since everyone seems to be getting in on speculating about Jack based on that 5x05 episode title, here’s my 2 cents: I don’t know if it’s the most likely, but I think the most narratively satisfying resolution would be, yes, the military funeral in the previews is for him—but he’s not dead for real, it’s just the only way he can retire and live in anonymity if all his enemies believe he’s dead

MacGyver 4x10 Ending

It’s been a while, but recent comments make me want to revisit the ending scene of MacGyver 4x10 again. Beyond liveblogging it when it first aired and enjoying it for the Mac x Desi content, I really love the subtlety and representation in this scene. Aside from the universal, but also very Asian way of showing concern through food, what exactly Desi was making and how the scene is set up are just some of the best cases of authentic representation I’ve seen.   It just makes my heart swells from the first time I watched it to whenever I think about that scene.  

It was never once verbally stated that Desi was making phở. The scene wasn’t lip service representation. It was not “Oh LoOk! LoOk at our Vietnamese character cooking a well-known Vietnamese meal!”  Instead, it was Desi was making soup and the soup she happened to make was phở if the audience were familiar enough with the meal to recognize the typical garnishes for it. The subtlety and intimacy of that representation! 💕💕  THE AUTHENTICITY!  There was also no qualifier to it either.  Desi didn’t say was she was making Vietnamese soup or anything. She was just making soup; no qualifier needed. 💕💕

These kind of genuine representations are so deeply appreciated, especially by those of us who hunt for any representation of ourselves in the media we consume.  Whether they were already in the script or added with Levy’s influence, these little references mean so much.
