am I fraud because my cal goal is so high compared to everyone elses and im big and i actually love food which is the fucking problem i feel so awful when it comes to food and my body and like how do i have a fucking ed and still a shit body and nothing to show for it or do i even get to say that i have an ed im sorry that im even bothering you with this but i dont have anyone else to talk to about this and i feel like a fucking phony
Cal goals are very relative. You can lose on anything below your personal maintenance. Comparing yourself to others won't help you with anything!
I started at a high weight, I was in the 200s and previously wore a 3x. I'm a medium now and have lost over 100lbs.
Food is good. It's normal to enjoy food. I recommend enjoying food and picking foods you actually like. Healthy foods aren't gross. Being able to cook and season and enjoy food is actually a boon in weight loss. I love my cultural foods and my husband's cultural foods, I love cooking. I went into dietetics for a reason. Food science and health are interesting!
Weight loss takes a long time. Disordered eating is an inherited OCD type. You're not doing it wrong.

Oh yeah dw this isn't my first rodeo. Backup is @remnantangelic and I'm setting up an EDSF under the same user as this blog.

Hi, is keto actually good for losing weight/fat?
My mom is putting me on a keto diet to hopefully help with my cravings that often result to my b1nges and stuff. (She’s aware of my 3 d and just trying to help!)
Since a lot of the food in keto is all about high fat I’m a little scared that I’ll gain weight super easily.
Do you think it will be harder to become leaner when on keto?
Keto has very specific use cases. I would not call preventing binge eating one of those use cases. BED is not caused by cravings, it's OCD. It's compulsive behavior coupled with addiction. Sure you could argue it may assist with sugar addiction, but any diet will do that.
Please get the book Brain Over Binge, the workbook that goes with it, and the New Harbinger DBT and CBT workbooks. Talk to your doctor about screening you for OCD, BED, and ADHD. When it comes to medications, I like Strattera over a stimulant because it treats more broadly and doesn't require monitoring.
Fat doesn't make you fat. Calories do. If you want to lose weight, you have to eat less than you burn. Scroll through my blog to find how to calculate that.

what would you recommend as the best “fitness” watch? looking to splurge on myself and i can’t decide on which one to get
I have a Garmin Venu 3, I think? It constantly monitors heart rate without a "measuring" lag like Apple and can take ECGs which is good for me to share with my dysautonomia provider. It also looks more like a normal watch than most other smart watches.
I didn't pay for mine, I used my FSA for it (so like I sort of paid for it but it's pre tax and I don't think about it).

I keep repeatedly told by my sister that a calorie deficit is unhealthy and that I should lose weight by exercise only and practically everyone in the house assumes I'm losing weight too quickly(I'm still far from my gw) I've been trying to eat higher volume foods to try to reassure them but it doesn't work. Should I just try to lose weight by exercise? It feels unsustainable without changing my diet.
Exercise is a roundabout way to create a calorie deficit and is a very poor way to do so. Exercise doesn't burn very much. Weight loss is mostly diet, we say about 80% diet and 20% exercise. I personally barely exercise due to disability. I try but it's not much.
It's pretty unsustainable to try to lose through exercise alone. You could try! It would be very hard. You would need to keep up that level of activity and still track your calories and be extremely meticulous. Genuinely more meticulous than just eating in a small deficit.
Consider a smaller deficit and exercising. Aim to lose around half a pound or a pound a week and aim for the American Heart Association's exercise recommended activity level per week, it's on the slow end but it should keep your family off your back.
People always want to sabotage hard work. It's jealousy and misunderstanding. People love to believe myths.

I have a question! People talk about metabolism/cheat days, and do you think they do anything? If they do, how frequently should they be done? Like, I'm fairly sure they shouldn't be, since it sounds unlikely to do anything, but I'm curious if there's some other benefit I don't see (be it psychological, physical, good for convincing other people you don't have a problem, wtv).
Also this is more of a curiosity than a genuine question, but if I spitball and say someone has a maintenance of 2k calories, and they eat super high above that, like think 10k somehow-- will they gain rapid weight after that? Or will most of it just get shat out?
Metabolism days don't do anything, your metabolism constantly burns at roughly the same rate based on your body composition and activity. Your activity doesn't contribute much. Those burn a thousand calorie workouts are lying. Your activity tracker is lying.
They're fine for clearing out your colon! They "work" because you guys don't eat enough fiber on the reg, take a larger shit than usual, and balance your electrolytes with some real food, and then you've dropped five pounds of waste and water weight the next day.
If you eat in an appropriate deficit and recalculate your deficit often (every five pounds I say, just to be safe), there's no real need for them if you're also drinking enough water and eating enough fiber.
If someone with a TDEE of 2k ate 10k in one day, they could potentially gain a couple of pounds, presuming they don't balance it out throughout the rest of their week, yes.

