"dating sim" being applied to any romantic vn is annoying in part because the "sim" part of "dating sim" is serious: it is a subgenre of sim game like farming sims, flight sims, raising sims, so on (and they're particularly close to raising sims in how they work) That is why they are called dating sims.

but also a lot of these vns have little to no dating. the "dating" part of "dating sim" is also serious. you go on dates in these games. that's why they're called dating sims.
