there was a great study a few years that went into the whole "ppl online are bigger jerks than irl cuz theres a virtual wall and no repercussions" and the researchers were expecting to see that be the case but it turns out that people who were really angry or argumentative online were also found to just be assholes in person and people who were pretty patient and nice online were found to be patient and nice in real person as well

and it just debunked that whole cynical idea that people will naturally be mean if theres no punishment for it

Yang ditakutkan sudah terjadi.

Dari ratusan juta insan Indonesia,

Dari ratusan ribu ahli di bidangnya,

Dari puluhan kali mockup yang terlaksana,

Kenapa saat wawancara hari H,

Saya harus dipertemukan dengan sosok inti dari kontribusi yang saya punya?

Izinkanlah saya bercerita, mengenai pengalaman yang tidak disangka-sangka.

Terdapat tiga nama alias disana, pak Asep, Pak Iyung, dan Mas Tjisaka.

Pertama, Pak Asep bertanya soal diri dan kontribusi, namun beliau tidak "mengerti", apalagi "membeli". Jadi saya harus menghabiskan waktu untuk menjelaskan konsep, masalah, dan solusi.

Tidak ada masalah sejauh ini. Keyakinan masih terpatri tegap di dalam hati.

Kedua, pak Iyung bertanya lebih mendalam mengenai kontribusi yang ingin saya jalani. Meskipun nada pertanyaannya terasa seperti menghakimi, namun saya tetap tegak berdiri.

Karena saya keras kepala, akhirnya dia mengungkapkan dirinya juga.

"Iya, saya sebenarnya core inti dari program kontribusi yang anda punya."

Deg. Pikiran langsung kabur. Hati langsung hancur.

Dengan wajah yang terus tersenyum, saya terus mendengar rangkaian pertanyaan yang seperti menelanjangi, demi memastikan kapabilitas dan visi untuk ibu pertiwi.

Hingga pada satu titik, saat aku sudah "melunak" dan "berefleksi", beliau menghabiskan dua puluh menit untuk menceramahi, entah agar membulatkan hati dan pikiranku lagi, atau berkata secara tidak langsung agar mencoba tahun depan lagi.

Saat pertanyaan terakhir oleh mas Tjisaka sebagai psikolog, pikiranku sudah tidak bulat lagi.

Tidak ada topeng, tidak ada kebohongan, tidak ada "jawaban aman".

I got nothing to lose. Aku jawab semuanya apa adanya, mulai dari organisasi kampus, momen paling jatuh, alasan kenapa bangkit, hingga pertanyaan personal mengenai orang tua dan pasangan.

Dan ternyata, beliau menghargai kejujuranku, dan mengapresiasi seluruh cerita hidup dan mimpi-mimpiku.

Bagai oase di tengah gurun, aku melihat seberkah cahaya, dari gelapnya proses tidak terduga yang sedang ada.

Siapapun yang membaca pesan ini.

Please, prepare for the best, but expect for the worst.

We won't know what type of obstacle that would come in the future.

It might be as small as sand, however, it might escalate into as big as the great wall of China.

Keep your composure.

use firefox instead of chrome or opera (both are made with chromium, which blocks functionality for ad-blockers. firefox isn't based on chromium).

use mega or proton drive instead of google drive.

get rid of bloatware

use libreoffice instead of microsoft office suite

use vetted sites on r/FREEMEDIAHECKYEAH for free movies, books, games, etc.

use trakt or letterboxd instead of imdb.

use storygraph instead of goodreads.

use darkpatterns to find mobile game with no ads or microtransactions

use ground news to read unbiased news and find blind spots in news stories.

use mediahuman or cobalt to download music, or support your favorite artists directly through bandcamp

make youtube bearable by using mtube, newpipe, or the unhook extension on chrome, firefox, or microsoft edge

use search for a cause or ecosia to support the environment instead of google

use thriftbooks to buy new or used books (they also have manga, textbooks, home goods, CDs, DVDs, and blurays)

use flashpoint to play archived online flash games

find books, movies, games, etc. on the internet archive! for starters, here's a bunch of David Attenborough documentaries and all of the Animorphs books

burn your music onto cds

use pdf24 (available online or as a desktop app) instead of adobe

use unroll.me to clean your email inboxes

use thunderbird, mailfence, countermail, edison mail, tuta, or proton mail instead of gmail

remove bloatware on windows PC, macOS, and iOS X

remove bloatware on samsung X

use pixelfed instead of instagram or meta

use NCH suite for free software like a file converter, image editor, video editors, pdf editor, etc.