I saw in an earlier post that you said liquid fasts are safer than regular fasting. Is there a reason fasting could be dangerous?
Water only fasting is stupid because it puts too much pressure on your kidneys, among other things. You're just flushing them constantly without giving them any electrolytes. It can also cause hypoglycemic episodes. You can have the same weight loss as a water fast by doing a liquid fast without stressing your body so much. Look up bariatric pre and post surgery liquid diets and follow those. I recommend protein shakes with coffee, egg drop soup made with bone broth, unsweetened applesauce, tomato soup, Activia yogurt or kefir, and consider chia puddings or metamucil for fiber.

I IP blocked this clown because they sent me a second also hilarious ask that said "well hopefully we will get more staunch fat liberationists getting into your fatphobia laden field to counteract the harmful bs you all spew"
What are the fatties being liberated from girl? Physics? Basic math? You really love pretending to be leftists and then go on upholding capitalism by constantly taking more than your share, over consuming food, begging for more ugly fucking clothes, tearing down other people, and purposely disabling yourselves. You will not do shit in a real revolution. There is no glory or leftism in being obese on purpose. You are not a savior for being fat. You are not a better person because you're fat. You are lying about the origins of your movement and cherrypicking science and fearmongering. You are not a poor child with no nutrition education in a food desert. You're a white woman who works a desk job and has the internet at her fingertips. Learn to cook a carrot dumbass.
a fatphobic bigot going to become a dietician... fucking terrifying holy shit
I've responded to this before but it's a joke based on reactionaries like yourself. Consider having real problems.

How do you feel about body fat calculators like covert bailey or the US Navy one? I don't have the disposable cash to justify a body fat scale rn and I take all of my body measurements anyway. I typically use covert bailey since it seems to sit closer to what the body fat percentage range is for my bmi.
Just curious what your opinion was.
Taping is less accurate than a scale or scan. Scales that measure body fat accurately are only about $35. You can definitely tape or caliper for the time being and save up.

ive been at this rodeo 19 years at this point and i never had the courage to ask this to anyone so do you happen to have an idea to why i throw up so easily like without my hands or randomly while brushing my teeth even though i havent touched my uvula. how do i stop that pls. am i now forever f****** by my m1a years??
That's likely rumination. Really common after effect of chronic vomiting. There's no medication for it but sometimes eating slowly with chopsticks and doing breathing exercises to retrain your diaphragm and stop your body from doing it during the period when it would regurgitate helps. It doesn't cure everyone. I would talk to a psych and a gastroenterologist about it.

my gymbro brother keeps saying how me experimenting with protein powder as a teen is gonna make me fat and hes really insistent on it. Even tho logically it doesnt make sense because im restricting im just trying not to lose too much muscle doing that.
Tldr do protein powders effect your body in some way to cause weight gain?
Your brother's a fucking moron, respectfully. It's protein. That doesn't make any sense and I can't even imagine what someone told him that he's trying to convey to you, but gymbros love to believe actually fucking insane myths.
You need 1g per kg of body weight protein per day through moderate activity (basically if you aren't literally training for a marathon or powerlifting). Protein powders are concentrated milk protein or bean protein, typically. Some dieticians consider them a whole food. If you're under or at your maintenance calories, there's quite literally zero way they will make you fat.
Too much protein consumption from any source can be taxing on the kidneys, but that's a very long term problem and we see it more with gymbro types.
If you want to know more about exercise science from someone who isn't as mentally deficient as your sibling, I love the podcast and website Stronger by Science, it's run by a guy with a PhD in kinesiology, the study of exercise on human biology.

i got my wisdom teeth removed recently and haven’t been able to eat a lot, causing me to lose 15+ lbs in less than two weeks. however, it made me feel like shit bc i have pots and adrenal insufficiency. all i lost was muscle, not fat. how do i gain more muscle and healthily lose fat?
That's not really how the body works, even with rapid weight loss the majority of what you lose is always fat tissue. There can be some accelerated muscle loss, and if you were in an active adrenal crash or not taking your medication, sure some muscle wasting may occur, but assuming you're not in my inbox dying of Addison's right now, the weight you've lost was just like any other weight -- mostly fat and some muscle to compensate for any protein you're not eating.
To gain muscle, you need to do resistance training and eat protein. 1g per kg of body weight (or per pound of lean mass if you're an athlete). As someone else with POTS, I like Pilates for full body, low impact resistance training. It will take a long time. Muscle growth is very slow, so you have to be consistent with it.
To lose weight at a healthy rate, you can look at one of the many asks I've answered detailing this. The scale I recommend, how to use Sailrabbit, trackers, loss rate, etc etc.
