now that i'm thinking about it though, i kinda want to add td2023/2024 to the au outside of snapchat memes so maybe i'll write in some new lore for that--like maybe chris got so pissed at the producers for signing with don that he signed with a new company, dragged chef back from his teaching job, and got a new cast for td2023 (since he cant rope in the old cast) to run parallel to the race or something

everyone else is age-scaled anyway for the college theme of the au so i can see it, although in a way it's kinda sad cause i think the parent aus are really cute. def wouldn't have any cross-gen ships tho, even with the whole au aspect of it it would still feel weird

the larpers still being the first boot in symbiosis is sad, but at least we got to see them interact a bit more with the twins

speaking of, what do the others at wawanakwa university think of them?

aaa i know!! sadly the elimination order is the same as canon for the race because all the major interactions the twins have are with teams who make it past them in the game, with the twins still getting cut in finland--albeit for a very different reason that will be revealed later on.

they do end up with the misfits, much to noah's annoyance, but they would definitely become fast friends with people like harold, ella, and b because of their interest in fantasy/cosplay and the potential of harold or leonard running a university d&d campaign for anyone interested in the hobby.

while they'd also be harassed by some of the more 'dominant' personalities like duncan and jo from time to time, as well as some hazing from harold's STEM club friend ellody and his cousin mary with their negative view of the concept of 'magic,' they lay pretty low on the radar given their lack of notoriety in either season leonard was in. if anything, duncan's bullying and sugar's obsession with leonard are the main problems they face socially at Wawanakwa U.

did the twins watch the original total drama seasons? what were their favorites?

i finally got a little free time so let's answer some questions from the inbox! :D

the twins actually have not really seen any of total drama aside from the bits and pieces they've come across when they've had access to electronics in the hospital.

the reason is eluded to in my fic, Symbiosis, but to add onto it a little more, they didn't watch much total drama because of the legal situation with don and their mother that resulted in him losing the position as host of total drama island. while the twins ended up staying with their single mother, she didn't want them to watch the show because of the bad memories it brought up about her falling out with their father.

however, mickey is really interested in the show--especially after meeting owen, noah, and geoff during his time on the race, and would definitely watch it with the misfit crew if the opportunity came up. or he'd be more than happy to watch the seasons with just noah so he could bear witness to his witty and snarky recapping of the many colorful characters and challenges he went through himself during his time on the show.

(p.s. his favorite season would've been world tour)

jay, on the other hand, isn't interested in total drama and would only watch it if mickey really insisted. it reminds him of things he'd prefer to forget.

beyond the few scenes we got in canon, how would taylors (and maybe kellys) interactions with the twins and kitty go?

remind me to never color anything no matter how quickly and poorly cobbled together it is again

but anyway to answer your question, taylor does not like the twins at all. she doesn't explicitly hate them but she rolls with heather's clique and definitely harasses them when given the opportunity much like any other scrawny nerd unfortunate enough to be attending the university with her. not to mention their affiliation with noah and team e-scope puts them pretty high on the wanted list for people like her looking to get into heather and alejandro's good graces

jay also dislikes taylor quite a bit, he doesn't take anyone picking on his brother lightly despite being frail and pathetic himself and would be a petty, snarky bastard in any interaction he and taylor had by default, even if it's an argument he can't really win

mickey is just kinda scared of taylor, she's mean, she's loud, and she picks on him and his brother for their illnesses and adversities--as well as his other friends at the uni. he struggles to harbor negative feelings towards anyone for any prolonged amount of time, so dislike or hate would be strong words, but he would prefer to avoid her if given the chance

now kitty would square up the second taylor started talking shit about her boys, she already thinks taylor is a shallow person with no real personality outside of being rich, spoiled, and mean after the race so she wouldn't hesitate to pick a fight if she caught a bitch picking on her best friends. otherwise, like the twins, she wouldn't go out of her way to interact with taylor unless it was forced

as for kelly? since she's so much older and serves as more of an honorary staff member alongside former contestants like dwayne, pete, and gerry, the twins don't have much to say about her or many reasons to talk to her outside of passing. i feel like she'd be apologetic for taylor's behavior but not really do much about it, meanwhile any time jay gets too close to her he has an asthma attack because he's allergic to her perfume. they probably think she's fine though as a person, nice enough anyway

How do the twins feel about the goths?

