Fanfic - Watching The Snow - 1/1
Summary: During a power outage the West-Allen family watch the snow fall in candlelight.
Prompt: One word prompt is ‘Candles‘ from @westallenhugs
Rating: PG
Word Count: 476
One minute Barry and Iris were cuddling on the couch watching a Christmas movie the next everything had been plunged into complete darkness.
The relaxed and cozy feeling of their evening quickly dissipated as they both sprung into action.
“I’ll check on Nora,” Iris said of their one year old currently tucked away in her crib. “I’ll then coordinate with the rest of the team.”
“I’ll do a sweep of the city,” Barry said as he glanced out the windows of their condo to see the rest of the city had been covered in darkness. “Make sure its not a meta-human isn’t causing mischief.”
Barry quickly pressed a kiss to his wife’s lips before speeding off onto the cold streets of Central City.
After an hour of doing several sweeps of the city Barry quickly determined the power outage had been caused by an issue at the power plant. A problem which the workers at the plant assured the Flash would be fixed soon. Now with Elongated Man and Frost were patrolling the streets coordinated by Cisco at Star Labs he felt confident heading back home to check on his family.
Barry entered the condo entrance but instead of blackness he was greeted by a warm orange glow.
Slowly Barry walked further in till he reached the living room. There he saw the room had been filled with candles. Their tiny orange flames had combined to create a warm light that pushed back the darkness. There in the middle of it stood Iris holding baby Nora to her chest as they looked out the window together to watch the falling snow.
Barry paused a moment to watch them both, loving how they looked bathed in the soft light of the candles. Barry thought about saying something cheesy on how his girls were his light in the darkness of the world. But he kept it to himself, he had a feeling they already knew how he felt.
Instead Barry walked over to stand behind his family. He wrapped an arm around Iris’s shoulders to pull her back into him.
“Hey you,” Iris smiled as she glanced up at her husband. “Hows it looking out there?”
“Not too bad actually,” Barry said as she pressed a kiss to the top of her head.
He then turned his attention to a babbling Nora’s whose small hands were reaching out to him. Looking at both his girls Barry felt warmer as he gazed at their matching soft brown depths of their eyes.
“We’re watching the snow,” Iris said in a hushed voice. “Can you stay for a bit?”
“Yeah I think I will,” Barry said as his arms curled around his family tighter.
The three of them stood wrapped up in each other, bathed on candlelight, watching the snow fall over a quiet city.
