CEDRIC REALLY WANTED TO HELP HARRY.  he did. but he doesn’t like breaking rules, and giving harry the exact way to figure out the egg seems like breaking rules to him js. he’s all about fair play, and in this instance, he has to be fair in two ways. a) he needs to be fair to the competition by not giving hogwarts as a whole or another champion an advantage they did not get themselves. b) he has to be fair to harry as he gave cedric the head’s up on the first task. his compromise was to give harry as blatant a hint as he could think of without saying it outright. so while harry thinks he’s fucking with him, he isn’t. he’s just working within the bounds of his beliefs.

POST - WAR PARA STARTER CALL !!! this will take place in cedric’s main post  - war verse where he’s working at the ministry. works well for crossovers , new interactions , etc. because it takes place out of hogwarts , so by all means !! mutuals & non - mutuals may like so long as rules / exclusives are  read.

HEADCANON 001 : transitioning. 

cedric transitioned very young. his parents did struggle for a time, amos more than ana. cedric was 8 or 9 when he attempted to make them understand what he was feeling and why, and after that, they ( mainly ana and his uncle jesus, who was a muggle but openly gay and attending university in america ) researched for a couple years and asked a hundred questions before they truly began to accept and understand it. jesus spoke to professors and friends, not ever specifying cedric or showing him off to people but just as hypotheticals. he eventually found his way into the trans community although they were still quite separate from the “ LGBT ” community in that area at the time. 

still, in the interim of all this , they did agree to call him cedric ( picked out by both he and his parents, who ’ still wanted a hand in naming their child ’ although ana was more involved than amos in the process. he really just agreed at the end ), and by the time he went to hogwarts, they were using the correct pronouns, and even his hogwarts letter came, hand delivered by madam rolanda hooch, addressed to ONE MR. CEDRIC DIGGORY. he couldn’t be more excited.

following cedric’s entry into hogwarts and, eventually, his making the quidditch team, amos diggory compensates for his initial disdain and disorientation with his son a lot. he brags and boasts and parades his son’s achievements, and while cedric knows he means well, he also knows that his father’s antics often translate to ‘ my son is better than yours even though he’s trans ’, and he tries often to explain that to amos. that amos doesn’t need to hoist him up on a pedestal just to prove him being trans doesn’t matter. cedric doesn’t want it part of the reason at all. he is good because he works hard. he is good regardless of his gender, and he thinks it will take his dad a bit longer to see that, but he appreciates the effort regardless. 

CEDRIC ISN’T OUT TO ANYONE. he understands later on how lucky —and quite rare— he is to both have a supportive family and a means of transitioning so early. he also knows that he has never had the trouble others do of passing, which has also greatly benefitted his mental state. still, he isn’t prepared to educate wizards and witches on what this means, what it means to be trans because he doesn’t truly know. he believes he’s had it quite easy, now that he can do research himself, and so he doesn’t want to misrepresent what it means truly. therefore, only a handful of adults know and none more. 

he begins transitioning in his third year. madam hooch speaks to his parents and assures them the process is not as scary as it seems in the magical world, although there are some aspects of it that must be done without magic so as to ensure the safety of cedric mentally and not just physically. she explains to them every step, including parts of her own transition that are beneficial as well as markings of the underlying dysphoria that can never be “ magically fixed ”, no matter what. rolanda is there with him through the entire process. they bond over flying, and she is the one that gets him into quidditch. sure, his dad often urged him to prepare for making his house team, but it was rolanda who really struck the passion in him and helped him see that this was a new time, and he was very much capable of both being himself and playing quidditch. she snuffed out the fear. he’ll never forget it. 

by sixth year, cedric is, for the most part, comfortable in his body. he has his days where it’s a bit harder than others to see himself naked or where he fears he ISN’T passing well enough. he still has anxiety regarding his height, and every now and again, he even fears his parents miss what they wanted him to be, but most days, he can look in the mirror now and not feel like crawling out of his skin. he still isn’t out to anyone because he doesn’t feel the need to divulge that information to just anyone, and no one has ever seemed too interested in such personal things either. the people he’s dated were never anything long - term much less physical, and he always felt that such superficial things were not worth the deeply personal conversation. but he’s comfortable. his mother and father are supportive. he has someone nearby at all times that understands his struggle. and he’s happy. cedric diggory is happy.

FIELD RESEARCH , if you will , a way of knowing the general outcomes of both dreams and nightmares following the type of FLASH WAR they were subjected to. culminated and completed in half the time the first war took place , cedric wonders if there trauma wasn’t worse just because of the whiplash that came with it . . . and the survival rate as well. it’s hard to be numb when you see every scar. ❛  or - did you have to compromise ?  ❜

❛  a lot was asked of us. no one can deny that.  ❜ and much was taken from them , much more than most of them had been willing to give , more than they should have had to give. and it is a sobering thing , each and every time cedric allows himself to think about it , a beating in his temple , a lump formed in this throat. we won we won we won ! y tu mama ? and then the guilt would fall into place , right where it belongs , wrapped around his shoulders like a warm quilt. or a suit of chain. ❛  but what could we ever ask for in return that would make up for it ?  ❜

❛  my dad wants me to stay at the ministry.   ❜ which more or less gives way —or gives away— to his current line of thought. disjointed thoughts , disorienting thoughts , many about leaving and so many more about never coming back. each day , what his father wants becomes less and less IMPORTANT , and while , to an extent , cedric would say that it’s supposed to be this way , a large part of him —the scared part , the part that fought for his father’s approval— tells him that it can never be. ❛  he means well , but — well , i dunno. i guess i’m not entirely sure that’s what i’m trying to do here.   ❜

i also realize i need to write about it here because it’s not as easy to put together with ced on his own blog but rolanda hooch, a trans woman of color, being his mentor and his confidante is so important here. and pomona being her friend and knowing her story and being able to connect her and cedric is so damn crucial to his entire transition and how seamless it is within hogwarts, and i keep stopping the big hc to spurt small things, but i’m just. i love him. i love his journey. and fuck i love myself rn because we Did That.

nevertheless, i would like everyone to know just how fucking stressful it was for cedric to have his dad so… PRESENT throughout the tournament. harry in the tournament had amos diggory on one the entire time, and it was exhausting. so yes, sometimes cedric shut down and said little so he didn’t lash out or snap on someone undeserving. like yeah, amos loves his son, and cedric loves the support, but amos has always been over the top due to him thinking he needs to oversell cedric’s “masculinity” or “manliness” as the cis men call it, right? and cedric struggles under the boot of that so damn much, but what can he say to his father that he hasn’t already said? under the stress the tourney is already causing? not much.
