#irishwhiskey #glendalough #singlemalt #alkobaron #alcobaron2020 #alcobaronofficial Ireland’s Glendalough Distillery has launched three new whiskeys in the US, including a 17-year-old single malt finished in Japanese mizunara oak casks. The 17-year-old Glendalough single malt finished in mizunara oak casks is limited to 6,000 bottles Glendalough has released a pot still whiskey aged in Bourbon and finished in virgin Irish oak, a 17-year-old single malt aged in Bourbon casks and mizunara oak and a 25-year-old single malt aged in Bourbon and oloroso Sherry barrels. The Glendalough 17 Year Old has spent twice as long in the Japanese mizunara oak cask as its 13-year-old predecessor. After 15 years in a first-fill Bourbon cask, the whiskey is said to have “vibrant, citrus notes” over “long, sweet honey and vanilla”. The initial ageing provides the expression with hints of “wood spices, incenses and earthiness”. Glendalough Distillery said it was risky to finish the liquid in “notoriously leaky and expensive” Japanese oak, but the extra two years “were worth it”. Limited to 6,000 bottles, with the US receiving 3,000 of these, Glendalough 17 Year Old is priced at US$299. https://www.instagram.com/p/B8RO6knnoJx/?igshid=1qijfrxlh0rq9

#courvoisieravantgarde #courvoisierbourboncask #courvoisier #alkobaron #alcobaron2020 #alcobaronofficial Beam Suntory-owned Courvoisier has kicked off its new Avant-Garde series with a Bourbon cask-finished Cognac. Courvoisier Avant-Garde Bourbon Finish is the first expression in the new Avant-Garde range The limited edition Courvoisier Avant-Garde Bourbon Finish is a VSOP expression finished in Kentucky Bourbon casks. The extra ageing is said to give the Cognac an “elegant and velvety finish with tasting notes of vanilla, honey and sweet marmalade”. On the palate, it is described as having notes of “soft smoky leather and sweet orange”. The 40% ABV Cognac was created by Courvoisier’s master blender, Patrice Pinet, and master distiller Benoît Desutter. “We’re thrilled to release Avant-Garde Bourbon Cask Edition, a first-of-its-kind expression for the House of Courvoisier,” said Stephanie Kang, senior marketing director for Courvoisier. “With the help of our local artisans and winegrowers in our hometown of Jarnac, we were able to develop an innovation that is sure to appeal to Cognac and Bourbon drinkers alike.” Courvoisier Avant-Garde Bourbon Finish is available exclusively in the US for a limited time, priced at US$39.99 per 750ml. In September 2017, Courvoisier moved into cask finishing with the launch of an expression finished in Sherry casks. Last month, Pinet said the Cognac house has enough stock to meet demand after it was affected by poor weather conditions in 2017 and 2019. https://www.instagram.com/p/B8Qry-tHrDs/?igshid=1scz8mz7n3dkw

#alkobaron #alcobaronofficial #alcobaron2020 #ardbegparpetuum #singlemalt #scotchwhisky TASTING NOTES Tasting Notes by The Whisky Exchange NOSE Earthy peat and warm leather with old roof slates and gentle medicinal touches. PALATE Fresh bandages and TCP followed by coffee lime peel, orange peel, spice and charcoal. FINISH Warming, with lime peel, slate and ash. Tasting notes by Billy A NOSE Sweet earthy peat and warm leather to start. Mossy green notes develop along with a mineral dryness – old roof slates. Medicinal hints and traditional whisky warehouses sit behind that, with bung cloth, iodine and sea spray. PALATE Big medicinal hit to start, with fresh bandages joined by TCP. Ground coffee and sharp green leaves are joined by lime peel, orange peel and charcoal. Some spice develops, with soft nutmeg backed up by a cinnamon tingle. FINISH Warming finish, with lime peel, slate and ash. Tasting Notes by Ed B NOSE Sweet ham and bananas, soft smoke with a hint of mintiness. Overall, a smoky caress rather than a punch. PALATE Ripe-fruit sweetness with a delicate carbonic kiss. Worryingly drinkable and approachable. FINISH Not overly complicated, just a smothering dry finish. Lingers on the tongue. https://www.instagram.com/p/B7tnfwCHqc0/?igshid=1s4gdvew6vw82