i want to actually color this but it's been too long since i've posted anything so we're just gonna roll with what i've got tonight ;3;

the twins are pretty neutral with the goths, obviously the goths kinda freak them out and sneak up on them a lot without meaning to, but neither mickey nor jay have any strong opinions about them overall

however in context to Symbiosis, i think the goths would feel kinda bad about unintentionally scaring mickey off in the catacombs and him getting separated / lost as a result, so to make up for it they'd give him a goth makeup tutorial so he can embrace his inner darkness

on the other hand, jay isn't so sure about that

what would the twins and stepbrothers interactions be like?

so tbh i'm kinda mid about chet and lorenzo, i like basically every total drama character don't get me wrong--but considering that the twins never really interacted with the stepbros at all in canon, and the stepbros barely had any real interactions to take inspo from, my mind draws a blank on these guys creatively ;3;

but i still managed to whip this up for you! honestly the same joke kept ping-ponging around my head when i tried brainstorming so i just rolled with it and made this little clip from it

basically, considering the whole kangaroo incident later in the show, as well as some wild fanfiction i saw while checking some tags on ao3, i was like 'what if lorenzo was convinced that jay and mickey were girls and kept trying to hit on an uninterested and mildly offended jay whenever they had a flight together'

and that's the entire thought process in a nutshell

chet knows but hates lorenzo so he's not gonna tell him

which is why he also bet him 20 bucks that lorenzo couldn't get jay's number

mickey has no strong opinion since it doesn't really effect him but he finds it a little funny (don't tell jay)

idk man this one just had such a vibe, it's messy and rough as hell because i got really tired at the end and also had to rescale EVERYTHING last second cause the drawing-to-screen ratio was fucked up BUT i finished it and that's all that matters

definitely forgot some details that i see in hindsight but it's almost 3:30am i'm not fixing it rn ;-;

maybe i'll go back one day and make it nicer but i am quite lazy so who knows

what would happen if the twins met amy and sammy?

im so glad you asked :D

so in this universe, the adversity twins and the cheerleader twins actually dated in middle school/early high school before the adversity twins were actually out of the closet

it was less of a genuine relationship and more of a status symbol for amy, since 'twins dating twins' helped her win titles like prom/homecoming queen, as well as the fact that jay never actually liked amy all that much and him not wanting her made her want him to want her (even though she was more than happy to explore the 'freedom' of their somewhat platonic relationship by cheating on him with other guys)

that and it made the adversity twins' mom happy to see them in a relationship with all their poor luck and the bullying they otherwise received, which is why they stuck around as long as they did--minus amy's influence of course

jay hates amy's guts, she gets on his nerves any time they interact because after all this time she still wants him out of pettiness and an inability to accept that he really does not want her. even though they kinda hate each other, they still have a sort of toxic ex friendship going on where every so often they'll run into each other and talk about stuff and poke fun at the past--before eventually fighting about something and ignoring each other for a while. on the other hand, jay thinks sammy is fine and her friendship with mickey is the only reason he tolerates his ex

mickey and sammy are in a MUCH better place than their older siblings, having always been more like good friends than partners and staying on good terms even after their breakup. they don't talk super often anymore, but will text each other once in a while to catch up and share photos of things in their lives, cute guys, or just funny pictures they found online. mickey is lowkey terrified of amy and tries to avoid her when he can, as she was pretty cruel to both him and sammy when they were an item--one of the things that always royally pissed jay off

oh and jay broke up with amy right after she and sammy got back from their final elimination from TDPI, just to rub salt in the wound. also her chipped tooth is a throwback to her downfall on the show via sammy feeding her the manchineel, just for fun yk ^^

what are the dynamics between the twins and the sisters like?

so emma is a little more complicated, since she's only really close to noah and kitty, but kitty is 100% the twins' bestie hands down

if i wasn't sleep deprived and on the grind before christmas i'd draw more but basically it's like platonic mitty in a way?? mickey and kitty have zero romantic interest in each other but are both super physical people so before they find out that mickey is gay everyone thinks they're dating or have a thing for each other but they don't they're just super close

i.e. mickey and jay always share a bed since mickey gets night terrors and insomnia when trying to sleep alone and jay gets violent anxiety when he's away from his brother for too long without someone he trusts keeping an eye on him, so whenever jay is busy at night or hanging out with jacques, kitty will have sleepovers and cuddle with mickey to keep him company so he can sleep and his brother can relax

meanwhile jay is kinda broody and snarky but genuinely does end up seeing kitty as his best friend and someone he can actually trust (alongside cody) even though she pesters him with gross things like social interaction and a healthy perspective on mental health

tbh though i feel like jay, emma, and noah would be a terrible trinity of cynicism and sarcasm because all three of them are menaces to society and that is amazing to me
