go home?! He's right here! Stop picking fights with all of Stan's enemies!

Even worse if Ford gets mistaken for Stan and gets a run down of some of the stuff Stan's gone through, them bragging about all the stuff they made Stan do for money/because he owed them money, ticking Fords fury meter up and making him look for Stan even harder.
