Blog #3: Algorithm Bias
Let's talk about algorithm bias! First, what is it? Algorithm Bias can be described as biases in an algorithm or program that contributes to errors that lead to an unfair outcome. (Wetzel 2024). An example of algorithm bias would be if someone programed an hiring process to only hire white males. This would be an unfair outcome.
Where do these biases come from? These biases can stem from the programmers themselves. Programed AI or any process is only as smart as the program itself. So, if a programmer made it to where only Asians are hired, that would be an example of an algorithm bias.
This can lead to a large problem as a lot of AI algorithms gain their information from the internet (Sweeney 2022). While some of this information may be truthful or accurate, some of the information may contain biases and misinformation.

Blog #2 Generative AI and AI components
Generative AI is a form of artificial intelligence that consumes information via the internet or provided information to create something new. Currently there are not many government regulations (White et al 2024) on AI as a whole which can lead to some grey areas when it comes to commercial use of AI. However there is a video by Matt Wolfe on recent regulations of AI.
There is also argument over if AI generated art should be protected by copyright. As of right now, AI created art work is not protected by copyright without significant human contribution as AI is not seen as a creator legally. This can become an issue when it comes to generating similar artwork that has been previously copyrighted.
Read more about copyright law and AI here! (Glover 2023).

BLOG #1 Cyber-bulling and Negative effects of Social Media
Hi! This is my first blog post!
So today I present this a Dr. Phil recap (Pfizer 2020) of teen girl's experience to cyber bulling from her own friends. The video brings to light how quick and silent cyber bulling can be. Her own friends were telling calling her names and telling very hurtful things.
What is cyber bullying? Well, cyber bullying is bullying on the internet. The bullying can include harassment, threats, or even posting pictures of other people in hopes of embarrassing them. While these are a few examples, cyber bulling is not limited to those. Any form of harm towards another person can be classified as cyber bulling.
There are several platforms of social media such as YouTube, Facebook, or reddit. A recent study done by the mayo clinic in 2022 shows that 35% of teenagers from 13-17 have used a social media platform(s) more than 7 times a day (Mayo 2024). With large amounts of access to social media, it is important to follow the golden rule of 'treat everyone how you want to be treated'. Just because it is said online, does not make it anonymous.
