Seb hands over one of the two sachets to Mark, then licks his hand before opening his. Mark looks like he wants to say something about the licking, but chooses not to. Instead he pointedly picks up the lime slice from one of the glasses and runs it over the crescent of his thumb and index. Sebastian lets his eyes linger there, indulgent. If he gets caught he'll cite the alcohol as an excuse. They cheers, and Mark maintains eye contact with Sebastian. Upwards of five years of partying together in the name of team spirit means he’s heard Seb snip at him over German drinking superstitions enough times to remember. The fact Mark remembers this, that he indulges in Seb’s idiosyncrasies bubbles under Seb’s ribs, makes his cheeks feel warm. Seb takes full advantage of the eye contact to let himself watch as Mark licks the salt off his hand. The tequila burns at the back of Seb’s own throat, and combines with the warmth into something more present and more dangerous. He bites into the lime to tamp down on being too reckless.  “If you get another round, I’m telling Rocky about the chocolate stash in your driver’s room,” Mark says after, stacking the shot glasses and squeezing both the lime scraps into the top one. “Leave the Milka out of this.” Seb says, “how do you know about that?”  Mark doesn’t say anything, hides what looks to be a teasing smile behind the remainder of his Jagerbomb.

ok but why does no one ever talk about the palpable sexual tension of meeting your match. your equal. it can be in any task you excel in. just the idea of everyone before them being so substandard and then finally you have someone who can challenge you in a way that no one ever has before. someone that can finally be better than you, who can protect you in a way no has ever been able to. there is a certain loneliness in being the best of the best and here comes someone eager to overthrow you. the rivalry. the acceptance of the other’s strength. the equality in skillsets. why does no one ever talk about that? huh? HUH?
