12th March - Facebook engineering office trip in London
This place was awesome, modern and highly developed. We were only given a bit of time to look at the office from the inside, but I was 100% satisfied. There were a lot of exciting posters and drawings on the walls as well as many different rooms to relax and entertain during the free time. I managed to penetrate into the working atmosphere where people are creating new projects.
Honestly, this was an amazing experience and a great opportunity to see the workplace from the inside. Everyone was very friendly and polite. This place gives a chance to everyone to develop their personal and technical skills. I would love to go back there again.

Interactivity
Interactivity - this is the new topic that we have covered during the seminar on the 5th March. “Rafferty sees interactivity as a form of control exercised by an audience that is unable or unwilling to submit to an artist.”
During the class on Tuesday we have talked about different types of interactive media including films, TV, artworks, digital works and more.. We also watched a few movie trailers to get the idea of how does the interaction comes through the films. In this session we spent a lots of time on listening the concept about different forms of interactivity which was more theoretical than practical.
From my point of view, the second part of the class presentation was more impressive, mainly because it was more about digital interaction with different type of machines such as “Ken Feingold, Head” which seemed for me quite funny and a little bit silly. For the reason, because this computer-controlled head was replying incorrectly to the main questions that the interviewer was trying to ask. Additionally, we have looked at the second programmed machine, with the name “Maria” which was, by far, more intellectual. This smart machine was able to have a live conversation with people. The users only required to select the optional question on the touch screen in order to ask her something.

What do we understand by liveness?
On Tuesday 26th February we discussed the topic of “Liveness”. From the presentation that we listened to, I understood that “Liveness” is the effect of mediatization – not the other way around. Auslander, states in his book that recording technologies is what enables liveness today as there was no such thing as a live performance before. We’ve looked today at the image of the ancient Greek theater as an example of liveness and we came up to the conclusion that it wasn't live as there was no possibility of recording it. Auslander, p. 56. As a good example of liveness we also mentioned live broadcasts.
Honestly, out of all the slides that we have seen today, I was more into the topic about live connections and interactions with non-human agents (bots). People chat online daily with customer service and believe that this is live, even though there is a good chance that the recipient is not a human. It’s showing how much humanity has advanced in terms of technologies. At the same time, people can experience everything live, even if they are not alive, as long as they believe that bots are interacting with them in real time.
My own impression of this topic was more educational as well as it was highly informative and interesting in terms of self-development.

Alternative Wikipedia Assignment (20%)
In the week 16, we had a lecture with Stefan Lutschinger. He showed us Wikipedia platform as an alternative method for our Blog Assignment. The idea and overall impression was perfect as I was able to register myself on Wikipedia and have a try to create my blog page in there. By now, hopefully, I have a new digital skill of working in Wikipedia. Moreover, we talked about Wikidata which is a free linked database of knowledge that can be read and edited by both humans and machines. Wikidata became quite popular nowadays as it acts as central storage for the structured data including Wikipedia, Wikivoyage, Wikisource, and others. From my point of view, it was very useful learning experience. For those people, who is really interested in Wikidata, I'll add a few links of Wikipedia Assignments Examples which you can check later:

Tuesday’s class, in week 15, were more entertaining as we were engaged of watching one hour video on YouTube about relationships between Facebook and Cambridge Analytica. This video gave me the opportunity to learn more about Facebook pixels that in general has changed the whole structure and sense of social networks. Moreover, we had a bit of discussion about the details tracking in social media platforms such as Facebook which leads to some sort of digital dictatorship. After this class, our lecturer gave us some sort of reading related to this particular topic. Personally, I think it’s very useful and informative, especially if I’m going to use it for my final essay.

Daniel Rowles - Digital Branding
From the reading of Daniel Rowles, I have learned that branding is something more than visual identity as well as it has been fundamentally changed because of digital media. The communication with digital media doesn’t involve the brand anymore as it’s now directly between consumers. The search, social media and mobile are really impacting our target audience’s perceptions as well as impacting their likelihood of buying particular brand products! This reading gave me some sort of idea that everything around us is digital!
What digital branding really means?
“A traditional view of branding says that a brand is: “Name, term, design, symbol, or any other feature that identifies one seller’s goodor service as distinct from those of other sellers” (AMA, 2017). Basically, the brand is the personality of something where the digital media gives us the ability and opportunity to understand the true personality of something.” Daniel Rowles

Week 10 - Games and Gender
Today was our 10th seminar where we discussed the topic of computer games and gender. We also managed to watch a lot of YouTube videos related to the various computer games such as Lara Croft, Gears of War, GTA 5, Mortal Kombat and even old school games: Custers Revenge (1992) and Chess for girls. These last two were quite funny for nowadays audience. However, each of these games tried to convey to us the idea that woman's in the computer games are playing the role of decorations and I perhaps will agree with that. In addition, we’ve tried to compare and look deeply into two types of computer games (one for boys and one for girls) from which we made a conclusion that boyish computer games are more about fighting outside, when the girlish only have their domestic, social and interactive space in a game. This also proves the fact that the audience of men playing computer games is much higher than the woman. By our tradition, the seminar did not go without an online interview where we were able to listen the clever speech of professional computer game developers, which, in turn, confirmed the fact that girls in many respects are still acting as a decoration of the virtual world. Giving examples in the interview we understood that many of these girls are semi-nude beauties playing the role of prostitutes and strippers in the game. In my opinion, this topic was very cognition in terms of ideas for a possible essay as well as I’ve received some very useful handouts about computer and video game industry. I may give my preference to this topic or take it as an example for my essay.

Week 9 - Digital Natives
Today's seminar we began with the Quiz in order to identify what’s the digital natives are. For that we have used the new app called “Mentimeter.”
“Mentimeter is the eponymous app used to create presentations with real-time feedback.”
The main class presentation was dedicated to the topic of digital spaces where we have talked about various virtual computer games that eventually led people to suicide. As example we have used the game “Blue Whale”. That’s a social media group which is encouraging people to kill themselves. The group administrator assigns daily tasks to members, which they have to complete over 50 days. As a result, on the 50th day, the controlling manipulators behind the game reportedly instruct the youngsters to commit suicide. This lesson made me realize that there are so many strangers on the Internet.
Moreover, today we watched a couple of informative and entertaining videos on YouTube related to the virtual world “Habbo” as well as we have seen the interview about the negative impacts of this game.

Week 5 - Locative Media
Today’s seminar was very interactive. Aside of the regular presentation that the teacher prepared for us, we had a task to download the app, called “Geocaching”, on our phones in order to follow the indicated routes. I was able to experience the world threw as it was an amazing exercise of information space. During the hike, me and my team mates were using Global Positioning System on our devices in order to find a seek containers, called “geocaches”. All of these specific locations are marked by coordinates all over the world. This task reminded me of a physical adventure game in which players solve a series of riddles. I recommend everyone to download this app and try it.

Week 4 Slides -Encoding/Decoding & Medium is the Message
In today's class we discussed the topic of Encoding and Decoding. We also analyzed the Encoding/Decoding theory model after which we had an attentiveness exercise. Our task was to recognize two different images pictured on the same paper. There is an example of it: What can you see?
