He considered the merits of entering a discussion on the utility and morality of alcohol and violence respectively (and the unfortunate ways the two vices intersected), but decided it wasn't worth it to mire Rose in yet another of his rambles. Albus knew he tended to go off on tangents, and as sweet as Rose was, he hated talking to a bored audience. Taking her hand, he pulled himself to his feet lightly. "Scorpious is always skulking around somewhere," Albus pointed out, grinning. "I'm sure you miss him, but we bump into each other far too often at the Ministry. I'm honestly starting to worry."
They had found one another in their Hogwarts years - those days were gilded in his memory, the three of them sharing afternoons and complaints about homework by the Great Lake. These days, the times all three of them managed to meet were few and far between. "Wood - from Puddlemere? That one you like?" Albus smirked down at her. The room was almost empty; he made his way to the door, making sure Rose was behind him. "No offence meant, Rosie, but I'm concerned about the very real possibility that you just hallucinated a meeting with Bartholomew Wood. Kicked a rock at him, no less."
Giving her a playful nudge as they left the hall, Albus rummaged in his pockets for some spare Sickles for the bar. "You're certain it was him, though?" Then he loosed a loud laugh, nearly drowned out by the crowd moving about the festival. "Merlin, you're going to get yourself sued or something. Your mum'll tell me off for not keeping you out of trouble."

"I think getting exponentially intoxicated is the better idea. Violence is never the answer as I always say! And if you can’t seem to find it, the answer that is, then alcohol is a good substitute!" Rose chirped, shooting up from her place on the chair and holding out a hand for Albus to take. Rose always liked to think of Albus as her other half. She took pride in the fact that she had found her person at such a young age. Albus was exactly that. His happiness was something she wanted more than anything, even more than her own. He was her knight in shining armour and she strived to be the same for him. At times, she couldn’t help but be possessive over him. Like she didn’t want to share him with the world.
"Have you seen anyone we might know yet, Al? I know Scorp’s somewhere here, but I have yet to bump into him." Rose said, tucking a stray curl behind her ear. She paused for a while before gasping dramatically. "Oh oh oh! And you’ll never guess what happened! I kicked a rock at Barthy Wood! What are the odds, right? It just came soaring towards him! I nearly took his eye out, but it’s quite a good thing that I didn’t! Huh, who would’ve thought I had so much… so much umf in me?” Rose gushed in excitement.
"He was very… well, he didn’t seem all that angry with me… And it was clearly an accident." She explained.

Oh, Rose. He dropped into the chair next to hers, looking every few moments at the dispersing crowd in case anyone had an actual question. He doubted it; usually, Mr. Dagwood said, people came up to ask where the nearest loo was. "I'm not surprised," Albus said, shrugging. "Service in this place is awful. Same thing happened to me because the bar ran out of Butterbeer. It's Butterbeer, for Merlin's sake! Sheer unprofessionalism."
Leaning back in his seat, he grinned at his friend. He hadn't been surprised to see her here, not in the least; she was always there at all his firsts - first tooth, first fight, first year, first date. That was the nice thing about growing up with someone; Rose was a constant, there even for the dull talks that Lily and James couldn't be arsed to sit through. "Mr. Speaker is honoured you think so, even though you missed all the good bits," he said. "Well, I'm about done. Shall we go back to the store? I'll give the clerk a piece of my mind." He elbowed Rose gently, smiling. "Or, we get Firewhiskey to celebrate. Who needs Butterbeer? I'll buy a round for the both of us."

It was inexplicable, to Albus - the thought struck him again as he looked at her - this fondness for Rose that encouraged him to indulge her. He wasn't as kind to his siblings, as much as he loved them; but he was tender with Rose, always. She deserved it, and he was half-waiting for the day she would fall in love so he could tell her partner break your heart and I'll kill you. And it was equally inexplicable that she protected him as much as it worked the other way around.

