The  journey starts
12th of September
Name: Adriana Nationality: Italian Background: Graphic Design and Visual Communication
I want my Final Project to
represent my interests and my profile as a designer. I want it to challenge me and resume all the skills and the learnings i gathered from this IDP year.
I’m interested
in exploring the field of psychotherapy and communication in mental disorders. I want my project not to be a solution tool for the patient, but more a communication facilitator or a treatment that the therapist can use during the sessions. I want to use both digital and physical.
This project is relevant because...
This project is important for me because it represent one of my main interest which is communication linked to psychotherapy which another big curiosity for me. The project is also linked to personal experiences I had in my kin of people and my family specifically.
Society wise, I believe that there is not an official version of “normality” and I think that therapies and communication should be more flexible and adaptive on the kind of patient.
During my Final Project I would like to challenge myself in...
Confort zone: Graphic Design, UI/Ux, PCR
Out of confort: Physical prototyping, electronics, coding(arduino), Psychotherapy, Mental health, Medicine
I want to challenge myself thinking about a solution which could be a mix of physical and digital, where the patient doesn’t have to go towards digitalization to be included, but the tool is adapting his/her needs.

HealthCare Philips project in the psychiatry center Visualization of pain
My starting point
1.  I am researching about Alzheimer in its moderate or advanced stage, when the person muscle mass and mobility are deteriorated and body becomes a prison. From a personal experience I noticed how much touch is important start the dialog with an affected person, so I want to explore what is the connection with sensory design and this kind of diseases.
2. Moreover, I am trying to study eating disorders and how to segment the emotions of the patient, and work around the sense of acceptation of the disease inside the family and perception of the food. I am also exploring what innovative food companies like nordic lab.
3. Another starting point could be around the topic of communicating pain and emotions with a person who doesn’t have a “normal” way of communicating.
In all of these points i want to understand the main parts of this diseases and the network around them and how this one is it affected. Sometimes this patients are not conscious of their illness and other people suffer even more.
I want my project to be a communication facilitator. For now I will concentrate on interviews and research.
My explorations so far
None, I just personal experience. I was able to see how in Alzheimer touch is so important to wake up this people which are prison of their bodies and deteriorate even faster when closed in care centers.
At the moment I am contacting people to set some interviews.
