Hey Alcorn Studio fans! My apologies for the lack of posts recently. Honestly, work and life have been pretty overwhelming lately and I just needed to step away for a bit. So… hopefully, you’ve had a chance to check out Kid Cosmic. For those who have, I really hope you enjoyed the show. For those who haven’t yet… hopefully this doesn’t spoil anything for ya. So these designs are some of the first I was asked to tackle during my time on the show. They’re from episode 4 “Kid Cosmic and the Local Heroes” where Rosa is battling a slew of different alien invaders. This was the typical design process for most assignments… we’d work up three or more rough ideas, pass them along for feedback, and refine from there. The roughs with the red notes were the initial pass and the tie down with the tones is the final approved model before it was passed along to the color stylists. The last image is the design template that we used, just in case anyone’s interested in that sort of thing. Thanks for taking a look and for sticking around while I’ve been away. A very Happy Thursday to ya everybody! Hope all’s well with you and your’s. This is arguably one of my favorite poses from my time on Kid (episode 3 “The Precognitive Cat”). Not necessarily because of how the rough turned out (though the board drawing itself was a fantastic one to build from), but because it really represented to me the reality of the story we were working on. Their was real heart behind these characters, real love and care for each other and, as a result, the potential for real loss and pain should things go wrong. So grateful to have been a small part of telling a story like this one. Here are two more poses from Episode 1 of Kid Cosmic.... the first is when Kid goes back to move Rosa out of the road before saying “Stay safe citizen!” The second is Jo’s reaction to seeing kid fly for the first time. Both got huge laughs at the neighborhood premier we had on Feb2 and it was super cool to experience that moment with friends and family for the first time. Happy Monday to ya! Here are some of my first episodic drawings of Kid, Jo, and Tuna Sandwich from “Kid Cosmic and the Rings of Power”. I’m not sure exactly how I ended up with the pose of Kid squishing Tuna’s cheeks, but it’s probably one of my favorite assignments from my time on the show. And who wouldn’t want a chance to draw a disgruntled Stuck Chuck, right!? Fun times! In all of these, the board drawings were really strong, so the challenge was more about not screwing that up as opposed to anything else.
