10 Horror Movies That Were Really Cursed

I was 13 when the original first came out in 1982.  It was my favorite film and I was totally addicted (my first of this kind, I think).  I saw it at least 20 times.  I was much more drawn to it than the other big movie of that summer, “E.T.”  Also, as the years went on, this film and its sequels seemed to be under a curse as four cast members died in the following years.

Theatre for One
Tumblr media
After reading Alison Meier article about “Theatre for One” in HyperAllergic this morning,  I had a couple of free hours and, rather impulsively,  ventured to check it out for myself.
After waiting in line for about an hour, I was led to my seat inside the large roadbox which contained “Theatre for One.”  The play I saw was called "#Five.” Written by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Lynn Nottage and performed by Keith Randolph Smith.
This was a very intense and chilling 5 minute play with just me & him staring into each other eyes as he told me his story which was related to the theme, “I am not the stranger you think I am.” Excellent and well crafted performance.  Even in 5 minutes, writer, director, and performer were able to create a very poignant emotional arc.  The theme resonated with me for hours after I left as I considered how I would react if this had been a real situation.
Waited in line for about an hour. Worth it for this kind of individual and rare theatrical experience. Certainly worth it to try to find more pockets of time to see some of the other plays over the course of next week.
It’s currently in Brookfield Place thru Sunday, May 24th,  and starting on Wednesday, May 27th, it will be in Zuccotti Park.
Go if you can.

In the mobile black box of Theatre for One, there is only one audience member for each of the seven rotating plays. The four-by-eight space is sparsely staged, with a built-in red velvet seat on one side and a folding chair for the performer on the other, and a wall that opens and closes between, revealing the viewer and actor to each other.

Pizza Queen Week!
This week I’ll spend pretty much every day at a diner booth installation at One New York Plaza prepping for and performing the world premiere of my first solo, ever: Third Rail Projects’ Pizza Queen, directed by Tom Pearson. It’s 17 minutes of dance and song, and one of three parts of Genuine Plastic Reliquaries.
FREE performances on Pizza Queen are on Thursday 4/23 and Friday 4/24, at noon and 1pm. Then, on Saturday 4/25, the culminating performance of all three movements of Genuine Plastic Reliquaries - Yolk, Sign of the Times, and Pizza Queen at 3pm.
Click here for the full schedule!
Also - we were in this past Saturday’s New York Times thanks to a sweet review by Ben Brantley!

The app itself, though in many ways similar to many data-mining self help products on the market, isn’t out to make money, or even to make you feel good. The real goal of Blast Theory’s project is to show how seductive and insidious tech can be even when it’s presented with a human face. Users...

Murder.  Mystery.  Madness. Mayhem.  Mesmerizing.
Huge kudos to the entire creative team (including Glenn Ricci aka Delirium Dog) and the amazing cast.  I LOVED IT! This was an excellent experience and I was completely blown away.  A fascinating tension filled two hour (single loop) journey from start to finish.  Great character development, emotional arcs, and resolve.  Poe would be proud.
I wish I was able to return and fall under its spell again.
You will wish to return.
You will.

Posting on “Sleep No More” tag because it seems like this app interests all of us.  This has the feeling of a very intimate Punchdrunk experience that you can have in your own home.
I can't wait to meet Karen!!  I could certainly use some life coaching.
Here’s a link to a NY Times article about it (her).  Available on April 15th.
