job hunt be like

25% studying, 25% wondering if I actually want to do software engineering, 25% aimlessly roaming the internet, 25% pondering the logistics of living and working on an organic farm and raising alpacas

had a dream last night that my alarm was connected to twitter and everytime i hit snooze it publicly tweeted it with a disparaging little message along the lines of “filthy horrible boy has slapped the screen again, and slumbers on” so that your followers could shame you and i was deeply, DEEPLY humiliated but that did not stop me from hitting snooze upwards of 14 times

Spent 10 minutes debugging my leetcode solution only to realize I had gotten left and right confused, so that’s how my day is going.

crazy to think that I made this blog when I was a junior in college taking basically my first programming class

its like a time capsule

but also I feel old now

scavenger hunt ideas for your codebase:

oldest //TODO

//TODO left by someone who is no longer at the company

code written by senior leadership while they were an IC (bonus points for c-suite!)

code that needs a paragraph long comment to explain what it does

code that has a sentence long comment along the lines of "this is magic, do not touch"

code that is self aware of how bad it is (eg: variable named "doHackyWorkaroud")

most used param / function that has a typo

what would y'all add :P

i'm dead convinced that the single most important skill for a software engineer at a big company is knowing how to search the codebase for examples of other people doing something similar to what you're trying to do
