This advent 2 friends exchanged 30 samples of whiskies from their collection for the other to blind as a sort of advent calander. This post will keep track of the blinds, reviewing and ranking the pours and guess whats in it, and at the end reveal the final rankings and what each pour was.

DAY XMAS: Connor
Nose: Church wine and cranberry sauce. Maybe a bit nutty.
Palate: Proofy..?? Peppery and woody but also velvety? Oddly enough, I get a spiced Christmasy fruit cake. maybe There’s no rye in this?
Finish: Very drying, old grape, ryeeeeeeee, Canadian finished? Nope. I got this.

Color: light amber
Nose: wood perfume, a faint hint of grass, green apple
Palate: NUT, peanut butter fudge, white chocolate
Finish: fair bit of barrel spice on the end that goes into the bubble gum territory
Final Thoughts: Could be old tub, could be EWSiB. I think EWSiB has more of a white chocolate note than Old Tub
Proof Guess: 86

Color: light amber
Nose: wood perfume and ethanol, faint hint of a dark chocolate cherry note, grass clippings
Palate: is this willet? grass clippings and off gin, pines both apple and needle
Finish: fairly proofy and medium viscocity,
Final Thoughts: I don't wanna finish a one ounce pour of this, and I happily polished off yesterdays, I have to put this in F for me personally but I could see why someone else would like this

Color: amber
Nose: Cherry and tobacco, maybe clove and chiccory coffee and a hint of brightness? very complex
Palate: Bitterness dances around an insanely complex evolving experience. Chiccory coffee and cherry and very present, mild herbal notes, savory leather and wood oil perfume
Finish: deceptively proofy, medium viscocity. tobacco, barrel spice, and proof play it out excellently. The very end is like a real earthy cinnamon
Final Thoughts: Clear S teir, I could drink this all day and get something else out of it every sip. Its got a scotchy edge to it but its clearly a bourbon, WIlD shit

Color: amber
Nose: Cherry bliss, OWA, deep molasses
Palate: HEAVY barrel spice and sweetness in an immediate blitz. its honestly a bit much but not unplesant at all. Coffee
Finish: really proofy, medium viscocity, tobacco and a bit of metal comes out on the end.
Final Thoughts: This is really challanging and complex, I feel like its hard to evaluate it on only 1 ounce.
Proof Guess: 127

Color: light amber
Nose: Cherry bliss, OWA, sweet and deep and bright
Palate: There is more cherry on the nose than on the pallet, and a strange sourness? The barrel spice on the end is actually really nice, its complex.
Finish: medium viscosity, sweetness leaves for barrel spice but funk pervades, its pretty great
Final Thoughts: really high B. I actually think it might be WSR, but its tough. Solid chance it isn't BT at all. I don’t have a 20 to place in my picture lmao
Proof Guess: 90

Color: lighter amber
Nose: mushroom, bandaid, alcohol, hot metal
Palate: Strangely sweet given the nose, zero smoke but a metallic funk is present. White sugar on stainless steel with barley
Finish: pretty thin, not very long. all the grain is on the finish. lemon pith
Final Thoughts: Its almost too sweet to be a scotch, but its got that scotchy vibe? Honestly reminds me of Johnnie high rye but worse and proofier
Proof Guess: 98

Color: light amber
Nose: Vanilla powdered sugar ethanol, cherry jam, cinnamon, maybe a wheaty funk
Palate: Spicy boi! But not a rye, clearly wheaty notes and cinnamon and PROOF. Cinnamon and cherry in spades
Finish: Pretty hot, pretty viscous, sweet and plesant.
Final Thoughts: Really nice! Its gotta be wheat, I think its a makers pick

Color: Golden Amber
Nose: Graple jelly and vanilla bean.
Palate: Strawberry, fig, brown sugar, raisin. Beginning to think it’s finished…I was overly confident on the nose, but i’m beginning to second guess myself. It is DAMN good whatever it is.
Finish: Novocaine-y, slight menthol, sweet oak and milk chocolate. FUCK IT. I’m all in. If it’s Phifer Pavitt, I commit a crime.

Color: Dark Amber
Nose: Boiled chicken wings, brown sugar, and animal crackers.
Palate: Sweet, funky, plum. Can’t tell if it’s Proofy or spicy, but definitely tasty.
Finish: The spice or proof carries through nicely as pecan and maple syrup make an entrance. Very interesting and even great.

Day 22: Connor
Color: Palest of Straw
Nose: incredibly nutty, like a pay day bar. Burnt caramel and a really nice underlying marshmallow can be found upon searching.
Palate: Thin, cornbread liquified dusted with powdered sugar. A bit hot but the orange Mike & Ike comes onto the scene. This is a weird one.
Finish: Warming, even biting as the sweetness of the palate seems to surround some white pepper.

Color: Golden Honey
Nose: Cinnamon buns with ample icing. Fresh cut red apples.
Palate: Like yesterday but cranked up a few notches. More nuance in the best way. Some sweet artificial cherry and cinnamon still. still a bit thin, but somewhat creamy.
Finish: Waffle cone and cinnamon sugar. Slightly drying, which makes me think proof. Pretty damn great, IMO.

DAY 20: Connor
Color: Pale Straw
Nose: the PINKEST bubblegum, banana, pina polada with extra whipped cream. Just an off the chart sweetness.
Palate: Sweet and sugary holds through with bubblegum leading the way to confectionary sugar. Maybe a little bit of wild Berry, as the sweet is ever so slightly high pitched to make it noticeable.
Finish: zero astringency, but very light and airy, like puff pastry with vanilla and berry. Proof: 95-100

DAY 19: Connor (I didn’t take many notes)
Nose: Easy but terrific vanilla and carmelized banana.
Palate: Bright, a bit soft but very relaxed and tame. Vanilla banana comes back but more like a creme brulee or pudding. Wafer could even be here. Not deep flavors, but airy and soft. Maybe a LITTLE raspberry.
Finish: a bit spicy but in a peppery way. Short finish. nothing to hate here, but not much to adore? Could be an easy shelf staple if the price is right.

DAY 18: Connor
Color: Amber
Nose: Decadent. Desserty. Chocolate chip cookies with caramel. Oooo Mama?
Palate: Sweet and easy. Simple. A bit flat and less rich compared to what the palate let on. Vanilla, red fruit jam, and some root beer.
Finish: quite easy and inoffensive. More of that root beer but maybe a brown sugar simple syrup infused variant? Noting about this is unpleasant, it’s just a bit simple.

Color: Pale Honey
Nose: Sweet & Simple. Slight alcohol and nuttiness with a bit of chocolate. Young corn.
Palate: A bit flat and tame, but not in a bad way. just kind of sweet & inoffensive. Getting sweet breads, vanilla, and maybe an intensely red sundae cherry.
Finish: a bit peppery, but not black, cayenne. Sweet. Maybe a bit of honeyed toffee. This is bizarre.