#alkobaron #alcobaronofficial #alcobaron2020 #cadenheads #ardbegdistillery Cadenhead’s Ardbeg 1975 Color: golden toffee. On the nose: beautifully layered peat – a marked contrast to the Islay peats of today. Here, there is harmony, balance and depth. Autumnal and peppery with a rich toffee, some honey and chocolate. There’s a sweet sooty element alongside brown sugar and a resinous quality. With liquorice and blackcurrant jam, some lemon freshness cuts through the pencil shavings and dried fruits. Camphor, diluted orange and a gentle smoke appear. In the mouth: now the peat steps up a notch, and there’s a drying, chalky, blackboard dynamic at play alongside the more familiar melodies of black pepper, sea salt and autumnal foliage. Bitter dark chocolate, liquorice, stewed black coffee and a dark brown sugar midway emerge. An ashy finish comes with fudge, mace and aniseed. Conclusions Quite a character at just 15 years of age. Plenty of punch, but also a wonderful poise way beyond its maturity. This has certainly opened up since my tasting in Rotterdam and has benefited from time; it feels more charismatic and alive. I doubt I’ll have the pleasure of its company again, but that’s what whisky is all about: forging ahead with new discoveries and memorising those moments where things fell into place … along with that Sunday morning Irn Bru chaser. https://www.instagram.com/p/B7TTSBanJ3G/?igshid=t8lkxh9dez3d

#blindtiger #organicgin #alkobaron #alcobaronofficial #alcobaron2020 Country of origin: Australia Alcohol by Volume (ABV): 42.7% In the 1920s Prohibition Era, a Blind Tiger was an establishment known to illegally sell alcohol, with a focus on celebrating the exciting flavour and taste of liquor cocktails, many of which were Gin based. Blind Tiger Organic Gin is distilled in small batches and is a complex, yet elegant and aromatic gin made from the finest certified organic botanicals. Blind Tiger Organic Gin is an exotic blend of juniper berries, coriander, angelica root and summer savoury. Juniper Berry is the core botanical of many Gins and in Blind Tiger provides a backbone of fresh spring forest and citrus notes. Coriander has been selected as it enhances the citrus characters of the juniper and imparts a subtle earthy character whilst the angelica root gives a delightfully aromatic and heady note of musk. Summer savoury completes the botanical mix and contributes a subtle mint like peppery character. The combination of these herbs creates a London Dry Gin that is a perfect mixer with Tonic or Soda and a great base for one of the hugely popular gin based cocktails. https://www.instagram.com/p/B61IBYcH3CS/?igshid=13j7voy2wwrgl

St. George Baller Bottling Note Baller Single Malt from St. George Spirits over in California has seen a wonderfully unique maturation. The whiskey is initially aged in used bourbon and French oak wine casks, and is filtered through maple charcoal. Following that, it's finished in casks that which previously held house-made umeshu, a Japanese-style plum liqueur that the folks at St. George made entirely from California-grown ume fruit. Baller is named for its popular Japanese-style Highball drinks, hence the label artwork, so definitely give it a go in the eponymous serve. Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt Nose: Fresh citrus, with grapefruit peel and some white grape wine-y notes in there too, apple skin and dried mango. Palate: Some damp oak and rich malty notes, supported by more mango, syrupy tropical fruit and sugared grapes. Finish: Gala apples and boiled apple sweeties too. #baller #singlemalt #stgeorge #alkobaron #alcobaronofficial https://www.instagram.com/p/B6qWehvnpW9/?igshid=c0hstavpdm0g

#loveedenmillgin #alkobaron #alcobaronofficial Love gin is one of many expressions from the home of the famous Golf tournament, and features exotic fruits in its botanicals. Price: ~ £23 (50cl) ABV: 42% Known Botanicals: Angelica Coriander Seed Elderberry Goji berry Hibiscus Marshmallow root Raspberry leaf Rhubarb root Rose petal Probably the most well known of the Eden Mill range, Love is described as a ‘pale pink’ gin (it’s very pale!), and sits alongside a core range including Original, Golf, Hop, and Oak, as well as a liqueur range, and a few experimental selections which have featured on shelves in Aldi (a few of which you’ll find in my list). For a while, the brand was instantly recognisable by its ceramic bottles, however more brands have begun to use such bottles, though I’m not aware of any others using swing-top stoppers! https://www.instagram.com/p/B6oD5kYHtQq/?igshid=1dshyx2laejk5
