I redid my background image!

Recently, I was gifted a drawing tablet, and I've been learning how to use it. It began with a different program, and me tracing older drawings (a bit messy at first), but once I got the hang of it, I moved on to a different program. I dabbled in shading, but I can't say I was successful.

Overall, I'm happy with the progress I've made so far. Expect more digital art in the future!

Character Spotlight: Lady Tiki

Lady Tiki is leader of the Chimera, a race of creatures that are made up of different animal hybrids. While she looks resembles the original Chimera more, her subjects may look wildly different from her. The Chimera pride in being different and celebrate their diversity.

She has an advisor, who I have not named yet. Is he a Chimera? None of the residents know where he comes from, but he seems like he may steer Lady Tiki wrong...

Marcus: *calms down, sips milk* How dare you put that filth into my mouth!? No more spiciness for me!

Albatross: I was not expecting that reaction, but it was the funniest thing!

Flavia: I...guess I like mild more? I can at least taste it.

Albatross: *Groans* Why do I have to be the only spice fanatic?

Fun fact: birds have a very high spice tolerance!

Character spotlight: Marcus

Marcus is an anomaly: he is an alicorn in a world where unicorns and pegasi are in a bitter rivalry and cannot love one another. As a result of a forbidden love, his father gives him up to be adopted by two griffin mothers.

Marcus grew up in the secluded, harsh, winter-ridden Land of Griffin. With the company of his mothers, he amassed many hobbies and became book smart in various topics. They became a cozy, tight-nit family.

But one day, as he was growing older, he noticed his Moms kept leaving for business trips and job opportunities. Both insisted that he stayed at home, telling him the outside world is cruel and unforgiving. 

As time passes, Marcus developed cabin fever and longed to leave. Frustrated after both left for yet another long stretch of time, he decides to abandon his home in search of his origins and his craving for adventure. 

Will he regret that decision?

Character spotlight: Flavia

Flavia was born to noble class phoenix, one a politician and the other a lawyer. Growing up, she would always hear the latest gossip and drama due to her parents' backgrounds and social circles. 

Since she is a noble, Flavia is expected to enter into the political world just like them and her older sister, Marigold. Or, at least get a career befitting a phoenix of her station. Despite the pressure, Flavia has always been seen as someone who is unfocused and childish. She has a fascination for magic, something only told in children's bedtime stories. Apparently, magic does not exist anymore, and she needs to stop playing pretend and grow up.

And so, she tries to put away her interests to try to appease her parents' wishes...but it only led to burnout. The black plumage on her feathers are a result of working hard and being unhappy.

She longs to be in a world where she can be her whimsical self, and to reignite her passions; to find magic where there is none.

Character spotlight: Albatross

Albatross doesn't remember anything before they woke up, head pounding, in their Mom's cave. They believe anything their Mom said about their past, as they try to navigate the etiquette and lifestyle of dragonkind.

Albatross doesn't remember having wings. In fact, there are no wings in sight. Just different Throated dragons: Ruby and Sapphire ones. Albatross is a Ruby Throat, as depicted by their red "beard". However, as time passes, Albatross realizes they dislike this form, and being a Sapphire is not ideal either.

Because of society's pressure, they become both bitter and an outcast. Eventually, they learn the truth of who they once were, and what happened to winged dragons. Narrowly escaping, they decide to leave The Land of Dragons.

Will they get to return to their old winged form?

This is my oldest drawing of the main character, Albatross, drawn in August of 2023. At the time, they didn't even have a name.

Their design has changed since then, but the fact that there are two forms has not. In this world, dragons go through three stages: fledgling (a baby stage), winged (a form like dragons we know and recognize), and then finally, throated (a form that loses its wings but can reproduce and possesses other skills).

Albatross is both of these, above is a draft of their winged form, while below is a draft of their throated form. Later, I will post a more updated version of both of these designs with more information on the character themself.

Welcome!

I am using this blog to develop my characters and story, "Albatross and the Rekindler". The long term goal is to slowly, yet surely, create a pitch bible.

I think there's no better way to start this blog than to use an old placeholder for a title cover. I drew this back in November 2024. Sorry for the blur. The character designs have changed some since.

What is Albatross and the whatsit?

Rekindler! This is a fantasy adventure story where three characters must stop a war by recovering the McGuffin, the Rekindler. Meanwhile, they have personal demons to tackle, and help others throughout their world.