"I just wanted to come up and tell you how absolutely amazing I thought that was Mr. Speaker." Rose chirped as she bounced cheerfully in front of her cousin. She picked up a flyer before moving around him only to plop herself down on a nearby chair. "I’m sorry I missed it. I got into a bit of a mix up with a store clerk. He threw me out, could you believe it? The absolute nerve of some people! I was patronising his business and this is how he thanks me? Well it’s hiss loss I tell you!” Rose said with a huff before blowing a stray curl away from her face. She pouted for a while before waving it off and looking up at her cousin with a smile.
"But I’m over it now! No use in dwelling! Are you done here, Al?" She said before her eyes widened even more so in excitement before her smile faltered slightly.
"Oh yes, that’s right. Another hour, you said?" She bit her lip in slight disappointment. It seems that most of her family was busy. Everyone had jobs they needed to attend to and places they needed to be. Her? Well as a simple botanist, Rose really didn’t have much use in a Quidditch festival (other than her already occupied role as a cheerleader, avid fangirl and familial support team).

The grin that flashed on his face was instinctive, recognition clenching in his gut - sometimes Scorpious' presence unnerved him as much as it pleased him. Albus imagined him in the audience, watching his every move with sharp blue eyes, and on hindsight all the little slip-ups stood out even more; the stumbling over a Gobbledegook word which his friend wouldn't even have understood, let alone noticed, but somehow he thought Scorpious knew everything. Could, perhaps, have read it in his expression.
Still he played along, maintaining a professional stance, hands clasped behind his back. "Well, Mr. Malfoy, perhaps a goblin-sized broom would suit you well." Albus gave Scorpious a once-over, as if sizing him up. "Make that exactly. A perfect fit for your, hm, petite stature." The moment 'hook' left his lips, however, Albus conducted the difficult operation of simultaneously stifling his laughter and clapping a hand over Scorpious' mouth. "No hook jokes!" he hissed, still grinning. "Not in goblin vicinity, you idiot."
He drew back in a moment, when nearby members of the audience were out of earshot. "You're going to get me fired, I swear." And then again, the swoop of panic and doubt, like Albus was afraid it was true; he shoved the thought away. "What are you doing here? Thought you hated these Ministry establishment things, I imagine you get plenty of them at work."

Bursting into applause would be far too unseemly, yet Scorpius’ hands twitched all the same. How fascinating the entire talk had been — and how proud he was for his oldest friend! Who didn’t know he was technically here. Not yet, at least. Sharply getting to his feet, Scorpius kept his eyes on the familiar figure at the front of the room. As he sailed down the steps, various murmurs of approval met his ears; and with each glimpsed smile, Scorpius felt his heart swell a little more.
Managing to dodge Albus’ gaze until the last possible moment, he came into eyesight just in time. Scorpius wasn’t one for overt shows of affection, but this time he grinned widely, coming to a shy stop.
"You could," he teased, leaning one elbow on the back of the lectern, all easy grace. "I’d very much like to procure a goblin-sized broom. Think you could… hook me up? By any chance?"

Mr. Dagwood had given Albus some responsibility - for the first time! - with this presentation, and he intended to do it perfectly. Thus far proceedings had been smooth; the audience at the festival was quiet but eager, a mix of Goblins and wizarding peoples, and certainly not as boisterous as those attending the presentation on corruption scandals off the pitch. Albus was rather enjoying the spotlight.
"And that is the unfortunate reason why Quidditch matches have yet to be available for Goblin participation," he finished, following each statement with a Gobbledegook translation. He beamed at the room, making eye contact with his audience as any professional speaker would. "Here's hoping that Goblin-sized brooms of a much higher safety standard will soon be accessible to all. Thank you for your attention - again, I'm Albus Potter from the Department of International Magical Cooperation. I'll be here for another hour or so if you've any urgent questions! If not, do owl us with your feedback."
His final words set a murmur off in the small crowd as they stood and began shuffling to the exits. "Enjoy the festival!" Albus called. Someone approached from the side; Albus turned to them with a confident smile, still riding off the triumph of his first successful seminar. "Yes, can I help you?"
