Are you 🫵 pissed off about the Lilo and Stitch monstrosity remake? Do you want to know how you can actually make a difference in supporting the people and ecosystems of Hawaii?

Tourism is a big issue in Hawaii (which the remake got rid of the original's commentary on because it makes foreigners look bad). I'm not gonna promote it, BUT I know that realistically, thousands of people arrive here every single day by the airplane-ful. And the majority of them aren't educated on the socio-cultural and economic impacts of tourism. SO, I'm making this post in an effort to educate visitors. If you or someone you know is visiting or moving to Hawaii (whether by circumstances in or out of your control), here are some suggestions on how you can give back!

You can donate to the Hawaii Community Foundation, which has been instrumental in giving aid to the displaced community of Lahaina after the Maui wildfires in 2023. They also provide scholarships to students of under-represented communities.

If you're interested in visiting Kualoa Ranch, you can do their Mālama Experience where you get your hands dirty giving back to the ‘āina (land)!

There are other organizations you can join to volunteer with, too, like Kupu and Mālama Maunalua. Check them out; maybe you can help with a beach cleanup or plant native trees! These are both non-profit organizations that accept monetary donations.

Visit the Bishop Museum to learn about Hawaiian history and culture! They also have events focused on sustainability and conservation.

If you're visiting Hilo on the Big Island, go visit the Laulima Nature Center! They're a non-profit aimed at protecting Hawaii's native species, and they even have an online store that ships to the US mainland and internationally! (After I post this, I'm gonna head on over and get myself a manu o Kū pin ♡)

A few other tips I have:

DO: Respect the locals' homes. Several beaches and hiking trails have access points in residential areas. Please be mindful to keep your voices down when passing by, and park ONLY in designated parking areas.

DO: Wear reef-safe sunscreen! Sunscreens containing oxybenzone and octinoxate are banned in Hawaii because they are known to damage coral reefs.

DON'T: Approach wildlife, particularly honu (sea turtles) and 'īlio holo i ka uaua (Hawaiian monk seals). Stay at least 10 feet (3 meters) away from turtles and at least 50 feet (15 meters) away from monk seals. If you see someone harassing animals, report them to the statewide NOAA Marine Wildlife Hotline: (888) 256-9840. You can also contact the Hawaii State Department of Land and Natural Resources.

DON'T: Collect sand, rocks, or other natural items to bring home with you. This is to protect the ecosystems and also out of respect for Kānaka Maoli (Native Hawaiians), who have cultural beliefs regarding lava rocks in particular. Taking lava rocks is extremely disrespectful.

DON'T: Litter! Please throw away your waste in proper trash cans. If you see a bin that says "ʻōpala," that's a trash can!

Many Kānaka Maoli (Native Hawaiians) are moving to the US mainland because the cost of living in Hawaii has been driven up so high (because of people moving here), they can't afford to live in their ancestral home. So, if you are going to visit or move to Hawaii, please:

- Make the effort to support local businesses, especially those owned by Native Hawaiians!

- Educate yourself and your loved ones about actual Hawaiian culture!

- Try Hawaiian food, like poi!

- Learn some Hawaiian words and don't be afraid to ask how to pronounce words correctly!

- Donate to a food bank!

- Watch films and read books written by Native Hawaiians!

My hope is that whoever sees this post will use it to educate themselves, their friends, and their families who are considering visiting.

My background is in sustainability and the environment, so that's what I know to suggest off the top of my head. If any Kānaka Maoli read this post and have suggestions to add, please do!

hey everyone I'm happy to introduce to you

Frenglish differences in miraculous

which is a series where I'll be highlighting the differences between the French and English dubs of the wonderful show that is Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir.

I've always watched the show in its original language and I really recommend doing so but I recognise that it isn't necessarily doable depending on the subtitles people have available to them and the fact that they might be based on the alternate dub rather than a translation of what is said in French, so I thought I'd do this as a way to both show the differences and the things that people might miss, as well as sharing some interesting facts I've noticed! I'll be making one post per episode, with for each notable difference what is said in English, what is said in French with my translation and sometimes a little comment from yours truly 😌.

I'll have to make a few disclaimers as I always do with these things so here are the main ones:

I have done this (rewatching and recording the differences) a looong time ago so I might have changed my opinion on a few things since then, although I'll try to go over and correct if really needed

I didn't actually watch it in English (sorry I really don't like watching dubs) but I instead used the subtitles available on Disney+ which seemed to be an accurate transcription of the dub. however if I've made any mistake feel free to point it out! it also means that I only focus on the text and not the delivery of the lines

I kept the translation of the original french voice acting quite literal and I am in no way competent in linguistics (women in STEM 🫡)

I've only done this for season 1, as I believe fandubs are available for the further seasons but if people are interested I might do the other ones, however I don't have access to legal streaming services with subtitles anymore so it might be a bit more complex for me

I'm not pointing out every single difference because some are uninteresting or just due to simple language differences, but only the ones I personally found interesting/relevant

I didn't include things that happen in every episode (aka the theme song or transformation phrases), but I might do a separate post for them if anyone's interested

I haven't watched the episode, didn't even know there were new episodes releasing these days, then a celebratory clip appears on my feed and this was literally my reaction

I spotted interesting thing:

When people post analyses of "Chat Blanc" and its aftermarth, most usually Bunnyx isn't mentioned even once.

