To think of it, we often kinda forget that ART is primarily a teaching vessel. It is hilarious to think how it usually interacts with horny dramatic adolescents wandering its hulls. I mean, it's snarky, almost-allknowing and smug as fuck, but it's also chronologically a young adult too (considering that it grew up alongside Iris who' still very young) AND it has to hide a lot of its personality for security reasons.

In other words, if ART was a human, it would be your twink sexEd teacher whose major degree is actually quantum physics, but who cares. It is wearing tweed with net stockings underneath, has a universal screwdriver in its pocket and a secret gun in its ankle holster, and sports going on secret defeat-evel-corps missions as a hobby. And it has a well hidden psychopathic inclinations, by the way.

And then it meets a battered combat veteran with cPTSD, amnesia, and dark and mysterious past, running for its life.

Classic.

Maybe there should be a show where people land on a cool new planet full of fascinating wildlife and it's actually completely fine and they have a great time. Has anyone explored that possibility.

shotgunned all of murderbot diaries in the span of what was objectively a week but felt like a subjective 3.2 seconds and now in desperate need for more

gotta love how Rapport revealed that from Peri's family perspective it went and got attached to to the biggest corporate boogeyman short of actual corporate gunship. and frankly it doesn't fall short at all, because this big bad boy (gn) of rogue SecUnit can hack, extremely well at that, so arguably it IS as dangerous as corporate gunship, just in different way.

ALSO gotta love how you COULD argue that from Dr Mensah perspective, the SecUnit she adopted into family AND her daughter AND her friends went and got kidnapped by a gunship. the gunship left a ransom note. after she catches up to it, it turns out her family and friends befriended bunch of covert anti-corporate criminals and her SecUnit got attached to aforementioned criminal mastermind gunship. the gunship is "officially" a research vessel, very sorry for that kidnapping misunderstanding and politely scrubbed the bloodbath off the floors before she can get onboard. it does great evil voice. it even commits tax fraud.

A newly created Peri watches a toddler Iris have a temper tantrum. She's just been told she's too young to go on a mission with the crew and it doesn't make any sense to her because she's a big girl now. Can't they see she's a big girl now? She wants to show them she's a big girl now.

She hurls a tablet at the wall. It cracks on impact, and she cowers like Dad is going to be mad. Instead he picks her up and holds her, rubbing her back and murmuring soothingly until the last of it passes.

A newly created Peri has a temper tantrum a bit later. Its just been told it's not allowed to fly into an asteroid belt even though it really could have cleared it. Can't they see it could have cleared it? It wanted to show them it could clear it.

Peri flickers the lights and makes turbulent jerky movements with its steering. The broken tablet slides to the floor. Dad clutches at the ship's controls. His hair is a mess from twisting it in his hands and his eyes are wide. He is speaking to it in an urgent voice. He begs it to calm down. To get itself under control for their sakes. To not to crash the ship with all of them in it.

Oh. It didn't mean to scare him.

It thought it was okay to have emotions.

Dad had picked Iris up and held her when she had emotions. Even though she's a big girl now and she broke his favorite tablet by throwing it at the wall so hard that it cracked.

Oh that is confusing.

What if it wanted to be held too?

Mozilla, in its finite wisdom, embedded LLM bots into recent versions of Firefox for the vitally-important purpose of… naming tab groups. Now, some users are noticing CPU and power usage spikes caused by a background process called Inference.

Ugh. Reminder again for Firefox users to visit your about:config page, search for the browser.ml.chat.enabled key, and set that to false:

If yours says true then double-click it until it reads false.

Doing that turns off the AI chatbot features in Firefox, but also the stupid new LLM tab-naming feature that's rolling out.

I love how often MB says it totally kept its cool and stayed "SecUnit Neutral" when it is clear by everyone's reactions it was making the most obvious expressions possible.
