fun fact: during coronation in last sequence (when Gortash walks near us) Gortash touches player's hand. I know it's just an animation issue because of characters' positions and you can't see it without freecam, but I just needed to share it (I knew it since september 2023, but forgot to post)

So I have seen a lot of people chuckle over that "younger man" line in relation to Gortash (as if it is not said in direct comparison to Ketheric) and taken it to mean he might have an issue with aging/some midlife crisis going on.

I'm very much not in that boat. He looks his age. He is one of few characters who does. (Not a lot of straight humans ingame tho, so.)

If you look at the man's history, youth has literally never done him any favors. Being younger has meant being weaker, having less information, and having to rely more on other people -- and often people who shouldn't be in charge of anyone.

To me, that's gonna be someone who has no problem with aging. In fact, he probably likes the way he looks now more than at any other point he has been alive. He's at the point he thinks he has always wanted to be.

To quote a friend: "Enver Gortash has exactly one midlife crisis and its name is Orin."

When replaying BG3, I put back into perspective one line of Karlach's dialogue from when you first recrut her in act 1. She said about her infernal engin, and I quote "I don't know how I've done without it before." SO THAT MEANS, that Gortash is right, it was a gift. Of course, for game mechanics purpose she is as strong as any other characters and not OP, but in lore it means she is a beast. And that is thanks to the evil raccoon man.

Back on my Durgetash bullshit. I'm very patiently waiting for patch 8 to come out to do my definitive Dark Urge run. In the meantime I have so many thoughts and little stories about them running through my head. Hopefully I'll find more time soon to write and/or draw some of it.

Yanthus is the most UNDERRATED NPC of all time, the guy was fullbody deep into the Absolute plan and the thought process of the chosen, and yet we NEVER meet him and that is so sad ! There should be more theory and headcanons like this out ! Yanthus, with only a few lines of scripted lore, is the missing puzzle piece of my artful imaginaire.

BG3 Hot Take:

Vance Farnol is the pseudonym that Scribe Yanthus intended to use.

We find a skeleton in Wyrm's Rock prison with the following document:

In spite of the fact that we find multiple documents throughout the game that have been dictated to Scribe Yanthus by both Ketheric and Gortash, we never find this mysterious person who appeared to have been privy to more details than almost any other person except the Chosen themselves, with whom I would have very much liked to converse.

Yanthus appears to have been responsible for research into elder brains on Gortash's behalf:

Yathus also received dictation from Ketheric on the subjects of drow allies and the druids in these documents: Attracting Drow Exiles and Taking the Groves Off the Table.

Was Yanthus executed for failure to find the Temple of Bhaal, and that's why we never find them? Or... did their expiation result in an accidental utterance leading to an eventual confession of their intention to write a counter-biography to Gortash's memoir?

They would have been an amazing character to encounter, locked away somewhere, and they could give us all the dirt on the Chosen. It makes sense that we don't find them, though, because they know far too much.

Another fun tidbit: if you mix up the letters in Vance Farnol, you can get: NA Love Franc.

Were Yanthus and Franc Peartree up to something that got them both killed?

Probably not, but it would be nifty if they were.

Evil enemies-to-lovers ships are cute and reasonable actually.

It's literally so much easier to spy on someone, infiltrate their evil schemes, get inside their head and drain their bank accounts if you just... move in together.

Get a cute little apartment to hold all their precious stuff in. (That's your hoard now!)

Do your plotting side by side over morning coffee so you can circumvent them at every turn.

Thoughtfully inquire about their day each night before bed so you never miss a detail.

Manipulate them in subtle, impossibly clever ways. Like complimenting their new cologne so they stop buying the cheap shit you're allergic to. Slowly shift them to your way of thinking.

Wear their shirt around the house to assert dominance.

Employ sex to settle conflicts.

Forsake all others. This is a critical security measure, as it avoids involving third parties that would definitely get hurt just to get to you. (Try killing my lover now, you fool!)

Get married to ensure your assets are protected when your enemy spouse inevitably succumbs to failure at your hands.

When they do fail, pick them back up yourself (psychological warfare - make them indebted to you and gain their trust).

Destroy their enemies to assert dominance. They should fear you and no one else. (Besides, all your plots and belongings are so intermingled now, things get messy and their enemies are not smart enough to avoid stepping on your toes. Better to just eliminate them.)

Raise a family together. Usurp their entire lineage.