This is rather ironic, given that Bunnyx is one of three most important characters of the episode (alongside Ladybug & Chat Blanc)

Also, one thing. Marinette salters like to claim that "Ladybug wasn't traumatized by Chat Blanc". They're somewhat right... and completely wrong.

That's because Ladybug wasn't traumatized by Chat Blanc himself (since he is "Adrien from Alternate universe", there is no connection between them), but by what Bunnyx told to her afterwards.

Like, she could mention True reason why Chat Blanc was Akumatized or not, and just say "Thanks for the help, Ladybug", and each of them would go separate ways. Instead, she decided to straight-up lie, and say "Your love caused this", which caused Marinette to take this personally and believe that she was one responsible.

This resulted in awful situation, where Marinette "protects the World" from danger that don't exist and will never appear... except Bunnyx herself (because among information that Marinette hides from everyone, is information that Bunnyx exists at all)

P.S. Obviously, I meant Adult!Bunnyx, in whole ask

I completely agree. It's one of my many issues with the episode. This dialogue was terrible!

Bunnyx: Do you know how Cat Noir found out about your secret identity? Ladybug:��I think so. When I went into Adrien's house as Ladybug, he probably saw me. He figured out that Ladybug is Marinette because of the note written on the gift. But I'm not sure what happened next. Bunnyx: He probably told his friend Nino, who told Alya, who wrote about it on the Ladyblog. Ladybug: Mm.. They would never do that. But Adrien probably told someone, who told someone else, and so on, until it was all over the news! The best-kept secrets are the ones you never share.

In a better show, Bunnyx would have told Marinette that this was all just a matter of poor timing, reassuring Marinette that she doesn't need to be terrified of identity reveals. She just needs to be smart about them.

But we can't have that because that would give Marinette a reason to be more open with Chat Noir and the show has a rule that Marinette and Adrien must always have a secret between them so everything will be written to keep their relationship surface level no matter how much it poisons the show.

One of my least favorite takes about Adrien is that he needs to figure out who he is, or that Cat Noir is him "overcompensating". Adrien has always worn his love for Ladybug on his sleeve, and has never been particularly quiet about how her leadership is bothering him. The first thing we ever see him do, chronologically, is run away from home and go to school regardless of what his dad has to say about it. In Simon Says, he went so far as to yell at Gabriel. Adrien, at least in S1-3, has never been depicted as someone who needed to figure out anything about who he is. He was depicted as someone who needed to be firm about who he is, stand his ground and resist the urge to backpedal or fold like tissue paper just because someone had a different opinion.

And this ties into the Cat Noir thing because Cat Noir represents Adrien's agency. It's where he's the most free to express himself. "Cat Noir is a façade" smacks of taking one of the most positive things in Adrien's life and using it as yet another vector for angst, because God forbid we do anything else with this character.

I agree with this, despite some things *cough* rings I need answers *cough* this episode was th first one I genuinely enjoyed of season 6 from start to finish (skipped part of the fight tho just eh) because Adrien got screen time and expressions finally, plagg my beloved appeared, marinette showed support, and we got some plot progression

I know all of these were due to plagg lol but I’m glad they’re letting my boy be over the top goofy again in his civilian form ‼️

Real Adrien heads know he was always silly lol, but a lot of his little mannerisms and expressions that were more prevalent when rewatching season one got covered up with blank faced Adrien sweetness in later seasons and, while it did help further emphasis the control Gabriel had over him (wink wink), and the thousand yard soft eyes stare is still very Adrien, I’m glad he’s back to letting his goofy ass self shine through!! he is cringe fail like his gf and they are showing it again bless up 🫶

(While we’re on the topic though, I also hope a lot of his sarcasm and wit that he had back then comes back as well! He was a diva in season one let us see that again!!)

I really hope they come out with a Felix episode where the flashback shows him switching them out and telling marinette later, its the only way I can see it making sense that tiny hesitation then oof it's okay Felix switched them. Hes the person who knows the most about their importance whilst being closest to adrien so, also being Argos and all maybe he can sense them or something. Maybe because when adrien keeps them (as he should) he should know their importance. Like following how he acted about it, it makes more sense for him and kagami to do something about it at least instead of just letting it slide

That would have been really cool, dunno how it'd work but since tikky and plagg cat mix by themselves since they're the main ones then it could make sense, but they'd need to have set up their partnership as unbreakable. I don't even go as far as a reveal it could have worked without one even

Another thing I learned about when studying animation was the phrase "kill your darlings". Basically, no matter how how much you love an idea or how amazing it might be in isolation, if it doesn't make sense for the project you're working on, you have to "kill it" (aka scrap it).

And that is literally what Bug Noire is to me. As a concept it's amazing and I totally get the appeal and why they would want to include it in the show, but it had literally NO place in the Agreste arc, ESPECIALLY the finale. THAT is why I hate Bug Noire so much, despite me WANTING to love it.
